How do you count your pedometer readings?

Those of you who wear pedometers...I am curious....
When you log your exercise, do you try to count all of the steps it gives in some way? Or do you just use it a general gauge of your activity?
I am wearing a basic one and it is new to me. I am surprised it is as high as it is so far. Nothing grand...but still higher than I thought it'd be.
I figure I will still count as I have been all along, only counting the time of the exercise I do "in addition" to my normal day. I feel like it gives me a bit too much calorie credit anyway.
It just got me curious how others handle their pedometer readings.
