    Hi Val!

It was sure good to hear from you! I am happy you found a more accommodating vet! At the prices you pay, you should be happy. I also want a vet with a lot of empathy and genuine love for animals. Not all stay that way. I am a failed foster, but luckily we are holding at 2 dogs here. It is hard sometimes! You did a wonderful job, and I am sure Buddy will find a good home! Hope it is not too hectic there, though I think you maybe working pretty hard! :)

    Hi Rodger!

Congratulations on your pound loss! Your walking is sure creeping up there, step-wise. That is awesome! I am glad your shipments seem to be coming with no problems. It is downright real breezy here. It is wonderful and it makes me feel twice as bad for everyone in harms way from Matthew. It has given us some fabulous weather. Hopefully if Matthew loops he will only be a tropical storm and will break up quickly for Fla. and the coast. Still wishing we could get some of that rain.

I found some prune plums from Oregon and bought a bag. They are very similar to Damson plums and taste very close to what my Grandpa used to grow. His fruit was a little more amber and a little sweeter, but they are so close! It was a good buy and fond memories!

Take care all! Be safe and be wise in your choices, lol! Jan B)

    Hi Jan
I would not exactly say with no problems, so far no damage, OTOH I would more or less say that Taking a week to get shipped and delivered from the next state over is making me wonder what is going on....
Especially when it arrives the day after being shipped.

Then every order has One or more item that can not be increased in quantity due to low supply in the warehouse :)

I find that the Plums I like are usually the Dark Plums and that as with Nectarines and Apples I like them Firm.

    Enjoy Your Plums

    Hi
It was 64 Degrees this morning a change to the warmer from yesterdays temperature. It was comfortable walking despite the light rain. I have walked 7,707 steps today. Yesterday I ended up some what over 11K steps.

I expect to have a decent step count today as my brother & I are going to a Historical event later on today. The details are:
Weekend Journey at the Van Horne House 2016
    FREE*****October 8 from 10-5pm and October 9th from 12-5pm*****FREE

Each year The Heritage Trail Association (HTA) along with the Middlebrook Theatrical Society (MTS) fills the house with an event that took place in the house during the revolutionary war.

This year we are celebrating the wedding of Mary Van Horne to Colonel Stephen Moylan of the Moylan Dragoons. Col. Moylan also served as Aide-de-Camp to General Washington, (who may visit over the weekend).

Guided tours with groups of 8 or 10 and lasting 1 hour and 15 minutes will have you participating in the following activities:
Learn about relationships and wooing in the 18th century
Dance the popular dance, ‘Come Haste to the Wedding’ with live music –we will teach you! THE place to practice your wooing skills just learned!
Learn about wedding rites and rituals from our magistrate, John Jacob Faisch
The Reception of course, with punch from an 18th century recipe, cookies and be prepared to ‘Toast the happy couple’ (this house is not known as Convivial Hill for nothing!)

Horse races to celebrate the happy couple will occur with prizes to the winners As always, we have lots to do and treats for the kids. Come dressed in period clothes, or modern day duds, but DO NOT miss this party, one of a great many thrown by Phillip Van Horne and his wife, Elizabeth as they celebrate the marriage of their eldest daughter to an Irish officer of the Revolution.
And yes, this actually did occur in this house September 12th, 1778!

Yesterday I received the Shelf stable AKA Ready to Go portion of my order via USPS. FedEx handed it off to the Post Office. I suspect that is due to it being under 8 pounds as that is a first for my regular NS food Deliveries. I say regular food as I have had Missing items come that way in the past.

    Have a Great Sunday

    Hi
It was 50 Degrees this morning a change for the colder from yesterdays temperature. It was Somewhat comfortable walking except when the gentle breeze blew. I walked 7958 steps today. I may end up turning on the heat in the near future as the house is starting to run cold. The Living Room was at 64 degrees when I returned from my walk.

As expected I had a decent step count Sunday due to my brother & I going to a Historical event. I reached over my minimum goal of 10K steps for the day :)

    Have a Great Week

    Hi!

The Van Horne event sounded interesting. Did you learn to do the dances? I thought the horse races sounded interesting too!

It is really cool and pleasant here! We were down to about 57 at night and mid to lower 80's during the day.My house was down to 75, so much better, though still a little stuffy during the day, as the air does not come on much. I open up a little in the morning and it feels great. I have a fan going, and as long as you are not doing too much it is comfortable. It feels much better out than in, unless it is mid-day in the sun!

Your shipments did sound a little convoluted. At least Matthew did not reach you during a shipment! :) Always a little to be thankful for!

I had my pancakes yesterday for breakfast. I think it is a fall thing! I am making some chicken and rice for supper so I need to count that first as it is a little off menu. I think it is a fall thing too. It is the national dish of Puerto Rico, and I just have a taste for it. It is chicken and corn in a tomato base, with Adobo spice and a few packets of another spice. Just before it is done you throw in some rice to the consistency you want, either stew like or soup like. I will go with soup like as it is less calories from the rice.

Have a great day! Jan B)

    Hi Jan
They talked us through a dance, However if that was entertainment it was not my cup of tea.

The Horse races were held indoors due to weather with Broom handle style horses and Kids as the Jockeys. they would have been similar if held outdoors as there is not enough room for real horses.

A real horse was ridden through the house up to the second floor and back down a different set of stairs by American General Benjamin Lincoln when he was under the influence according to part of the talk yesterday.

TBH I would prefer Your weather to what we are having here.

I think if I were doing The chicken and rice supper I would be using instant rice as I tend to take the easy route when cooking, hence my like of the NS entrees or the Frozen Entrees You just Microwave from the Supermarket :)

    Stay Cool and comfortable

    Hi
It was 43 Degrees this morning a change for the colder from yesterdays temperature. It was So-So for comfort walking, I tried out the Electric Hand warmer today. It worked OK, It would have done a better job if I had used mittens so it could nestle down by the fingers rather than the gloves I wore. I walked 8,065 steps today. I ended up turning on the heat as the house is cold this morning, the Living Room is at 60 degrees :(

Later today We will be going out back and bagging up plant materials from the parts of the garden that have gone by earlier and pulling some more that have reached the end of the line. What is left that is still growing are the Eggplants although what is on them is likely to be all there is. The Beets and Sweet potatoes which are most likely done growing too as the leaves are starting to turn. The Tomatoes seem to be finished too.

I had a decent step count Monday reaching my minimum goal of 10K+ steps for the day :)

    Have a Great Tuesday

    Hi!

It is chilly up there. I guess your garden will be coming to an end! We have been 1 month without rain. A record of 56 days or somewhere around there was set in 1904. Hopefully it will rain sooner!

Glad your warmer worked! Good to try it before it get's frigid out!

My painters came today. I had about 6 hours to clean the nite before. otherwise I would be waiting 2 1/2 weeks. So I took it. I got enough cleaned and moved A LOT of little stuff. I got about 3.5 hrs sleep. I woke at 5 am and got up as I was anxious to get as much as I could done. It is looking great! They did the heavy stuff I am pooped though. And have one last room to do. The dogs and I were outside all day. It was beautiful and we enjoyed it. They are both zonked after eating supper and are flat layed out!

    Good for the diet however!

    Take care! Jan B)

It was 49 Degrees this morning a change to the warmer from yesterdays temperature. It was comfortable walking and due to unforseen circumstances I walked 4435 steps today. Yesterday I ended up with 10.5K steps.
I did get my shopping done at the Grocery Store, 4 Bananas, 4 Honey Crisp Apples, 3 Mineola Oranges and 2 D'Anjou Pears and a 10% discount :)

    Have a Great Wednesday

    Hi Jan
Much of the Garden is done for, What is left is one of the Eggplants, Sweet Potatoes and a Tomato plant in a raised bed that has a wrap around it. The Sun-chokes are just waiting to be frosted before they are harvested as they are supposed to be tastier afterwards.

It should be a little warmer tomorrow morning due to a cloud cover moving in and that should help retain the days heat better than a clear sky does.

Hopefully You will get some rain in the near future.

How nice that You got the painting done. all that moving things out of the way and later moving things back should give You plenty of exercise :)

You must be having better weather than I, I ended up turning on the heat yesterday due to the house feeling cold.

    Have a Good Day

    Hi!

Still pooped! I got up at 05:30 to get ready for today. I actually went to bed at 11 pm, a first for me! I was so tired I could not see straight!

The dogs are zonked out again! All my rooms are painted, they just have a little edging, then putting up some shelves and heavy stuff. I will do the rest myself and clean and weed out as I go. The colors turned out beautifully! I went to Sherman Williams and the guy who helped match my colors was totally awesome! It is so nice when someone knows their job and does it well! :)

I made my chicken last nite, and threw in some kidney beans I had in the refrige left over. I forgot to put in the rice, I was so excited about using up the beans, lol. I kept thinking something was missing... So I had it again tonite with a pork chop. I did use minute rice!

Can't wait to hear about the sunchoke!

Our weather is absolutely gorgeous, probably the best ever in a while. It is supposed to get rather warm again, (think summer!). Rain maybe 10 days out? The house stays stuffy though it is nice outside!

Have a great Thurs.! Jan B)

    Hi
It was in the 50s this morning a change to the warmer from yesterdays temperature. I won't be walking today. long story for another day so I'm siting here drinking my coffee made with a store bought blend of Decaf & Regular coffee. The rest of today's coffee is in a Thermos Bottle From my Brother. Since I had added that to the unused portion of the previous can of coffee I'm going to call it 1/4 Decaf and 3/4 Regular Coffee. For ease of use when I open a can I pour it into the Big can I use to hold it.

    Have a Great Thursday

    Hi Jan
Congratulations on being under Your calorie goal Yesterday. See I do notice some things :)

Going to bed as late as 11PM would be unusual for me, I have been heading there around 10PM as I have been getting up before 6AM to go walking since the summer heat arrived, Now that Fall is here for real and not the Faux fall we had earlier I will be starting out later to catch the warmth of the Sunlight. Not that today is all that bright out and as it approaches 8AM the front porch is only running 53 degrees.

I hope Your dogs weren't to excited with the painters being there.

I think You can actually count not putting the rice in as a win?
Minute Rice, I actually Bought the ShopRite store brand quick rice to add a little to two of the NS dinners that are a little watery. Those are the Shelf Stable Sesame Ginger Chicken and the Santa Fe style chicken and then I never got around to doing it. There the poor thing sits unopened :)

The Sunchokes will be a while as they are still growing and adding Colorful fall flowers to the front yard and they need to be frosted before they get harvested, Hopefully that will not be for a while as there are still figs on the fig trees that are not ready to pick yet.

A Nice pork chop sounds delicious. I broke down last night and had Chinese Take out, Pork Lo-Mein, So-So or else my taste buds have changed, I had them put white rice instead of Pork Fried Rice in with it and 5 BBQ Spare Ribs. The Best tasting part was the Ribs, Sadly I ate the whole Dinner Special and today the scale is telling me I am retaining water which I already knew part way through the night based on other indicators. I believe most of it will be gone in a couple of days and Today will be the first of several days of the NS weight loss plan and not my modified Maintenance version of it :)

Can You open the Windows and Put in a Fan to air out the House?

    Enjoy the Great Weather

    Well Goodness!

    And Hello!

I can barely move today. I am looking forward to your long story (at some point) as your routine usually does not have such a change! I hope it is not too disturbing.

I have to do grits today. I am helping someone in a Grits contest that I was not too crazy about doing, except I like the woman who in helping and had asked me.. Of course, this was before the scheduled painting. My ankles are just killing me, and I hate stopping in the middle of putting my house together again, but, oh well....Sunday is my day to cook and bring for guest lunch at church. Did I mention this is a nightmare of planning? I keep saying it was worth the effort though for the painting to get done, if I just live thru about Tuesday. Monday is Chester's check-up. I feel as old as Methuselah. Mind-wise it is okay, my body is just rebelling! LOL!

I can air the house, and it helped. :)

Chinese always gets you! You have to, every now and then. But jump back on the wagon!

Thanks for noticing my pound. I am weighing today, as I have been too busy. We will see....

Hang in there. Stay warm. We are in the upper 80's and 60's at nite. Jan B)

This is the rest of Thursdays coffee that I need to Microwave since I went to the bank Yesterday and stopped at McDonalds for a large black coffee instead of heating the leftover coffee.

Forecast today for the 60s, warmer tomorrow and parts of NJ had a frost warning for the overnight Friday into Saturday morning. First one of those that I can remember for this season.

    Have a Great Weekend

    Hi Jan
I noticed a pound lost report from yesterday is that a different one, I'm guessing that is a new pound gone :)

It sounds as if You overdid the work in the house. I hope it passes quickly. My Knee is still bothering me and is puffed up with fluids. OTOH I slept better last night than the night before so things are getting better. I hope to start walking even if only a short distance in the very near future. Right now It is OK as far as pain either straight or bent, it is painful switching between them and takes a minute to subside. Such as when I get up from sitting and start walking.

Grits contest? That's a new one to me, Grits are a southern thing from my point of view. I have had them when traveling around the southern tier of the US and either I never got good ones or ???
Do You have a specific recipe for use in the contest or just winging it. I wonder how they would be if treated as my brother handles oatmeal. Real Vanilla Extract or Maple Syrup.
I know my brother would be searching the Internet for recipes to use as a base. Examples:
    http://www.foodnetwork.com/shows/throwdown-with-bobby-flay/600-series/shrimp-and-grits.html
    or
    http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ree-drummond/creamy-cheese-grits-recipe.html

We are headed into warmer weather for a few days with highs around 80, probably for the last time this year :( They are forecasting a colder winter than last year as well as Higher heating costs for Gas, Oil or Electric heat sadly.

After a large bump in weight, a lot of it Water weight I'm sure I was down a pound from yesterday morning this morning so the draining is starting :)

    Have a Nice Saturday

    Hi!
You are getting cooler up there. Not happening down here yet!

I am so sorry your knee is bothering you so much. It sounds really painful! It is a bummer when you are so used to walking and you can't do it, it really puts a crink in life, doesn't it. I hope you will feel better soon! Did you wrench it or did it just start aching?

I lived through the grits contest, yay! It is a southern thing. Good grits are good, lol! I made 170 little muffins with cheese, sausage and grits( replaces flour). My feet hurt and I am beyond help, lol! I could not eat another "grit" to save my soul! My favorite I tasted actually won, I was happy! I have used my entire day's calories with the contest. I had shrimp and cheese grits, crawfish and cheese grits, a fried grits fritter with a gumbo over it (my favorite that won), gouda cheese grits, fried shrimp and grits, a french toast grit fritter with maple syrup (good), Italian grits with mozzerella, pepper, onions (good too!), a fritter type with a pineapple and apple sage salsa over it (unusual and good!), cheese grits with salsa and taco chips (strangely good), and a stewed beef over grits that was good too. Others I cannot remember or duplicates with cheeses. The samples are small cup like dishes, but it sure added up.( You pay a dollar and can have as much as you want of anything). I can have salad tonite and that is it! :# We actually looked at those recipes you posted, lol!

Nap time for the puppies and me. I have to cook for church tonite. I sure hope you feel better soon!

New pound! Yours will come off- and I will remind you the Chinese was not as good except for the ribs! LOL!

    Take care, Jan B)

    Hi
It is 48 degrees this morning a change to the warmer from yesterdays temperature. I went walking today for 5149 steps. As I was walking I felt well enough to a little further than I had originally planned to go which was a Boomerang visit for Coffee and back home. :)

Forecast today for the Upper 60s, warmer tomorrow, parts of NJ had a frost warning for the overnight Friday into Saturday morning. I did not see any frost Saturday morning, however it must have been cold enough to kill off the Zucchini plants as they looked wilted Saturday Morning.

    Have a Great Sunday

    Hi Jan
As You surmised it has put a kink in my walking. Today was my first outing walking since Wednesday happened. I am hoping I do not feel it later and can get out tomorrow, That will have to wait until tomorrow morning when I get up to be determined :)
The knee is still somewhat puffed up but seems to have a little less puffiness each day.

The different Grits sound delicious too, I can see why You hit Your days calorie goal at the contest. Your muffins with cheese, sausage and grits sound good too, a variation on Sausage gravy & biscuits as far as I can determine unless You mean that the Cheese and Sausage were baked into the Muffins? Just curious what type of sausage? Breakfast, Italian Sweet or Hot Sausage etc. Pre Crumbled like some of the ones I see in the Supermarket?

You would have thought I would have remembered that the Chinese was not that good the last time I had some too, Except for the Egg Rolls :) Which My brother forgot came with My Dinner and had already started on when I muttered where is the Egg Roll :)
We are in line to have a Lunch or Dinner with friends next month at a Chinese Buffet, Date to be determined according to her schedule. The Buffet actually has lots of American dishes, Fish Dishes and Sushi....
This one, Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet:

Woman Vacuuming Gasoline Out Of Trunk Sparks Explosion
    http://1079ishot.com/woman-vacuuming-gasoline-out-of-trunk-sparks-explosion-video/
A woman thought that it would be a great idea to just vacuum the gasoline out of her truck. Well, it turned out to be a TERRIBLE idea.

The woman is seen in surveillance video vacuuming the gasoline out of her trunk, but what she did not take into consideration was what could happen as a result of. An explosion.

The vacuum at the car wash was destroyed and will cost $500 to repair. Luckily, no one was injured here.

Let’s just hope this young lady learned a lesson her and NEVER decides to vacuum gasoline out of anything again.

    Dumb Robber Alert :)
Warren hotel clerk who grabbed gun, stopped robbery says he was doing his job

Stunned hotel guests called 911 for help after a woman wearing a mask walked into the Victory Suites to demand cash.

But midnight desk clerk Alan Noel turned the tables on her. When she set the gun on the counter, Noel grabbed it.

    Hi!

I do feel like a Mac truck ran me over! I did hit 5000 and 6000 steps frequently! But I lived.

Glad you are on the mend and are able to walk reasonably well. The fact it feels good doing so seems a very good sign. I can believe the frost is coming, it was rather chilly this morning. I should be getting the shed ready for winter, but I need to work on the house. I have 3 whole days almost before I have to do something, so hopefully I will get a lot done.

We had a buffet in Montgomery that was very similar to your Hibatchi place. (Which sounds really good by the way!). It was the Grand Buffet. They were in business a while, then closed. The building has since been bought by a Mr. Chen's. They have authentic Chinese foods and American favorites as well. It is supposed to be really good, but I just have not made it there yet!

The muffins for the grits contest had the cheese baked into the muffins as well as the sausage. I just used regular Jimmy Dean sausage in the tube, cooked it up, let it cool, and crumbled it in the batter. The recipe called for much the same as a regular flour muffin, it just used grits instead. It also had the eggs, as well as salt and pepper, and of course I used extra cheese, a cheddar, Monterey Jack blend. Any various substitutions would be good , like different cheeses, chives, or different sausage flavors. The original recipe had bacon crumbled too, we did not use it to save money. I just do not want to have any for a while! lol!

I got a good laugh out of your stories you posted! At first I thought the woman was vacuuming her tank! I would hope I would have the presence of mind to realize vacuuming from the trunk was a bad idea also! How would you clean that up?....The robber putting down her gun was rather priceless also! Luckily no one was hurt in either case. They were lucky!

I need to really get on track here also. The guest lunch at church is always hard to resist, but it puts me back in trying to lose every time. I also hate to waste calories on something that did not turn out to be as good tasting as I thought it might be. My gout is acting up a little, probably from all the fried stuff and sausages. I am eating clean today! :)

Keep up the effort! I really want to break into that next 10 lbs.! Jan - It rained! 5/8 in. !!

    Hi Jan
I'm sorry to hear that You are feeling that way. Dang Mack Trucks :)

Part of what I do like about it is the huge variety, They even have Pizza :)

I think if I did not care for the taste I would be unhappy with a weight gain from it too.
It is possible that it is the sausage as a Gout attack can be triggered by certain foods an strangely enough to me by Diuretics...

    Hooray for getting rain
Thanks for the feedback on the Muffins

    Hi!

I have come to the conclusion all my diuretics are causing most of my foot pain. I can tell when I have eaten something I shouldn't for the gout and knew the sausage products would get me! But even when I eat right the pain is better but not gone. My pills for high B/P contain a diuretic, and that is twice a day, then I take another one besides. I hate you have a problem with them too, but it is nice to know I am not crazy! (at least in THAT regard!).

I went over my calories by just a few yesterday. I hate when that happens, I just did not plan well. But at least I am moving in the right direction! Again...lol!

I can't believe your warm up after the northerly frost. That is a recipe for people getting sick if they are not careful. It was downright chilly this am, in the 50's and damp. but will get into the mid 80's by afternoon. That is our fall in the south!

I did pick up some wonderful strawberries on Sunday. They were really good and tasted like when they really were in season. They were from California, so maybe they were, lol! I need to get out today for bananas and some apples and stamps which I keep forgetting to buy.

Old-timers....Don't overdue the walking and take care! Jan :) rain Thurs.?.....

    Hi Jan
Have You talked to the Doctor about the water pills and if there is something they can do to help. Constant pain is not good. Have You checked to see if You need the water pill?

At least it was only a few, it is when You go over by a a lot that it becomes a problem.

I like the warm up. I have turned off the heat again until it is needed, Yea to saving money :)

BTW I wonder if You can still get stamps at the grocery store, I remember when You could. Now I just go to the post office.
It looks like some from here: http://iwanttobuystamps.com/

    4 – Pharmacies. ...
    5 – An ATM. ...
    6 – Office Supplies. ...
    7 – Grocery Stores. ...
    8 – Amazon.
Maybe they were in season, I do not know how long the season runs.

    Have a Nice Day

    Hi!

I will have to check out your programs. I love something like that. Last of Summer Wine makes me nostalgic for Europe. Especially the old buildings, streets and cafes. I never made it to England, but they look similar. :)

We have some 40's for a low in the forecast. I need to work on my plants for winter storage.
Not today however. I need to go to the dreaded Walmart, (good for walking!), a Dr appt. and church. A busy day with the house on hold.

I do need to evaluate my meds with the Dr. I don't need so much of a diuretic I think.

I had no idea all those places have stamps. Actually I have been to the store 2x and forgot, and I have a little post office down the street about 7 minutes from home. I just keep forgetting! Too much on my mind. I have it on my list now, so hopefully...

Great job on your walking! I did not think you would recover so quickly!!

Take care! Keep up the good work!! Jan B) Record high of 92 yesterday.

    Hi Jan
You can find some of the episodes on YouTube, I used this link and You just need to look for ones that run around 29 minutes or longer, Some of the Christmas Specials ran over an hour.
    https://www.google.com/search?q=last+of+the+summer+wine&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8#q=last+of+the+summer+wine+youtube&tbm=vid
And this link found a lot of Dads Army episodes, look for the same type of lengths
    https://www.google.com/search?q=last+of+the+summer+wine&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8#tbm=vid&q=Dads+army+Youtube

We are headed into cooler weather here after today's record heats too.

You have a busy day today :)

Recovered, So So To Be Honest. I feel pain every time I get out of Bed throughout the night and first thing in the morning. It starts to pass after a couple of minutes however. I am still going up and down stairs slower too. However I am optimistic.

    Have a Nice Day
    Roger
