The 'I did it even though,.....'thread
So after a crap day I decided not to let it derail me and I still went for a 45 min walk (in a gorgeous spot!) even though I was pissed off at the world. I also ate all the healthy food I took to work even though I wasn't hungry, because I"d logged and planned for it. What have you achieved today even though....?

who else isn't too worried about 'the rules'?
I stay within calories and try and average a 300 calorie workout each day. That's IT. I don't worry about all the nitty grittys, I don't worry about the 'should's' and I don't really get too worked up if the scales do idiotic things. I feel amazing, fitter, healthier, happier and 9 kg lighter since boxing day. Who else out…

NSV & SV already today, and I've only been awake 20 mins!

interesting...formula for thyroid patient weight loss
http://thyroid.about.com/cs/dietweightloss/a/eatingenough.htm I found this fascinating.... If your thyroid is underactive then they are saying to lose weight it's weight in kg x 25 - 200 (to account for our crap metabolisms)... to maintain, weight in kg x 30 - 200. Their calculations put me on very close to TDEE and I'm…

weight loss going in waves - anyone else?
hard to explain... but for some reason i measure at a new low most saturdays, then go up a couple kg in the early week and drop down again to a new low on the following saturday. Is this kinda normal?

Netball umpiring....what do I log it as?
AS part of my teaching programme I run a netball skills workshop for teens, and in the winter months I umpire matches as well. I'm logging the workshops as 'coaching' and only giving myself credit for half the time to allow for observation periods, but what on earth do I log umpiring as? Essentially its 4 x 10 min…

Interesting visual: what does 200 calories look like?

having a major rantypants...
..about the 'you're doing it totally wrong, do it my way' brigade.... if someone is eating a reasonable amount, excercising, losing weight, not hungry, seeing positive changes both in NSV AND SV, happy and generally being successful...... then do NOT stick your oar in and tell them they are doing it wrong. Happened to me…

activity level fluctuations...
Hi all I set my activity level as light, because I'm a teacher and I've decided I can commit to workouts 3x a week for at least 30 mins as it said. At the moment I'm working out 6-7 times a week for cumulative totals of between 60-120 mins a day. I'm eating at BMR, and not eating back excercise calories. I seem to be…

team sports, solo sports, gym.... what gets you moving?
I'm a netball coach and former player (about to be a social player again this year), and I umpire teenage level netball, so that's def my scene... but I also like a walk or gym session.... HATE group fitness classes though! you?

the 'you don't look like you weigh that!' club - who's in?
I hear this so often and it's like ugh, really? Boobs. Muscles. Frame.... 97 kg and dropping in this pic, taken last night. Who else is affected by this and kinda just has to laugh about it?

goal sharing...
because once you share it, it's out there and not just in your head. What are your health/weight/body/fitness goals for the rest of Feb? Me - lose at least another 2kg to hit my first ten kg gone mark - make sure I keep hitting the excercise like I have been lately - get up to the 8 glasses a day of water consistently

Food allergies to things that are recommended
... like seafood. I keep hearing of the benefits of fish and seafood. I'm hideously allergic to anything from the ocean that has flesh (i can eat seaweed) ... but am I missing out on some manner of vitamin that i'm not getting elsewhere? I can't tolerate the seafood at all. One mouthful and I'm throwing up for three days.…

re-losing weight and rediscovering old faves
I lost about 25kg a few years ago and got really fit. Then I lost it, but i'm on a mission to get back there. I've rediscovered so many things i forgot, like: - i love muscle burn. It reminds me that I'm in control of this. - i actually DO like drinking water. - things like roasted seaweed, fruit, crackers with a little…

Italian Restaurants and counting calories...
... HI all So it's my birthday on Sat and I'm off with friends to an Italian place, but I'm a calorie geek atm and thinking about MFP-approved choices :P I know about the tomato and marsala based sauces being better calorifically and was eyeing up the amitriciana on their menu - but any other tips for getting through an…

'projected weight in 5 weeks' in food diary...
how do they work it out? Mines like 3kg more today than it was yesterday yet I ate similarly. Is it because I didn't work out today?

So how many calories does it burn off...
... when you ignore idiots and DON'T punch them in the face? Surely all that restraint has to count for something?

good question, bad question
just for fun! what is the question you love being asked ? what is the one you hate? me = love - 'have you lost weight? or 'can I see your ID? (I'm 32  ) hate - 'why are you single?'

calorie counting apps for teens 12-15
Hi all a friend is teaching his PE classes about health, nutrition etc and as we're a digital school (no textbooks, no worksheets etc) we were discussing using an app similar to this but suitable for younger learners with a simple interface but still containing detail on calories, macros etc. The kids would only be using…

your one MUST HAVE food....
whats the one food, treats aside, that you end up going back to time and time again for health benefits, low calories, whatever. I'm writing a shopping list and looking for ideas lol. Mine is probably hummus.

should you really eat ALL your calories from excercise back?
I'm newish to this, and since reading the message boards have realised that the recommended course of action seems to be to eat back the calories you burn. I don't often eat all my calories anyway but i've been trying to push it up closer to the mark lately following advice from here... the issue is that when I work out…

fave non food/excercise treats
I love to, if I'm bored, blah, whatever do appearance stuff - tan, hairdye (actually have a dye in atm thus thinking about this!) but my absolute fave thing to do in my me-time is nail art, and it always puts me in a good mood :) Cooking is up there too.

Konjac (which i know as konyaku) - sharing a tip!
Hi all From my time living in Japan I remembered this product, and i've found it in a Western style supermarket today and thought I'd share it. The product is called konjac http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konjac but I know it as konyaku and prefer it as ito-konyaku. It resembles noodles, can be used as noodles or as pasta,…
