Maintaining weight for more than one year
My journey was not a quick one. It took more than three years to get the weight off - - - but it had taken a lifetime to get to that place. Now it has been more than a year since I reached my goal weight!! Be encouraged!! It IS possible!!

Losing weight has all kinds of benefits! For so many years I have had to stand back and watch others as they had grand adventures. This year, I was able to be the one experiencing it!!

Getting SO close - lots of pictures
My journey started in October of 2008. It has been a long time, but SO VERY worth it! Here's a walk down memory lane: This was taken in August of 2006 This is the closest to a true 'before' picture that I have. It was taken in the summer of 2008. February of 2009, I had lost about 60 pounds at this point This was in May of…

Truly peculiar NSV
Normally one wouldn't consider having an accident of any kind to be particularly 'successful', but let me attempt to explain. Wednesday morning I was checking out of a hotel where I had spent a week. The luggage cart was loaded to capacity with some VERY heavy items. I had taken the cart down to the lobby and was…

Unexpected NSV
Not being remembered may not always seem like a positive thing. However, when the reason is because you look so different than you used to look, it's a huge blessing! Recently, I saw a couple of girls that I had not seen in about a year. Last summer they had taken part in our children's outreach program and had been part…

BMI = 24.9 NORMAL!!!
It's been a very long journey, but I am getting very close to my final goal. Today was a huge milestone for me, though, as I reached a NORMAL body mass index for the first time in my adult life! Here is where I started - BMI of 65.1 And here is where I am today - BMI of 24.9

GOAL DAY - with pictures
My journey started in late 2008. You can read about it here, if you're interested: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Celebration-of-True-Freedom/230655243670046 Here's what I looked like when it began: And here is one that was taken today: My starting weight was 385 pounds. Well, that's the highest 'official' weight that I…

Unexpected NSV
This morning a friend of ours sent an email to my husband. It had attached to it a picture that had been taken of us a little over two years ago. The friend came to church and asked if he could take another picture with the same basic pose. (I had not seen the first picture, so my husband had to tell me how to pose.) Wow.…

Comparison pictures!
Same house, same tree - but three years later it's a whole new me!!

Almost there!
I started this journey in October of 2008. The first picture was taken on Valentine's Day 2009. At that point, I had lost about 60 pounds. The next picture was just taken a few days after Christmas 2011. I'm getting very close to my goal. For me, this has never been about how I look or what I can wear. There is SO MUCH…

Very Small Victory
Today I did something that I don't believe I have ever done before in my life. (Maybe when I was a little girl and too young to care, but I certainly haven't done this as an adult.) I walked around in a store wearing a pair of dress pants and a turtleneck that was TUCKED IN!! That may seem really silly to some of you, but…

Before and After Pictures
This is me in 2008 - I had actually already lost about 30 pounds in this picture! This picture was taken for Valentine's Day 2009 - about 60 pounds lost. I was down about 175 in this shot on Mother's Day of this year. Here I am standing in one leg of the pants I wore in February of 2008!! This is me about a month ago!

It can be done!
When I began this journey at a size 34W, I could barely even imagine being in "normal sizes" (meaning not having to go to the plus size section to buy my clothes). I would have been pretty ecstatic over an 18 and just about over the moon to be a 16. The goal that I thought was realistic was a 14, or possibly a 12. I was at…

It can be done!
I just want to share a word of encouragement to all of those who have expressed concern about the upcoming holiday. Yes, Thanksgiving is one of those days that tends to be overwhelming in the area of food. It's a glutton's delight!! However, it is possible to make some wise choices and have a thoroughly satisfying…

Exhilarating shopping day!!
I stopped in yesterday to a thrift store - they have been invaluable in being able to keep myself in clothes as the weight comes off. The bonus is that I am wearing better 'name brands' than I have ever been able to afford in the past! LOL Anyway, I had taken a few pair of pants in to the fitting room and there was still a…

Exciting to try on clothes these days!!
I have done a LOT of shopping in Goodwill over the past few months. With my continually changing sizes, it's about the only way I could afford to keep any kind of a wardrobe going. One of the little nuances about thrift store shopping is you pretty much have to just guess and go by the way it fits because sizes are not…

Closing in on my goal
I've been using My Fitness Pal for about four or five months now, but have been on my weight loss journey for almost three years. Finding this site has really helped me keep track of things when I am on the go. The phone app is great!! My starting weight was 385 pounds and, as of this morning, I have lost 212.6 pounds. I…
