For me, before I would plan out almost all of my meals and snacks, and I would eat on a schedule, I think the biggest change for me, is asking myself if I am really hungry right now, or am I just used to eating right now. I am trying to really recognize when I am hungry. I did find at one point that I got busy at work and did not have a chance to eat, and then when things slowed down I realized I was really really hungry. I wanted to eat a huge amount at first, but I decided to fix my normal portion, and just get seconds if I was still hungry. I felt great after the normal portion, and did not even need to get the second helping. I was over on my calories, but I have been most days since I started LCHF and I have continued to lose, so I am really trying not to worry about it.

I know what you mean! I used to spend two hours every Sunday writing out a menu for the week for each of us, making sure the carbs were low enough, and then I'd allow myself to go grocery shopping.

Since my husband joined in I just have to make sure we have eggs, bacon, cheese, coffee, cream, and then whatever we co-decided on for dinners. It's awesome!

Today I was off work and rather than get up and make breakfast like I normally do on weekends, I decided to have my coffee first and eat whenever I got hungry. It didn't really happen! I knew we needed to cook dinner at some point so I made myself eat a snack before I went to the store so I wouldn't get hungry eyes.

Now that I've eaten dinner I feel like I don't need to eat again til tomorrow night.

Just closed out my diary with 33 gr of carbs and 230 some calories. Got the message about under eating.

Uhm, 230 calories eaten? I hope you had a big day yesterday, or are ok with a big one tomorrow. LOL

I find that I'm more in tune with my hunger.

I'm not tracking either calories or carbs, but on vacation, I've been a little naughty in terms of both. >:)

Yesterday, my family decided to torture me with another low-carb nightmare.

But I had my revenge today. Took them to the Tillamook Cheese factory. Lots of free samples. :)

I thought we were only tracking carbs. I didn't track foods without carbs but trust me I way more than 230.

LOL, oh. Some people chose to track, but only logged right before going to bed (so the number doesn't change how much they eat). Some are just tracking foods with carbs (like you're doing). I thought you were part of the first group and hadn't eaten anything all day.

I actually prefer the way you're doing it. I just saw 230 calories for the day and was thinking, "I've had days when I was not very hungry, but that's really not hungry." lol

I need that to be my inspiration, @FIT_Goat. I've been making all sorts of recipes with almond flour lately and I'm way over my carb limit every day I try one (or more, usually more) of them.

Yesterday I was over my carb limit but way under on sodium. Had a headache at bedtime. Made a point to eat salty this morning, but again, I'm over my carb limit. Thankfully my carb limit is a low one, but that's because it seems to be what I need to get where I want.

Bone broth is in the crock pot now. Looking forward to replacing breakfast with coffee and broth again (the MSG was giving me a problem in the bouillon cubes I was having every day).

Wow, that picture came out HUGE. My wife took it because a couple friends were thinking of meeting us for dinner down where we were. Then they suddenly asked, "wait, if you're at BJ's, doesn't Goat have half of a cow in the carriage?" So, my wife had me hold the meat so she could send them a photo. I told her to send me the photo, so I could upload it here. LOL

This was my semi-weekly food shopping trip. I picked up enough food to last about 3 weeks.

    That would be:
    • 16 pounds of 75/25% ground beef burger patties
    • 24.7 pounds of chuck (pictured)
    • 6 pounds of bacon

I also picked up some ribs, but those are smoking right now for Easter with the family. My wife also has some stuff in the carriage that I won't touch (muffins, snacks, etc.). There was some sparkling water as well. Altogether, this trip was over $200. The above list is just my personal food. That was $164.39 ($156.17 after cash-back) for the three weeks. I average about 2 pounds of meat a day. So, about $52-$55 a week for food. It's not a rice and beans budget, but it's not as expensive as some people average.

well i made it through the seder intact. i ate some things i normally would not have (matzah & a tiny bit of grape juice as part of the seder, choc. covered strawberries, a macaroon and a couple roasted new potatoes), and was over my usual carb limit (normally 20, i was just over 50) but i didn't go crazy and i will just pick up and keep moving today.

i ended up feeling odd before the dinner - hadn't eaten enough calories and fat through the day, and was way lower on carbs than usual. felt low blood sugar/pressure. if i had been feeling stronger, dinner might have been easier.

I'm going to be over my 20 today but under 50 as well. I think we'll be ok. I made a LC chocolate cheescake (one serving) with a ground almond/cinnamon crust. It's going to be epic. After I eat my steak and butter. Made deviled eggs, too. I can't wait for supper!

Goat, I'm seriously jealous of your haul!

My sweet husband made me a big 2 egg, bacon, mushroom, cheese omelet for breakfast; I couldn't even finish it. I wasn't very hungry for our Easter dinner, so just had a little ham and asparagus. I'm still a calorie watcher, and I'm going to be very low in everything today unless I get hungry later tonight.

I'm not to eat if I'm not hungry, right? Even when calories/macros are quite low? I keep dithering about this in my head.

My folks cut off a chunk of the ham for me and my husband before they glazed it, and we had a side of asparagus. Butter on everything.

    That was awesome of them!

And the cheesecake was SO yummy! Hubs overcooked the steak....as per the usual...I like mine to still moo a little. He likes his twice-dead and impersonating charcoal...sigh but there was a hint of pink so I praised him anyway for being thoughtful. Deviled eggs were divine! I still have some of them and that's lunch! yum.gif

I wish I had some deviled eggs today! I had to throw out the batch I made last week. Gotta stop making extra meals.. I barely have the appetite for the planned ones!

When I first read about the April challenge, I said "great, I can do this no-counting stuff" and immediately signed up. I'm here to say I am nowhere near ready to jump out of this airplane and trust that my chute will open. While I've been fine with my declared goal of <16 carbs, I just feel way out of control and anxious if I'm not counting calories. I've done okay with not eating to stay in my macros, however when it's late in the evening and I'm hungry, I feel like I have to check my macros to see if I need fat or protein more. Maybe after 6 months or so I'll be ready to let go and trust that I'm strong and confident enough in my body listening skills to try this fully again. For now, for the rest of April, I'll stick to maintaining my <16 carbs and that will be good enough for me this time around.

Not doing so good today. Most of my carbs came from veggies though.

Oh, I forgot about the eggs, the free range farm eggs are totally worth it ! We get 6 doz/mo, but need to supplement with extra free run from the store, because I can't fit 12 dozen in my fridge at one time.

They don't all need to be in the fridge, ours live in the (ex) bread bin and are sold at ambient temp in stores.

At least you gave it a shot. It can be very scary at first. There is always the future.

That's the idea, yep. The light days balance out the heavy days ... this is why counting doesn't jive with this WOE: the numbers make you second-guess your hunger cues.

Thank you, Kirkor! It feels a little scary to drop the calorie count, but I think I might be ready to do it. The numbers really do make me second-guess my hunger cues. You are so right! Thanks!
