best things to order in a takeaway?
so my parents get a takeaway every Friday, which usually I am at work for. However, recently I have been given fewer shifts at work and have had to stay at home (I'm 18), and then have had a takeaway. They always get Indian. I tend to save up my calories for the evening meal but apparently the dishes can be 1000 or more! I…

cutting out sugar
I was reading an article today in the Times Style magazine, which said that sugar hidden in food is the reason why we are fatter than ever. Some health organisations even say that we should be eating as little as 6tsp a day for women, and 8tsp a day for men. Because of this, I'm considering cutting out all sugar in my…

Elliptical Machine
So I go to the gym most days The thing is, I'm not sure I trust the calories-burned thingy on the elliptical. Apparently, if I work out hard enough, I can burn around 850 calories in half an hour. This took time - I started burning around 200 in half an hour and yesterday hit the 850 mark. I have put my weight into the…

Eating at Work
I work in a Chinese restaurant part-time, and it's so difficult not to eat when it's around me all the time. I also get given food every night after work - fried rice and noodles - and if I don't take them, then my boss gets offended. (I have told her about my intended weight loss, and she just said she wanted to make sure…

Alcohol!
Hi there, so I have been following my plan really well and stuff, and ate perfectly yesterday. However, I went out with friends and caved and drank - and the thing is, I don't know how much I drank, because we were playing drinking games and things so we kept having top-ups. I am worried that since alcohol is so…

Birth Control and Weight Gain
Hi there, I'm sorry if this is the wrong place for this! I did look elsewhere, but couldn't see anywhere more suitable. I'm on Microgogyn 30 (combined pill), and have been for the past two months or so. It's caused an increase in appetite, which has led to weight gain - 5lb, so far - as well as seemingly weight gain…

calories burned at gym
hi there, so today I was at the gym and burned 103 cals on the exercise bike (speed range from 19.7 kmph to 26.2 kmph) and then I burned 304 cals on the cross trainer. When I input the time and what effort level, mfp tells me I burned far more than the machine at the gym told me. Any idea which one is correct? Many thanks

Step Ups
I'm wondering about the effectiveness of step-ups, It says that they burn around 15 cals per minute but although I do them at a rate of one a second, I don't get exerted, even when doing them for an hour. I step up onto a platform which is mid-calf - is this too low? Thanks

You'll weigh ___lb in five weeks
So, I've been on here for about four weeks. I expected some sort of reward? Like I have been burning off so much energy from exercise and eating a lot less, and it says every day that I would weigh 125lb in five weeks. Thing is, that's what it's been saying since day one. And if anything I Have gained weight. I don't get…

accuracy of MFP
so I walked around town for four and a half hours today, apparently that should have burned over 900 calories. I find this a little hard to believe - really? that many? and step ups - is it really 15 cals per minute? it seems way too high, like today I ate really really badly (junk food) but still am netting at about 300…

Basal Metabolic Rate
So apparently, my basal metabolic rate is around 1600 calories a day without any sort of effort to burn off. I usually do up to an hour of exercise a day; total energy loss from that equals probably around 1700 calories. However I have a very small appetite and struggle to eat enough - if I go into minus calories I don't…

chronic lung disease
hi there I have chronic lung disease (or had, years ago) and my ribcage is shaped such because of the circumstances of the birth, that it hurts to breathe deeply. It hurts all the time when I laugh or cry or just sigh, but it hurts in a different place when I do exercise The pain feels like a stitch, but in my lungs. as…

Any teenagers out there?
Okay, so I want to lose 10lb to start with. UGW is 120lb at 5'10. But it's so hard because I live at home and my parents always cook really unhealthy stuff, and expect me to eat it. They're not big on exercise either, and my mum still makes my lunch if I don't nag her not to. Does anyone have family who jeapordise or make…
