Sometimes I wish I didn't have to deal with diabetes...7/27=133, 7/28=121, 7/29=140 yesterday was 109 & today was 116. I go see doc tomorrow on my A1c results. I'm not optimistic.

just got my results from yesterday's blood work... a1c is 5.9 down from 6.1 in january! in april the dr took me off januvia my fasting bg was getting down to the 70s today he cut my metformin from 1000mg/twice a day to 500mg twice a day... i am happy.... amazing what losing 110 pounds in a year can do for you. I also lowered my carb intake from 50%+ of calories to under 35% but now i might have to strive for under 30%

That's great! A slide in A1c in the face of med reduction is real progress.

A couple thoughts, keep or toss...

    1. If you don't feel symptomatic in the 70s on a low-carb diet on metformin alone, is that really a concern? I mention this in case it seems like the drop in metformin results in higher BGs than you'd like.

This actually happened to me - I wound up going back to the higher dose of metformin in order to bring the post-meal BG down, even though I still run occasional, asymptomatic fasting BGs into the upper 50s and 60s. Since BG will tend to run lower when eating LC, and metformin doesn't tend to produce hypoglycemic episodes, my endocrinologist signed off. FYI, Phinney and Volek in their books Art & Science of Low Carbohydrate Living and ASLC Performance relate instances of athletes on LC diets having BG dip asymptomatically into the 40s...

    2. You might find that counting net carb grams is a sharper tool than percentages. For example, if on two days you happen to eat the same amount of carbs but eat extra butter one day only, then on a percentage scale, your carb count will differ. But using grams, you can make a direct comparison without the butter obscuring the similarity.

    Good luck!

actually my thinking gets fuzzy in the 70s... and i do count the carbs in grams i try for less than 150g total. often that leaves me around 100 fasting the next morning... 100 grams put me in the low 90's high 80's

I finally got to lower my Levemir insulin (long-acting) another 3 units yesterday (from 12 units, down to 9 units)--I've been stuck at 12 units/night for weeks. Now I'll see if it holds.

A1c went up less than I thought...6.1% from 6.0% in May. My numbers have been up so I expected it'd be higher. 8/2=127, 8/3=122, 8/4=116, 8/5=119 8/6=114 and today was 114 too. I'm still on 500 mg Metformin 1x per day in the evening.
