I don't like Butter!

I really, really, really hate butter. I don't like the taste & I can't stand the feel of it in my mouth. What are some other ways to add fat? Have just started low carb. Set my goals at: 20% C, 35% P, & 65% F and am struggling to get up to fat levels & down to protein. How do I stay in 1200 calories with all the fat?
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Kate

    Coconut and olive oil.
You can taste butter in hot drinks?

Yes I can. Could be my mind tricking me but I know the butter is there. My son's fiancée has been baking and she only uses butter and the smell makes me want to gag. But thanks for the coconut oil tip. Can you buy it at regular grocery store?

Usually, yeah. It's gotten a lot easier to find in the past year or so. If not, "health food"/supplement places always have it.

I'm lactose intolerant. As a kid I secretely poured out the chocolate milk. And even the tiniest amount of butter makes me gag. So RAW or melted dairy is out for me. Oddly enough I can eat yoghurt or cooked/fried dairy. I think it's got something to do with enzymes profile change with cooking.

Yogurt's easy -- the cultures eat nearly all of the lactose. No lactose, no reaction. Cooked...the only thing I can figure is that cooking makes it break down easier, or breaks the lactose down itself. My son's the same way you are. No milk or ice cream, but yogurt seems okay and cooked foods with milk are okay.

First, yes it's entirely possible. I could have stayed at about 800 calories yesterday had I skipped dinner (I actually didn't feel particularly hungry at dinner time, but ate because I did way too much on way too little), and that was 70g fat, 55g protein, and 4g carbs.

MFP bases the macro numbers on your calorie goal. They are all a percentage of your total calories. As long as you stick to your macro goals, it's impossible to go over on calories beyond the margin of error that comes with rounding.

Second, butter isn't the only fat. As others mentioned, coconut oil is a good replacement for it. There's also bacon grease (aka lard), tallow, duck fat, schmaltz (chicken fat), avocado oil, and a bunch else. Add one of them to all your vegetables. Eat the fat on the pork chops (and probably add a little on the entry you use, 5g fat for 8oz sounds like it's counting trimmed).

Also, trade that 1% milk for whole milk (or depending on your purpose, cream). If you don't like the higher fat dairy milk, then switch to canned coconut milk. That will decrease the sugar per serving and increase the fat per serving either way you do it.

Trade the chicken breast for skin on thighs. If you need to use up chicken breasts that you have already bought, put a fat on them. Wrap them in bacon, make a mayo-based dressing, or make a cream sauce for them.

Trade the 90% hamburger for 75%. Add bacon grease to your existing stock.

Add fat to everything -- if you pull out a meat that you're going to use and it's very lean, make sure you pair a fat with it. Add cheese, nuts, or avocado to your salads.

Also, make sure that 1,200 is enough for you. With only 12lb to lose according to your ticker, make sure your weight loss goal is set to .5lb or 1lb per week.

Depending on the exact nature of your back injury, I recommend a good chiropractor and at least a month on a supplement called Hyaluronic Acid. I was down and out for over a year with a back injury that was mediated by degenerating discs. The Hyaluronic Acid re-hydrated the discs (it's what it does, and it's phenomenal for "wear and tear" type joint issues of all sorts, including osteoarthritis) and the chiropractor corrected the compression injury that had resulted. I'm now in the process of repairing the muscle tightness issues that happened as a result, and once that's done, I'll be good as new (better, actually, since the degenerating discs have caused me issues for some time).

    Cacao butter
    Mayo
    Avocado / guac
    Macadamia nut oil
Coconut cream (have to be careful with this one)
Bacon grease. Wrapped in bacon. Fried in bacon. With a side of bacon.

You mentioned fried cheese - that's pretty good stuff. There's this "bread cheese" they sell around here that's not really bread. It's just very rich and dense cheese that's already been baked and it's amazing fried in a skillet or microwaved if you must.
There are a lot of cheeses that are made for frying that you can buy in stores, especially ones with an ethnic section.
    Mexican queso fresco / blanco
    Indian paneer
    Cyprus or Greek halloumi

Thanks guys. Realized I still was in wrong mind set. Lean meats & oodles of veggies don't work for this LC. I just bought coconut oil, avocados, cream, & cheese. Now just have to figure out how to put it all together. I've decided to up calories to 1300/day Keeping my macros at 15%C,
20% P, and 65% Fat. I gave wrong numbers before. Headache & fog make math treacherous. Does this seem more doable?

Brain fog will dissipate the further you get from wheat and carbs and the closer you get to fat. :)

What about this darn headache? Actually turning into migraine now, so I'm off to bed with some meds. I'll hopefully be able to eat rest of goals later tonight.

Are you drinking enough water ? Sometimes a headache is produced when dehydration occurs. Also some bone broth might help. As a last resort I use pain killers. I try water first.

Already had 8 glasses H2O today, 3 mugs green tea, & 1 c coffee. Oh and chicken boullion broth. Have just poured another lge glass H2O and hopefully will back off. Hate to take meds unless absolutely necessary so sometimes end up leaving it too late.

    My typical meals:

    Breakfast:
    2 bacon
1 egg (fried in bacon grease)
    coffee with heavy cream
unsweetened cranberry juice (only 2 tablespoons)
    Sometimes unsweetened gelatin!

    Lunch:
    2 or 3 oz meat
85g serving of frozen broccoli with...
14g serving of butter (Kerrygold FTW)
    1 oz / 28g serving of cheese

    Dinner:
2 or 3 oz of meat cooked in fat
Veg cooked in the remaining fat and drippings (I like shredded cabbage)

Bedtime snack can include any of the following:
14g serving of golden flax seeds with cinnamon mixed in
    Butter and cream cheese frosting
Sleepytime chamomile tea with heavy cream mixed in
low carb chocolate protein powder with tablespoons of fats mixed in, and made with unsweetened almond coconut milk
    Lily's stevia-sweetened chocolate (tiny strip!)

I tend to eat fairly simple, and I like easy.

Magnesium helps headaches, in case you're low. If you're not already aware, watch your electrolytes. Hope you feel better soon.

I've been keeping an eye on the electrolytes in food diary. Think potassium & magnesium are definitely low. Am doing chicken boullion everyday for sodium. I never did add salt to anything before I started this journey, so adding it now really makes everything very salty to me. Was going to check with pharmacist about supplements next time I'm in city tho. Thanks for everything.

I get plenty of fat just by eating how I've always loved to eat (minus the carbs), AKA by adding cheese to everything! :)

I actually was taking magnesium prior to keto to aid in management of my migraine headaches.

Your headaches should deminish if you continue with this woe. I had daily annoying headaches that were constantly there. Some days were better than others, but about a month or so in they're now gone. I'm so happy to not feeling this constant pain!
I second electrolytes, keep an eye on those little things. I bought NoSalt to add to my food instead of regular salt and my potassium levels are a bit better now.
    Best of luck! :)

Thanks all. I bought sport Mio to add to water and chocolate will definitely be added to my days. Also, I have been adding cheese to everything. I wonder how well cheese & chocolate go together?

Love my morning coffee with 4 tbs of heavy cream, 1 tbs of unsalted butter and (guilty pleasure) 2 tbs of coffee mate creme brulee!

Tonight I will be adding it to my tea, as I believe I will be a bit short of my fat macro.

I prefer heavy cream and coconut oil in my tea (not a coffee fan) and butter in my broth. :)

I am learning to love it and it has changed me. From the inside out, I am different, and feeling so much better! Bring out the butter. I think margarine was slowly poisoning my body! I truly do. It's all I ever used since butter was so "bad" for you. The deception the has been put upon us all by these experts with their own personal agendas have created the major health crises we are seeing today. Their recommendations are killing people! Sorry, soap box!

Would cream and coconut oil work? Cream instead of butter?
