Karen & Cindy: I did a little research yesterday & PC Mag rated the Garmin VivoSmart the second best rated waterproof fitness tracker. After checking out the reviews on Amazon & a few other places online I think this is the unit I'll be getting. A lot of really positive reviews and 100% waterproof up to 5M. They even have it in in purple, which is my 2nd favorite color (no green ).0 -
Noodle~ mine is purple! It's my favorite color. You can buy different color bands so you can change them to match anything you are wearing! http://www.amazon.com/Sportsrain-Pieces-Replacement-Garmin-Vivofit/dp/B00P7UU4R2/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1422924848&sr=8-10&keywords=vivofit+replacement+bands&pebp=1422924878962&peasin=B00P7UU4R2 I think this set has a green one!0

Cindy the Vivofit sounds like what I would want. When the time comes I will have to check it out. Thanks.0

I am also going to get the vivo smart for my birthday if the Withings Pop is still not available Noodle. What I like about the Pop is that it really looks like a normal watch,
Which is the number 1 tracker? Is it the Fitbit?0 -
Alice: Nope, the #1 tracker (for swimmers) is the Basis Peak ($200!! ). The fitbit didn't rate at all because it's not waterproof, just "water resistant". I know a lot of people who have the fitbit & really like it, but it won't work for me, since most of my cardio is done in the pool. Either of the Garmin units will work, but I like the Vivosmart over the Vivofit because the smart has a heartrate monitor and can receive notifications from your phone ( which is cool, because I have a program that reminds me to get up from my desk every hour, but sometimes I miss it & forget because I don't want to be fiddling with my phone all day at work!0

I definitely love my Vivofit...the Vivosmart is new...I just did some research. While some of the new features are cool on the smart...I don't like that you have to charge it. I like the fit because the battery lasts a year or better and then can just be replaced. Because of all the "alerts" on the smart, my fear would be it's going to die out easily and I then would have to wait til I could charge it ...possibly missing out on tracking a workout. That is just me and what works for me...One of my previous trackers was the Polarloop and my daughters puppy chewed the charger...and you can't replace just the charger...plus that's how I learned that I don't like needing to charge it...it died at inconvenient times. lol
And the fact that it didn't track sleep...that is a feature I really like with the Vivo line...0 -
I also like the vivo smart because of its ability to track in the pool but also don't like that you have to charge it. It is still my preference if the pop doesn't get to South Africa.0

Found an article/blog called 50 Non-Food Rewards for Fitness and Weight Loss...thought I'd share the ideas....I loved this too...
My Healthy Choices Reward System
1 star for going to the gym
1 star for going to the gym three times in one week
1 star for walking at least 30 minutes
1 star for walking outside in temperatures below 20 or above 80
1 star for drinking at least six cups of water per day
2 stars for drinking eight or more cups of water per day
2 stars for staying below my daily carb range
1 star for meeting my daily calorie goal
2 stars for not weighing myself more than once a week
100 stars = I got a reward from my list
To mark my weight-loss progress, I bought an old-fashioned silver charm bracelet and added a new charm for every 10 pounds I lost. I chose charms with symbolic meaning to remind me of my journey and all my hard work. For example, because walking helped me drop the first 10 pounds, I chose a silver sneaker. When I got halfway to my goal weight, I chose a tiny pair of scissors.0 -
That's a great idea Cindy. I like the idea of the reminders of what it meant to you. Sounds fun.0
-
I love your reward system Cindy and the symbolism of the charm bracelet.
I can't remember on which post you mentioned cheat days? I've seen them mentioned before. What are they?
I try to eat foods that I normally eat but in different quantities than before because otherwise I know it won't be sustainable for me. My biggest challenge is still eating 3 meals a day and reaching my daily calorie goals. I have to consciously think about that.0 -
Oh and I rewarded myself this week with a pair of sneakers and 3 new dresses. Next week I have to go and get new training kit because mine is now too big0
-
aaliceinw~ Did you buy the dress from the Chinese lady? I hope so!!! I was sooo happy for you when I read that status!!! "Cheat days" are what some people give themselves once a week or periodically to "offset" this healthy "dieting" lifestyle...it's whatever you make of it for yourself really..some people take the day off from tracking and just INDULGE...other people track their indulgences but live with the consequences of their eating being off. If for example they had a big reunion, or celebration of some sort...they choose not to be mindful of their quantities for that day. What is a training kit?0

Sounds awesome Alice! I'm trying not to buy new clothes until I drop several sizes, but I'm definitely going to have to buy a new swimming suit, this one is starting to bag on me!
I love the charm bracelet idea Cindy! I'm not a big fan of wearing stuff on my wrist, I'm nervous about buying a fitness tracker for that reason, I'm still going to do it, but it's going to be difficult for me to tolerate. Maybe I'll do a charm necklace. Fossil has a really cool one that I've loved for years, if i win at bingo today I'm going to get my fitness tracker & the charm necklace for myself for my birthday!0 -
Alice - Way to go buying new clothes that fit! Yes workout clothes are needed. It would be awful if your knickers fell down while you were running
Noodle - Maybe practice wearing a cheap watch on you wrist. Good luck at bingo and win big
Cindy - The charm bracelet is a wonderful idea0 -
Cindy yes I did buy all three and they fit like a dream . A training kit is just training clothes - sweatpants, training top, training bra etc.
Noodle, if I wait till I drop more weight then Mysticlizard would be quite correct cos my knickers would be around my knees lol I have to keep hitching them up as it is already . Don't get out of the pool too fast either, because your cozzie might get left behind. Fitbit have clips and pendants that you can also wear Noodle! I'm not sure what they track though.
Mysticlizard, thank goodness I had nothing in my mouth, otherwise I would have sprayed my laptop looooo!
I hope you all had a wonderful Sunday.0 -
You ladies have some great rewards! I love clothes and jewelry
Not sure how you ladies feel about thrif or consignment stores? As we get smaller it could be worthwhile to check those out.0 -
That's what I want to be able to shop at thrift stores. Sure I will buy in regular size stores too but sometimes thrift stores have some cute clothes.0
-
We love thrift stores. That is where the girls buy their wardrobes. I can't wait to find a lot of clothes that will fit me too! Sunday is 1/2 price day.
edited for spelling0 -
Alice, lol, I've put some pins on the straps, it's not too bad yet, but another 10lbs & it's going to be a problem. I've seen the little fitbit zip, which is more like a traditional pedometer, which I like, but I really want one that can track my swimming. There's a new tracker that's supposed to be coming out soon that you can wear around your ankle & can track more activities than any other including bicycling, swimming & dancing. That would be cool!
MdwstQT, I love thrift stores. There is a really neat one in Milwaukee on the East Side called ReThreads that I love, but have yet to find 1 item of clothing I could buy beyond a scarf. My sister shops there all the time & I'm super jealous. She's found some seriously cool vintage clothes there.0 -

Noodle I'd love the purple one. tee hee. I'm not ready for one yet but when I do I will look at a few options. Thanks for the link and I will check that one out too.0 -
Aaliceinw~ So glad you got the dresses! You have certainly EARNED them!
Noodle~ I have never been one to wear anything on my wrist either but I have had no problem adjusting to my Vivofit. I hardly ever even remember it's there now. I feel terrible because hubby bought me a BEAUTIFUL emerald and diamond tennis bracelet once for an anniversary gift and it sits in my jewelry box...I think I've had it about 5 years and worn 2-3 times.
Liz~ I would love to be able to shop thrift stores...never do because I can never find things in my size!
MdwstQT~ They are great to shop at as you are losing because I know I don't want to spend too much on a size I will not be in for a long time lol!
Karen~ I think you will like the Vivosmart or fit...whichever you decide on!
Have a FAB_U_LOSS day my friends!!!

I rewarded myself for 20 lbs lost instead of waiting for my 25 lbs...
I will still get my hair done at 25 lbs!

Good for you Cindy! I bet you will tare it up with your new work out. I'll fess, I bought a yoga ball last week. I am one pound away from losing 50 but I couldn't wait. I ordered another set of dumbbells so I would have more options switching plates, so that will be my reward for 50.0
-
Good for you Cindy. You really deserve it!0
-
Yeah Liz! 50 lbs is a HUGE accomplishment! When get to 48 lbs I will be at one of those numbers I have never gotten past! So if I hit 50...I'm celebrating HUGE! I haven't figured out the actual reward but it will be a commemorative of some sort!!!
Thank you aalieinw!!! You guys have been a big part of my successes and it does NOT go unappreciated!!!!0 -
Mysticlizard: love yoga balls! The only way i can do crunches without feeling like I'm going to die! WTG on the 50lbs, btw! So happy for you!0
-
You go Liz and Cindy!0
-
Just for being on this awesome site and logging my food and giving it my best I'm already rewarding myself every month seeing a electrolysis. I'm having unwanted hair removed from my chin and between the eyes. After those sessions are done I may permanently have it removed from the private area. That would be amazing not up have to shave. Lol. Sorry if too much TMI.0
-
Karen, what a great body-positive self-care reward!!0
-
Thanks Barlovo. My face is a mess with bumps and redness a week after each procedure (and I have it done monthly) and I cannot go in the sun for 3 days but it's well worth it for me. The hair on my chin and neck, although I always kept it bleached, tweezed or waxed so no one would know it's there has always been a source of embarrassment for me so I'm very happy to get rid of it.0
