What is the bacon trying to tell me?

So...I'm hungry. Kind of all the time. Especially on days I work out. Basically I am considered sedentary, as I sit at a desk all day, I don't run around after children or anything like that. I do work out for at least 45 minutes 5-6 days a week though. Cardio and strength training. Some days all I can think about is food. What the hell am I doing wrong? Now, I don't crave sugary stuff or even regular carbish stuff (though I guess that's sugar too) I don't care what food, you could had me bologna and I would eat it.
From what I have read, this woe is supposed to help with the not feeling hungry thing. What am I doing wrong? The only time I don't feel so hungry is when I eat bacon. What is the bacon trying to tell me? That I need more fat? More sodium? Just that I like bacon?

Probably both on the fat and sodium bit. When I go walk or do squats or yesterday, do my marathon file moving session, I have to have a bit of fat and a cup of broth, at least since going full keto (I had to do this during my initial adjustment after starting LCHF). I would see if adding a little fat and salt to each meal helps. I had to cut out working out really of any kind since I shifted to keto until I adjust. I think I'm on day 10 now...so, it takes a few weeks to really adjust at first, then what, a couple months to become keto-exercise-adapted to burn fat instead of carbs, right? So I'm here for a bit...0

You're not eating enough. I took a quick peek at your diary, and you've consistently eaten several hundred calories below your target level, even on days you don't "earn extra" (like Thursday a week ago, where you didn't even break 1,100 calories).
In other words, the bacon is telling you that you need more fuel.
The idea that keto suppresses appetite is a bit of a misnomer. It does, to a degree, but it also makes it more accurate. When you feel hungry, odds are, you are actually hungry. Additionally, keto has a tendency to allow people to eat a couple extra hundred calories and still stay on track (it has in part to do with the energy required to burn fat for fuel instead of sugar).
Also, take another look at your goals and make sure they're reasonable. From the looks of your profile pictures, you appear to be a little on the taller side (5'7" or so, maybe? Judging by the kitchen pic), which means your base goal of 1,300 is probably a bit too low for you and you might have it set up for a 2lb a week loss. If that's the case, then you may want to back it off to 1 or 1.5lb per week. That gives you a little more wiggle room to eat to satiety and be less likely to be in the red according to MFP. If you decide to keep it the way it is, then try making sure you meet your calorie goal, or just eat to satiety and see where your numbers land.0 -
Thanks for the input. I had a feeling maybe I was really just hungry. I am 5'10" so yeah, a tall one. It's a little hard for me to wrap my head around eating more, as there was a time when I was lucky to let myself net 700 a day. Trying to undo the damage......0

Sending you an encouraging hug IAUC. It's hard to unlearn what we thought we knew, but I know you can do it.0

Haha, yep, I can relate. I'm 5'9" (and a half, depending on who's measuring). For comparison's sake, all of the calculators say I should lose a pound a week with 1900 calories, so you probably have quite a bit more you can eat than you currently do, and once your body is used to eating more (and not freaking out, because you're finally giving it enough), you should have enough wiggle room to eat to satiety and still lose weight.0 -
The bacon has spoken. I must heed it's instruction. All hail the wise and mighty bacon!!!0

Lol! Bacon satisfies me too! Won't get hungry for hours after eating it. Yes, all hail the mighty bacon! Bacon knows best! Thanks for the laugh! Have an awesome low carb day!0

What the bacon is trying to tell you: Eat me!
I highly recommend following its advice, as I'm pretty certain a great calamity will otherwise occur. It might *gasp* go away! The horror!0 -

Dragonwolf said everything perfectly.
Also, did I notice you take prednisone? If so, that is a reported side effect by lots of users.0 -

I feel your pain. Even when I eat more, I still get hungry when I work out. But for real, all jokes aside, bacon really does keep me satisfied for hours! It's the only thing that works! Too bad I can't make for breakfast during the week

Yes, the prednisone is part of the reason (coupled with lack of ability to exercise, depression over diagnosis and, well, just lack of self control) I gained 30 of the 60 pounds I am trying to lose. But I have been on it for three years now and it's a lower dosage so the side effects don't get me so much anymore. Unless changing the way I eat brought them round again.
Thank you all for being so supportive. I probably would have been ripped to shreds in the general forums for that thread. Oh, and glad I could make someone smile.
The Bacon is calling me. I must go!

I think I need to find better bacon. Mine never talks to me at all, it just sits there0

I posted a bacon recipe on the Keto last night:
Cream Cheese Stuffed Jalepeno's
Enjoy,
Dan the Man from Michigan
P.S. I'm making them again tonight!

If this diet was a radical change fro you it could have brought around side effects from medication again. I know some of the side effects of my meds have returned, but they're nothing that I can't deal with by adjusting the dose a bit or having some coconut oil(it calms cramps for me).0

Bacon is your friend. Bacon loves you.0

It was a HUGE change for me. Even when I would watch my calories I would still eat a LOT of fruit and veggies and whole grains etc....so it may be some meds weirdness going on too.0 -
BETTER BACON? I found a perfect solution for cost and quality.
I saw a big meatloaf sized package called: "Bacon Ends & Pieces" in the ham section. The price was 40% less a pound . So I asked the butcher about its quality, he said it is the same exact bacon as they lay in strips and package, after nipping the ends and bits they form them into a 3lb "loaf." I got it home, and chilled it a bit, then was able to slice 3" wide hunks easily, and freeze. Fry the 1"-2" bacon bits in a smaller diameter pan, cooks quicker as you stir it around.
I always wondered why strips are presented like that on waxed cardboard, I guess to show the high meat?..but Ketoists want the fat just as much. Who can eat a greasy strip with fingers unless it's almost burned and stiff? Cutting raw strips of bacon smaller to fry is a nuisance, this is a better deal all around.0 -
The bacon loves you. Love it back.
I have days when I'm hungry all day. Snack on the bacon. Cook in batches in the oven and keep it in the fridge where you can lovingly reach for it when you're hungry.
Cheese is good for hunger too. MMmmmm... cheese.0 -
@Sajyana and @fzermer You are both wise and have much to teach! @KETOGENICGURL Now I am SO going to have to look for that!0

My nutritionist once told me...when you actually feel hungry your body is working correctly. She also said when you are feeling that way to drink water, you may be dehydrated. Good things. Keep drinking water, have a piece of cheese or almonds..healthy satisfying snacks to get you through those moments

I will work for bacon!0

I found a Korean pork jerky at Costco that is wonderful and not too bad on the numbers ..it helps my bacon obsession. Lol0
-
This was in no means to be a statement that I am obsessed with bacon, only that it seems to work better at keeping me from getting so hungry. And I have no issue with eating bacon as I dont see it as unhealthy. Cheese is ok, almonds do nothing. As far as nutritionists and dieticians go, well, the last one I saw told me to eat at 1200 cal a day, low fat, high carb grains and veggies, despite the fact I was working out even more than I do now. So I tend to take their advise with a grain of salt.0
