Best time to use a foam roller?
I've been using the foam roller the day after my workouts and on rest days - there's an almost masochistic feeling to rolling out sore muscles, and it definitely helps. But I've also heard that it should be done post workout, too, to help prevent soreness in the first place. What are your thoughts?

HRM accuracy and walking
I'm feeling pretty confused right now. I've been doing high intensity cardio for a while (Spinning/RPM), Insanity, running, Plyo X etc. But I've noticed my legs are often sore and my knees are starting to feel it, so I wanted to add some lower intensity cardio, something low impact I could do every day without digging into…

Just done my first MAX workout....
When I started Insanity last week, I admit that I was a bit disappointed. In the last six months I've done a lot of running, spinning and I also finished a round of P90X. But after all the hype, I was a little disappointed in the Insanity workouts. They were tough, I suppose, but I wanted to feel like I did when I was 235…

Yoga/Pilates DVDs for the over 70s or infirm
My mom wants to keep fit more and has been doing aqua aerobics in a pool and very gentle circuit training in the gym, as well as low intensity riding on the exercise bike. However, she's 70, overweight, has arthritis in one knee and a knee replacement in the other and has a weak back. She's expressed an interest in doing…

Just signed up for Birmingham half marathon, next year
ie The Great Birmingham Run. I knew someone who did it this year and I've just started running again (currently walk/running 4 miles). Currently pretty slow, but looking forward to doing a new challenge!

How do YOU do Insanity?
I haven't started Insanity yet (okay, I admit it - it actually scares me a little), but how do YOU do it? Do you take rests when you need them, let the DVD play and join back in, or do you pause it while you rest then restart it when you're ready to go? I used the latter method when I was trying to get to grips with P90X's…

Any other workouts like Jillian Michaels' "Yoga Meltdown"?
I know most Yoga practitioners criticise this for "not being real Yoga", and I do try and do at least one session of "traditional" yoga a week to get a good stretch, build static strength and calm my mind. However, when I want to burn some calories but want something low impact I always reach for this - there's something…

One thing I don't understand about 30DS
I've recently bought 30DS and having had a quick scan through it it seems like a sound workout routine. I also like the weights/cardio/abs split of the workout design. One thing I don't understand though is why you are supposed to do it every day? When do your muscles get a chance to grow and recover? Has the reasoning…

How many rest days if you are cycling or running?
I come from a weights background where one of the first things you learn is that your muscles need to rest in order to recover and grow stronger from their efforts. I've recently started running and cycling and I was wondering how much rest you should have following these kinds of activities? I know some people run or…
