    Morning!

Finished a very long set of midnights Monday morning, and straight into the dentist chair for a couple of hours of "big ow" work; as a result sleep schedule is still messed up, moving my parts is a little behind and food choices rather limited for a day or two yet, but am feeling much more human today so will be springing back into action!

Today is my weekly weigh day; down a few ounces but not worth changing my weight ticker, specially as I suspect some of it is due to the 48 hr dental diet ha!!

I did not make my 750 cals burned from intentional exercise goal for last week; I was about 120 cals short, but I was happy that I still got my movements in; have been doing some daily stretches and working on flexibility and balance as well which are not big calorie burners but is helping with some stiffness here and there so will see if I notice a difference at all by the end of the month challenge. Will keep my same goal of 750 cals burned by exercise and moving every day for a min of 30 min, even tho im a little behind for this week im gonna give it my all to accomplish it!

Milove: I suspect artificial flowers from your g/k far outweigh any fresh ones!! So glad you are enjoying the new app and kudos to you on your goals and "springing into action"!!! Isn't it funny how we will add steps (or any movement) when we KNOW we are short ? Great idea on walking to the store to pump up the goal, well done you!

OWR: welcome back!! 11 hrs in the car... I don't think i'd be able to get out of it!! Kudos on getting out for the walks with your DIL; and we're ack to cold and sched snow here as well for the next week.. grrrr! I just keep reminding myself spring WILL come eventually - maybe I can take out my frustration on the treadmill LOL!
    -
Gail - are you on the work road trip this week???? Huge kudos to you on such awesome progress on cutting out the sugars; im super impressed!! hope the weather was okay for the trip!

Hope everyone is doing okay and looking forward to hearing how week 2 of our spring into action challenge is going for all! Better get my movement in this morning as taking my senior friend for chores and dr appts this aft.. and since I've been up since 3am, know if I don't do it now, I'm likely to go back to bed instead LOL! :o

I don't know how you do it Snooozie! I think it is awesome that you get any movement in at all working midnights... That would mess me up something awful! So, You Go Girl -- any movement during those times and especially after a dental invasion! Keep doing what you are doing and stretching and balance is something we all should work on!

I am fiddling with my FitBit to figure out how to manage the "activity minutes" versus tracking "exercise" and what that difference might be. I'm technologically inept!

Cannot wait for more of the Spring to get into more action!

Sorry to hear Snoozie about spending time at the dentist (ow) and still a very good congrats on not gaining any lbs.
You are so right Snoozie about the flowers (priceless).

I agree with OWR about how awesome it is for you to still get your exercise going and working nights, I worked nights for years I know how difficult it is with the body always feeling off kilter.

I jumped right in and I did not introduce myself I am Gwen and its nice to meet you OWR, I copied Snoozie's shortcut. lol

OWR - I dunno why but I get this mental image of you hunched over your little fitbit pushing buttons, shaking it, and demanding it work !! (oh wait.. that's how I do it LOL)!!
    - hope you've figured out the activity vs exercise; I don't have one but I wonder if it's kinda like MFP where the cals we expend duing everyday, normal activity (work, shopping, cleaning etc) are already accounted for in required calories for the day, but intentional exercise isn't?? I think T2 had a fitbit which bit the dust during an unfortunate period of incarceration in the washing machine.... she might be able to help when she gets back?
    -
Milove- I don't know if I mentioned it, but I LOVE your pic!! I totally think it rocks.. and I might just copy it for my phone screen saver! Got my yoga in this morning; good thing as I fell asleep on the couch after dinner LOL! hopefully tonight will get completely turned around and can "spring" into some additional "NEPA" movements too!! :D

    IPOM. ..

Made it to the gym yesterday. ....which is great for me. ....luckily day light savings is here. .I hate driving in the dark. My eyes aren't what they used to be.

Zumba is on my plan for tomorrow unless the weather sucks. Calling for snow and winter weather the first day of spring o:)B)

    Talk to you later

Snooozie, you must have seen me wogging around our fairgrounds, saying naughty things to my fitbit and stopping, poking at it again trying to figure this all out! A very correct image of my time spent with the iPad, iPhone or fitbit..... grrrrrrrr. Nothing makes me feel more my age than dealing with technology. I Will Persevere and Conquer - well, probably not that forcefully, but I sure hope to get this. I am surrounded my Techies in the family - they help me all the while shaking their heads. But move on I shall!

Milove -- so much better than having to type out that moniker - OWR fits me perfectly! And I found your picture and printed it out and put it on my desk! Love it!

Why is it in January and February when the snow is flying and the temps are subzero we can move our bodies? But, in March when the air should be soft and clear and much warmer, I feel depressed and do not want to get it in gear. Must Move More!

Goal -- get at least 3 miles in today. Yesterday that was my goal also, but my daughter called and asked if we could drive into the city and go wedding stuff shopping - of course I would go! And then we hit my fav Mexican on the way home.... We shared a meal.

I so hear ya on the tecchie stuff OWR... I don't have any munchkins around to help but im not shy asking the young uns at work when needed! God bless you tube videos is all I can say... lol I learned a whole lot of wonderful things my smartphone can do for me - and I use SIRI now for just about everything; making reminders for myself, adding stuff to my calendar, launching apps , making grocery lists LOL.. it's like having my own personal assistant now! and sometimes I even get to show the little smart a$$es a thing or two now :D
    -
I have complete faith you can hit your 3 mile goal today! My plan is still to make my weekly goal of 750 cals burned thru intentional exercise, but im also trying to add in the NEPA stuff more throughout the day - tonight will be the real challenge as after dinner is my worst couch potato time but I am confident I can break that habit if I start trying!
And thanks for the Mexican tip... naked fajitas on the menu for tonight for me LOL!

    Morning Hatters...

Almost at the end of week 3 of our Spring into Action challenge; time really does fly and today is the official first day of actual Spring! Woo hoo! Even if the temps here don't reflect it, I'm going with it LOL!

Got my healing yoga in early as I was up anyway lol..lots of NEPA stuff on the agenda with a ton of housework waiting on me, and planned ahead for dayshift tomorrow by sauteeing a lot of peppers and onion and a few strips of bacon, and making up TWO omelets; one to bring for brekkie to work tomorrow; planning on leftovers from dinner tonight for lunch and at a loss at the moment for dinner LOL.. but its a start on planning ahead!

Do you log housework and NEPA stuff as exercise? I'm don't, but not sure if I should or not. Maybe since I don't do enough of it? :o I tend to only count when I get my sweat on and then try to not eat all those calories back. Not sure which way to go with that.

However,,,,,,best thing? Spring -- I love Spring! This year seems especially welcome with such a harsh winter. Can't Wait!

Oh yes, Snooozie I did figure out how to track my exercise on the FitBit - now, I don't want to anymore. I did 3.5 miles in 42 minutes - sweated like a pig - and it only logged 284 calories burned... say what? Not super encouraging.
  • Snooozie
    Snooozie Posts: 3,461 Member
no OWR... NEPA stuff isn't meant to be logged as exercise cals burned; its just they've figured out all the movement we do from those activities is just as important in helping us move our parts as doing sustained, intentional workouts are... before they kinda didn't really give those activities enough credit that it benefitted us by requiring us to move our parts - but since they are everyday activities in our regular lives, they are NOT meant to be counted as exercise calories burned, it's just they now recognize doing NEPA gets credit for being beneficial to us by making us move our parts LOL..
    -
I only log sustained, intentional exercise myself too.. AND since I've noticed a substantial difference in cals burned between the treadmill count and my runkeeper app for the same distance/speed/time (almost 100 cal diff) I always average the two and only eat back half. I think almost everyone you talk to on MFP agrees the calories given on the site here as burned for any exercise are way too high... I know at "full out, pushing myself, sweating like a pig speed" on the TM it takes me well over an hour to burn just 250 cals... so I'm thinking your fitbit is probably accurate, especially because I think it takes into account a lot more info specifically geared to your height, weight, age etc than something like a treadmill which pretty much gives a generic cal count... and we all know it's different for everyone.

I think 284 cals is actually great!!! If you hit that every day that would be almost 2000 calories a week burned JUST from exercise which is over 1/2 a lb just from that... so I think its grand work!!

<3 Hi all!! I made it back from Mckinney ,Texas area.... Had a good time , anytime away from my work is lovely...even if I have to look at someone's else's it's okay. I was able to drop another lb off the old carcass!! I'm hoping one more that keeps lurking around..here one day gone the next , will finally drop off too...

We got to eat at a few awesome places...( I live in a little one horse town...with very few places to eat and none are noteworthy...so I always look to eat somewhere good. Lifestyle change can wait!!!! hahaha...
WE went to BUTTON'S .. it's a soulfood type bar and grill....awesome chicken and waffles!!
We also got in to PAPPADEAUX'S's ...a cajun restaurant.... Fabulous margarita's , Chilean Sea Bass w/ steamed spinach, grilled asparagus ,cup of gumbo, fresh baked french bread...yes, indeedy I ate it all....but I was very slight in my daily eating...saving all my calories for Dinner....
I really hated to come home....except I missed my honey...he was home alone and caught the flu...now you all know a man can't take care of himself when he's sick... so I am glad to be back in that respect.

Looks like everyone is right on top of their goals. (I did a quick read, I am at work on break....)
    IPOU all!!

WELCOME home Gail!! Figured you were off on the work trip you had mentioned was coming up; my mouth was watering reading about the food at Pappadeaux's... right up my alley I would have absolutely indulged as well!! so glad you had such a great trip; and HUGE Congrats on another pound gone girl!! Missed ya, and sorry to hear hubby's sick.. we have a lot off sick at work right now seems to be a chest thing going around; bet he is indeed very glad to have you home again!

Sounds like a great trip was had with mouthwatering foods. If we do not ever let ourselves indulge, we would start being bat@#$% crazy! 95% Healthy eating / 5% indulge?? What do you think? Great pound gone! Yay! That silly chest cold thing is catching a lot of folks -- succumbed over the weekend myself. My husband brought home that wonderful gift on Tuesday. So thoughtful of him. Oh well, since we haven't had anything at all for over 2+ years, I'm thinking we shall survive.

Looking forward to feeling better and getting our Movement going this week. But, snow today? Say it isn't so!

OWR - hope you're feeling somewhat better by now with that nasty cold! My spring into action has been sidelined with a frozen shoulder for the past few days; altho attempting to fasten a certain undergarment every day with one hand burned a few hundred cals! Low on sleep and crazy busy week have resulted in my springing becoming more of a waddle! no loss this week (today being my weigh in day) but today can actually move the arm a little so plan to finish off this spring into action month on a high note for the next few days!
    -
Been a little quiet in the 'hood here; hope everyone is doing okay in their real worlds and look forward to hearing how everyone's journeys are going.. hard to believe we're already 4 months into the year!

As I sit in my office, staring at this computer screen and listening to rain pelt the windows and yes, that was thunder; starting to wonder this thought. Will Spring ever actually happen? Not feeling Spring outside nor Spring in my step right now. Just going to have to go with the old Salt and Peppa song.... Push It -- Push it Real Good. And Push through this downtrodden feeling and get out there and be quick quick like a little Bunny!

    We. Can. Do. This!!!

Wow, March is whizzing past so quickly! I can't keep up! I keep forgetting to check in. I'm now catching up on everyone's news over the month. Gail, you're making me hungry! (I'm possibly going out to the coast today or tomorrow, and it's going to involve food). Well done on losing weight with all that tempting food around! Sounds like you are very good at planning.

OWR, when I logged, I didn't log housework, etc., as I don't honestly think that I burn many calories doing it. However, if it was more active than usual I might do (like some gardening work).

I've been managing to move a bit more - have had some time off work so going to the gym more than usual, and have had more opportunities for walking (I know, I know, I don't need "opportunities", I just need to open the front door and do it! But after work, when it's cold, dark, windy and wet I don't feel at all inspired. Whereas if it's daytime and I have a purpose such as going somewhere and getting something it's not a problem). I've been doing kettlebells classes at the gym and really want to buy my own kettlebells, but they are so expensive!

I've been carrying on doing my mindfulness course. I'd recommend it - I don't particularly enjoy the meditation exercises, but I do feel they are helping me deal with everyday stresses, and it's also supposed to have physical benefits. It's probably quite a good accompaniement to dieting.

Woah!! I am in a carb -drunk sleepy phase...I just ate lunch.I was extremely hungry and just went about getting anything I wanted...Not a good idea for a recovering carbaholic!! I have recently been cutting my carbs to around 100...for the whole day...not in one meal!! So I am paying for it now.I just want to curl up somewhere and cut a few ZZZZZZzssss........ nite-nite... and it's only 2:00 pm...lol

I can tell it's working though, when I do follow my goal plans..My new size "smaller "jeans are a bit loose. YAY!!!
I can tell now I usually don't feel this sleepy after a low carb low sugar meal...Lessons learned...

    Go Team Go.... o:)

OWR - keep up the great work...and that's the reason I don't have a fitbit

Gail - welcome back and glad you enjoyed your trip

Vail - I hate winter walks - I have a treadmill at the gym near where I work - but the bundle up factor keeps me away.. more of an outside walker..

Snoozie - great job on the planning part... I do lots of NEPA - and I count it as "living life" with a low calorie burn - like a 2.0mph walk...

We had the snow storm from hell the first day of spring B) - next time I'm taking my own advice / woman's intuition and leaving for the day ... my safety is more important than waiting for a 35 year old boss >:) decide to let us go (with no charge to our own leave balance)... not worth it at all....

    Talk to you soon...

Morning Hatters!! Just about to do a catch up read and reply... will update this as I go along so I don't lose it LOL..

Vailara - I loved your line “i just have to open the front door and do it”….. amen to that! Definitely something I have to remind myself of too.. especially with the cold and snow still here I can talk myself out of doing it faster than a speeding bullet! Im glad your enjoying the mindful classes!

Gail - had to laugh at your carb induced haze cause same thing happens to me… a bowl of pasta can put me into couch potato mode in a heartbeat! AWESOME news about your already new jeans being a little loose…. yay!! !!!!!!!!!!!! fantastic!!

Carol - congrats on the NSV well done you! I hear ya on the treacherous travel; the older I get the more I hate those nasty weather drives but sadly no option in mine but to show up no matter what (at least until retirement lol) which looks better and better at 4am in 3 feet of snow!

Milove: just read your post in the interesting reads… I changed my own level to sedentary after reading a few articles about what really constitutes “lightly active” because I don’t think I truly qualify as lightly active.. but that's just Me… and because that way I just eat to my set daily cals and don’t have to worry about doing the math to make sure I don’t eat back my exercise cals… everyone’s gotta do what works for them so you’re basically doing the same thing with a lightly active setting, you're just making sure you don't eat back your exercise cals if I understand it right.. so that sounds great… as long as its comfortable for you that’s what matters - I may decide to switch back to the same way if I find its better down the road too lol..

as far as venting… when this group was first formed it was specifically for a SAFE place for us all to be able to be honest without fear of judgement, to be able to share our struggles and successes AND to be able to vent LOL.. so no worries girl that’s what we're here for!

I live alone so I don’t have the added challenge of having others in the house who either don’t want to follow the same plan, or who think they’re doing us a “favour” by bringing us treats or special meals cause they don’t want us to miss out on something…. so I can only imagine how frustrating that would be… I guess in a way its like co workers or other family members or friends saying “just try one” or “one cookie wont kill you”… and we end up eating something we may not really want for a myriad of reasons…. sometimes just to shut them up, sometimes out of some misguided sense of “guilt” … for some reason we aren’t comfortable just saying NO thank you…. anyone else find that? sometimes the person gets all insulted if we refuse something… and sometimes even throw in a “but I baked them just for you” or I bought it just for you…. and maybe its just tht we don't want to seem impolite (which is tatamount to having your citizenship revoked for a Canadian by the way.. .being impolite. hahahaha).. but honestly when we really think about it… we should feel perfectly free to simply say no thank you I don't want it. without any guilt or any other weird reason.. I mean…. it makes no sense to sabotage our own efforts just to make someone else happy... this is supposed to be about getting what WE WANT for ourselves now….. we’ve put everyone else on the front burner for decades and now is our time to do what we want, and not do what we don’t want to with no apologies to anyone….. but there's no doubt its a hard habit to break!! but I think its something we all need to work on to make sure that we don't lose ourselves and our goals along the way…..

remember too an indulgence here and there is not only normal, but needed… its finding the fine line between how we used to indulge ALL the time, and now knowing as long as we stay with our new “norm” way of eating most of the time, and keep the indulgences to occasional we will be okay… so don't sweat an occasional one…… enjoy it knowing it doesn't matter because you’ll be right back to your new norm at the next meal or day !

I think we all find ourselves in that position Gail.. but I was thinking last night it's kinda ludicrous really that I feel guilty saying no thank you to FOOD, yet if someone were to offer say... crack... or a cigarette.... or something equally as unhealthy for us as crappy junk food is, we'd have absolutely NO problem saying NO! Yet when it comes to junk food, we hesitate and often give in more for THEIR sake... the person giving it to us, than for our own...truly now that I think about it, how weird is that?? Definitely something I'm going to work on.... practising "no thank you, I don't want any" without any apology or further explanation .... yes i'm about to talk outloud to myself yet again... lol

Just back from yet another big dental apt; thankfully this should be the last for quite a while; I think my nose and eyeball are frozen along with my mouth this time tho!

    Feel better Snoozie

I ended up turning around and going back home on my way into work. ...got up later than I wanted to. .running late. ..didn't feel like hearing the boss give his opinion. ...
Told the boss I was feeling under the weather. ...sort of a white lie..
I'm going to use the day to get things done around the house for me
Plus I hadn't made my coffee, lunch or finished my overnight laundry. ..

Check out my lol on my page:)
