Curious - Target carbs per day?
Simply because I am curious, I would love to hear how many carbs you target each day? There is a wide range of "Low carb" diets, or WOE, and I know not every kind fits every person. Just wondering how most people here handle their carb intake. FWIW, I tend to run in the 20-30 net carbs per day, and am still slowly losing…

Does prolonged high stress stall weight loss?
I have been going through a period of very high stress dealing with a bullying situation with one of kids (he's the victim, not the bully). While I have been very proud of myself for not hitting the white wine once during this whole ordeal, and not even giving in to the processed food addiction calling my name, I have not…

I can do this! Share your success stories.
I don't know how many of you are like me, but I've tried nearly every diet out there. Portion control, frequent small meals, low fat. eat less - exercise more!, eat more veggies, use a smaller plate, etc etc etc. On any one of those, I have NEVER lost more than 30 pounds before completely giving up. Those diets flip some…

Eggs are bad for you....... again
Eggs being a key food for many keto followers, makes me wonder if big pharma/food is fighting back at all fronts. Keto crotch and now this. **************************************************************************************************…

Memory loss (short term) and brain fog on keto
Is this a common thing? One of the (several) reasons that I chose to try Keto was it's possible way to help with cognitive problems. I find mine have steadily been getting worse. I start keto in Nov, had a rough December, and got back on track in January. I have noticed a marked increase in memory problems and not being…

Fasting group?
Does anyone here belong to a fasting group here on MFP? I can't seem to find one, and it seems like a common enough practice that it probably has a group (or a few!), but I am apparently too MFP challenged to find it. FWIW, I only found this and the keto group from links up on the main boards in response to…

Let's talk about....... fat
So I've seen several anecdotes on the LC forum here about people who's cholesterol has gone up, up, and away while on a LCHF/Keto diet for several years. Excess bacon and butter are ones that are frequently brought up. So what kinds of fats would not raise cholesterol? Is it the plant based oils from Avocados,…

Low carb WOE - and the family/kids?
Does anyone here have preteens and younger and feed them only what you eat? If so how did you get your kids (and spouse) to change from a high carb to low carb acceptance? Or is this a battle best not started? Haha. I have 2 active boys (age 6 & 11) and they pretty much survive on carb overload. However, they are very good…

Low-carb "bland" food suggestions for when ill?
Usually when I am sick (stomach illness or bad colds/flu), my appetite drops and I revert to a bland diet of rice, toast, and sometimes apples. Chicken broth goes down ok, but isn't very filling. Most other foods sound awful and/or won't stay down. Obviously on a low-carb diet, these are out. What do you all do when sick?…

Noob request - Comments/Suggestions on my daily diet?
While I am not a completely noob to MFP (this is my 5th? 6th? 7th? go at trying to lose weight) I have had moderate short term success with the "low fat" or "Portion control" calorie counting. However, they all failed due to one reason. I WAS PHYSICALLY HUNGRY ALL THE TIME. Finish a meal- still hungry. Go to bed maxed out…

Looking for low(er) carb friends
I'm doing low carb, which is going great so far! Looking for friends with a similar WOE, since we will all face the same struggles. Paleo, Keto, Atkins, Mediterranean, etc are all welcome!

Can you use step counts to determine activity level?
I looked online, and all I could really find is that sedentary people take 2K to 3K steps per day at most. Are there any rough estimates/guidelines for steps per day vs. MFP activity levels? I'm having trouble determining my activity level, and hoping this might help narrow it down??

Please help explain - weight loss after a big "oops" day
Can anyone explain to me how, after being stuck at the same weight for well over a week, and then having a major mess up day, I *LOSE* a pound the next morning after that? Have I accidentally put myself into starvation mode? During the time of no weight loss (had been losing steadily up to then), I scrupulously…

How many cal's do you leave at the end of the day?
So, is there a guideline for how many cal's you leave "unused" at the end of the day? Do you eat right up to your limit, or ???? So for instance, I just reset myself to sedentary (I'm not quite sedentary, and not quite light active, so trying to find my sweet spot). Set at 2 lbs loss/week as I am just getting started…

How to eval if a homemade recipe is "protein dense" enough?
Hi all, I am a mostly from scratch cook. Although not vegetarian, I seem to have a really hard time reaching my protein macro (or even coming close!). Especially b/c of DH's food allergy to beef and pork (tick born disease caused this). We eat mostly fish, poultry, and venison, and beans from time to time. So am trying…

First 4 weeks, and SO exhausted
So I'm a shade over 4 weeks into this, and the exhaustion is horrid. Is it common to feel really tired when starting a weight loss program?? For the last week and a half, I can barely make it through the day without needing a nap. A LONG nap. I am not sick (or preggo) at all, so I don't think there is something else going…

Q about bloating weight for the ladies
Ladies, how much (if any) do you gain from bloat during that TOM? Just curious if 6 pounds is normal or a bit high? I've been downing lots of water or dilute green tea, and I know that it will pass in a few days, but it's still no fun!

Looking for friends who garden, cook from scratch, etc
Looking for gardening and home cooking friends! Even if all you have is a pot of lettuce outside on your patio, friend me! Love talking about gardening, growing your own food, home cooking, etc. Which of course puts food front and center of everyday life, making temptation, well, difficult. If this sounds like you, friend…

Hydration during illness
Hi all, I can think of no better place to go for "experts" on hydration than here on MFP. Back story: Last Wednesday I came down with fever and chills (flu). Taking ibuprofen made me at least somewhat functional and I could even eat. Now it is Monday, and I think that as of last night the worst of the fever chills is over…

Why did you gain weight in the first place?
Ok, it makes sense to me that a major support factor to any sustainable weight loss is to first understand how we got here in the first place. Only then can we recognize what we need to change, fix, cure, or remove from our life in order to lose the weight and in the end KEEP IT OFF. Isn't that always the most frustrating…
