Triathlons, or single-sport races. What are you guys planning for the year?

For me:

Local bike race (road race) a couple weeks ago.
5k next weekend looking to set a new PR
Challenge Knoxville Half on May 17
Challenge Atlantic City Full-distance on June 28
Steelman Olympic (Quakertown PA) August 9
Challenge Pocono Olympic August 16
Challenge Maine Olympic August 30
Beach to Battleship Half (Wilmington NC) on October 25 (tentative)

Well all laid out like that it sounds like I have a really full season. Also, somehow the fact that my full-iron race is only 9 weeks away just hit me and now I am terrified...

Will likely add a couple 5k or 10k just for sh*ts and giggles, but so far this:

    * Down & Dirty Mother's Day 8k trail race (plus 2 mile mother/daughter race after)
    * Stillwater Half marathon on May 23
    * Stillwater Lift Bridge 10 miler on July 25
    * Gopher to Badger Half marathon on August 8 (maybe)
    * St. Croix Valley sprint tri on September 5
    * Centre sprint tri in mid-September (date uncertain)
    * Stillwater Log Run 10 miler on September 26
    * Willow River Trail Challenge 10k on October 3
    * Tyranena Half marathon on November 7

Only two little sprints planned because I need to conquer my open water fear over the summer. Also have lots of work to do on the bike....so why not sign up for a bunch of running events, right?

Quassy! Would have been on my list this year but its too close to Challenge AC.

I probably will throw in more short running races as they fit in (mostly after the full distance)

Mine isn't filled in yet, and I'm moving my tentatively planned half this weekend to next (officially signed up for the new one), because I'm sick and will hopefully be well. Filling in the rest of the summer is something I should do soon, but I have some work stuff up in the air.

    2015 Races
    3/14 - Get Lucky Half-Chicago (2:20 -- treated as a training run)
5/2 - Kenosha Half (will try to beat my PR)
5/16 - Galena Triathlon (seriously considering this as my first of the season, just a bit longer than a sprint)
    5/23 - Soldier Field 10-miler (for fun)
need to add in an Olympic length triathlon
7/19 - Racine Half Ironman (major race of the season)
8/30 - Batavia Half (did this last year, so it would be fun to repeat)

    Busy group. Here goes:
    • 5/3 - Du the Speedway Duathlon - This is such a fun race, on a road-course motor speedway that's about 1.75 miles. 1 lap running, 6 on the bike, then another lap running. I'll likely never ride a surface as smooth as this.
    • 5/31 - Local 5K. It's always fun to watch the high-school kids jackrabbit off the start and reel them in the first mile
    • 6/13 - Escape the Cape Sprint Triathlon
    • 7/3 - Finish at the 50 10K at Gillette Stadium - They also do a 5K, but it's entirely inside the stadium. More like a death march, so never mind!
    • 7/26 - Hockomock YMCA Sprint Triathlon - It's a local sprint tri, but it's one of our tri club's "team" races. It's always more fun to race with a bunch of familiar faces.
    • 8/2 - Triple Threat Challenge - This should be interesting: a 1-mile race, followed immediately by a 5K, followed immediately by a half marathon. It will be a challenge to pace this.
After these, I'm still debating whether to do a late-season tri or do a half marathon to end the season.

Yeesh. Lots of half and full iron distance races on the docket. Like some others here, I think, I can't even contemplate anything longer than a sprint until I get over my irrational behavior in the open water. Here's hoping, and happy racing!

I've never done a tri before - never really done much before. I've opted for 2 races which will kick my *kitten*. Both set in the mountains of North Wales (UK)

Slateman 17/May (thats less than a month away and I am crapping myself)
    http://snowdoniaslateman.com/

    and the snowman 27/Sept
    http://snowmantri.com/

    Both have a hard reputation

    - slateman has a 1K swim, 32 mile bike ride (2000 ft assent) and the run is 11K 1200 ft assent.
    - Snowman has 1K swim, 42 mile bike ride (4000 ft assent) and the run is a poxy 9K but its from the bottom to the top of a 2400ft of mountain and back:-)

Not sure which one makes me most nervous. Slateman is sold out but slateman has places - why not come along

Let's see: swimming in presumably frigid open water ... hideous climb on the bike leg ... hideous climb on the run followed by a quad-destroying descent. Oh, and it's on another continent. What's not to like?

    ;)

Still trying to figure out a couple of details, but so far...

    5/3 Earth Rock Run HM
    6/14 Greater Nashua Sprint Tri
7/19 Mill City Triathlon (this is still just a "probably" at the moment)
    9/13 Title 9 Sprint Tri
    10/12 Tufts 10k for women

October half marathon(s) - New England Half Marathon in Concord NH and/or Greenstride half marathon in Newburyport MA
Might throw in some local 5k's as well if the timing works out.

Obviously a fellow new englander
I've done escape the cape - pretty nice course. It just sucked that it was cold and rainy the year that I did it!
Finish at the 50 - done the 5k, done the 10k, got some pictures of the family running together - no need to ever do that again!

So far, my race calendar looks like:

5/3 Ct Fastrack 15k (Fast, flat busway route. Should be fun)
    6/20 Pat Griskus Olympic
    8/2 Niantic Bay Sprint
    8/16 Timberman 70.3

I only did 3 Sprint distance races last summer, so I'm curious to see how I hold up under the increased training load of the HIM training program. At 57 years old, staying injury free during training will be the key.

Those Welsh races look amazing. Quite a contrast to my first tri, which was in the nearly flat suburbs of Chicago.

I see a couple of other folks will be in Knoxville on the 17th too. Maybe we can meet up sometime.
    REV3 Challenge Knoxville HIM 5/17/15
    Roll into Spring Century 6/20/15
    Hospitality HWY Century 7/12/15
    Toughman AL HIM 8/15/15
    Wilson 100 9/12/15
    IM Chattanooga 9/27/15
    Halloween Half Marathon 11/1/15

I'd like to get an Olympic tri in somewhere, but it's still up for grabs.

Possibly starting school this year so I had to seriously scale it back....plus I added in my first 70.3. so....
    Caine Halter Sprint Tri 5/30/15
Iron Girl Tri (Sprint but nearly a sprinternational) 8/16/15
Dam Swim for Drew 2mi swim/4.4mi run 9/12/15
    Beach to Battleship 70.3 10/17/15
    Lexington Half Marathon 11/14/15

I might throw in an International Distance Tri in August that's local but we'll see how my schedule goes with school...

Glevinso...Beach to Battleship is on October 17th this year just in case you wanted to make sure its on your schedule correctly;) Also, not sure where you live but a lot of the hotels in the area are already booked...the ones downtown definitely are (I had to book back in December!)

Very jealous of people's schedules;) Can't wait until I get out of school (again) and can make a full season of it!

Yea thanks I just noticed that myself. Either way it is an October race. Last year I rented a condo in Wrightsville Beach pretty cheaply and it was a 5 minute walk to T1. I was able to secure that condo only a few weeks ahead of the race.

I didn't race that day but about half of my tri club was racing (both half and full) so I was there as a race sherpa. After everyone was off on the buses from T1 to Swim Start I went back to the condo, made some coffee, etc then made my way into Wilmington by car. Post-race I picked everyone up and drove them back to the condo.

This is one of the few contexts in which a training/race schedule that includes a half iron distance triathlon could be described as dialing it back a bit. Triathletes are weird. (In a good way.)

Lol... next year I am thinking of "dialing it back" and only racing Half and Oly. I think I have had just about enough of this full-distance bullstink...

Good luck with the competition. I tried copying the file into excel and it's not sorting right. Not sure if its just because its a PDF? It's got a reputation for being a tough race, so my age group is small.

Had to wait to get to europe to plan my season( thank god we didn't pay for the Rome Marathon cause we wouldn't have been able to do it!!!) done a few local 5ks
Really focused on the 3 day Bastogne Memorial ride in June (Next year is in Normandy!!!) then Transition to tri-season
Doing the Ironman European Championship 70.3 because it is in my new home town and it should be fun!!!! I may try to sneak in a 1/2 Marathon in the fall, looking for a european destination race....
Now that my wife is into doing more distance races and we no longer have the family built in baby sitters, we are really having to take turn on races...

Another B2B'er - just the aqua velo. I like that race (I've done the half), it's decent for family and friends to watch. and not get bored.

I'm just doing aqua velos this year, next year I'll master speed walking and do another IM (IMMD), my running days are done, but I'm not out.

So this year I've got (aqua velos for everything unless noted):
Kinetic half next week - have I trained? negative!
Air Force Bicycle Classic - sometime in June
Grand Fondo in Deep Creek, MD - end of June
Bike to the Beach end of July (100 miler fun thing)
2.4 Swim for Life in MD
    Savageman
    B2B

hoping that after next weekend I'll feel a bit more inspired to get focused for B2B and Savageman. Without the run I feel like I've got it easy..haha. Savageman, I swear if they could have figured out how to make the swim up hill they would have.

That's awesome! Its just me and my husband and my cousin-in-law and her husband who are going (me and my cousin-in-law are the ones in the tri) so we opted for hotel. Perhaps if I could get more of my friends interested next year I can get a condo. Beach would be nice for the post-race crash though;)

And Tri_Bob it truly is funny how strange triathletes are...only three races...psha...and to think only a couple years ago I was doing nothing (oh, and spending nothing as well, haha!)

Trying to revise my schedule/fill in some things. Decided to push my first tri to a closer one that is a little later, in part because I'm still adjusting to my clipless pedals, and in part because my weekend schedule at work is currently up in the air and I had to decide yesterday when registration closed whether to register or not. So:

    2015 Races
    3/14 - Get Lucky Half-Chicago (2:20 -- treated as a training run)
    5/2 - Wisconsin Half (2:04:56)
    5/23 - Soldier Field 10-miler (for fun)
5/24 - Bike the Drive (fun bike ride, not a race)
6/7 - Batavia Triathlon (sprint with extra short swim, not a plus, but oh, well)
6/20 - Railsplitter Tri (Olympic length)
7/19 - Racine Half Ironman (major race of the season)

I'd like to fill in a half marathon around the 4th of July (I'd like to break 2 hours), and am leaving what to do after the big race open for now.
