That's awesome. I'm jealous. My hubby wants a sheltie, but he plans to pay hundreds of dollars to buy and fly a puppy here. I don't like the idea at all. I like to pick my pups in person, not via the internet, and I don't like the thought of them flying alone. We aren't getting a dog at all until we get a house, though.
They can be great dogs, but some can be a little neurotic. Our last Sheltie was so needy that we got another dog to keep her entertained and take some of the burden off of us. That second dog turned out to be our favorite dog ever -- a Border Collie / Lab mix. All the smarts of a Border Collie with all of the affection of a Lab. The perfect dog.

My girl is also enjoying the new meats and fats in my diet. Usually she does not get much though because I eat it all!

Fur kids, sheesh this phone!!0

@wabmester She's beautiful! Raw meat? I've never known anyone who fed their dog a raw meat diet. Must be a good thing to do if you're doing it.0

My 16 year old Paleo Puppy has been a turkey & chicken-meat eating dog for all the years I've had her (14) rescued at 2 yrs from a cheap s*** neighbor who barely fed her any crappy dry food, kept her on a chain 24/7 and she had to crawl under a shed for shelter in the worst weather.
But the love is strong in this one……and I chose my profile pic caused it looked like her, attitude and all.
Paleo nutrition:
I used to buy 12* huge frozen turkeys during Nov. when the stores promote them very cheap…for .25 cents to 50 cents a pound…she & her pal got the turkey meat daily once I roasted it…and I know this is what has kept her so strong and RUNNING a mile+ a day 365 a year..she demands 2 walks a day…bless her heart. If I don't leave by 3pm she comes and "escorts" me to the car as a hint. She's slower now, but still strong due to real meat and some quality dry food. (*you need a big deep freezer) Shakari..the red rocket dog

I had a border collie lab mix once. She was so sweet!0 -
Here is our canine furbaby, ET (stray when hubby was working on an Effluent Treatment project and he showed up there, hence the "ET"). He is a 14 year old mix and has been the best dog. In the picture he is on the cats bed, lol! Don't have any pictures of the cat (Oscar) who is solid black, and is about the same age as the dog. So, we have a couple of senior animals now. I will be sad, but will know we have given them the best life we could.

I have three rescue Boston's (can you say "foster failure"?) two with no skin issues and the newest one with bad yeast issues. I would not have a problem with switching them from kibble to a homemade low carb diet but need some suggestions, as I am limited budget wise to even what my OWN food can be. What are some good combos I can fees three dogs? I had a friend that would do boiled hamburger, veggies and brown rice, but I think the rice would not work for my "issues" girl.0

Check out this website, it was my go to when I first stared raw for my 2 dogs.
http://www.rawdogranch.com
There should be calculator to figure out how much of what your dog should eat.
If you have any questions let me know. My dogs were 100% raw fed for almost 8 years.0 -
Adopt. Don't encourage breeding. GREAT dogs already available and needing homes. I have 2. Couldn't be happier.

@wabmester ...how's the new pup fitting in?0

She's been great. Very sweet dog, and she helps me stay active with lots of walks and an occasional jog. The only downside to a dog, IMO, is that they can make travel more difficult, but in our case the previous owner is willing to board her when we travel, so it's pretty much perfect for us.0

@wabmester, she is gorgeous, glad she found a home with you! @karlottap, ET looks like he's daring you to tell him he's too big for Oscar's bed LOL Great pics everyone, Love seeing everyones fur kids.0

Good to hear...she is a beauty and has such a sweet face. Having Gertie definitely gets me outside and active, which is great. I'm really lucky in the fact that I have friends & family who are always willing to take her on the rare occasion I need to travel...but without them, it would be quite difficult. At least you have a place that you trust that you can board her when need be and know she is in good hands.0

These are my kids, I actively show them and travel everywhere with them to shows.( Sorry, it's my retired life) and after losing my DH 3 years ago, they give me a reason to get up everyday and keep living
Gorgeous! I'm going to have a post of my APBT pup later. He's only 6 months old.

Gorgeous ! I love the really rich brindles !! My revues were brindle as were my first reg. dogs but they produced other colors in the few breedings I have done (3 in over 30 years LOL)0 -
@KaysKidz , Are those anatolian shepherds? So pretty...and PUPPIES...I want them all. How in the world did you end up with black/white? Seriously...I want them all
They are Anatolian Pyrenees cross. Both mom and dad carry a recessive black gene. Most have lightened, but I think 2 stayed black!

Really wish these boards had "like" buttons for threads like this! Such lovable dogs!0

I would wear out the "like" button if there were one. You guys know about oxytocin, right? It's the hormone that bonds mother and child. They recently discovered that both dogs and humans secrete oxytocin when they make eye contact. The theory is that that's how dogs became domesticated. They are literally our babies.0

I will have to try looking into Cinnamon's eyes the next time I am stressed or anxious to see if that works!0

A long time ago they showed that 15 minutes of cuddling petting your animal lowers the blood pressure. Yours AND theirs0

This is one of the few I have of our guy. Lost my computer recently with all the pictures. He's a labradoodle rescue. Almost gave up on him but now he's 3 and we're in agility and my friends can't believe it's the same dog.
He's on grain free kibble as well. He actually picked that out himself. As a pup it was the ONLY food he would eat. We've tried others and he doesn't like them really. Come the end of summer during ragweed season he will scratch himself sensless if he eats grains. Once a year I put him on a raw meat diet for about a month. The biggest thing we noticed was his teeth get blindingly white during that time!! He's 3 and the vet can't believe how bright white his teeth are! Not sure why but for whatever reason that month of raw just polishes up those choppers! Usually he gets pork and pumpkin or chick peas during that time. Otherwise he licks bowls of meat, gets his own steak from time to time and dad always brings chicken livers when he comes to visit! They do fill our lives with joy, don't they?
