I can tell you that without cholesterol meds of any kind, getting on thyroid meds, in 6 months, my trigs wen from 260 or so to 112 or something. Just from thyroid meds. If this is an endocrinologist, I would ask for the comprehensive thyroid testing indicated on the website above. If this isn't an endo, I would get a referral to one. Getting your thyroid in range could ramp up your health even more.
I agree with the full thyroid panel. DH has both Type 2 diabetes and Hashimoto's (autoimmune thyroid disease). The site KnitOrMiss linked to is a good one. You want to make sure you get tested again for TSH, free T4, free T3, anti-thyroid peroxidase, possibly anti-thyroglobulin, there are a couple others as well that may be appropriate also. DH takes Armour to treat the Hashimoto's.
Also I noticed you had been on prescription vitamin D2? That is not considered a good form of vitamin D. Vitamin D3 is preferred. You may consider supplementation with that. If you want a natural form, look into fermented cod liver oil (contains vitamin A as well).0 -
Thank you Misti. I will do that. A copy of my blood work was also sent to my endo.
I stopped taking D2 back in September, because of the bad things I read about it on the internet. I read somewhere that Keto and grainfree will help Vit D. My blood work showed an improvement, but still low & out-of-range.
This is common in Michigan, not much sun AND I don't "bathe" in it. I also looked into indoor lighting that produces the correct spectrum, but not logistical.
I'll look into the supplements, thank you for telling me the specific one to look for.

I live farther north than you do and I need to supplement with D3 as well. But in the summer, I soak up the sun. Look for the liquid kind of D3. I take 5,000 IU daily.0

The drops for D3 absorb quicker than the capsules. It tastes weird but can be added to any non water drink... NuMedica is the brand I have, and each "drop" is 1000 IU, so easily modified dosages this way. It's a little pricey, but the bottle lasts a long way. Other brands are also found on Amazon and such.0
