What's up with Nuts!

I thought I had read that nuts were good snacks for LCHF. So while working in yard today grabbed a cheese string & 1/3c raw natural almonds for energy. Should have read package first. 1/3 c almonds was 12 (not a lot) and they had 19g carb! That's > 1carb/nut. That's a lot isn't it? Subtract 4 for fibre & still 15 net carbs. So obviously tried to do ZC rest of day to keep in the <16 g carb/day range. So wrong kind of nut? Wrong info? What? Had to sneak them in garage cause can't have them in house with allergic children. Suggestions?

Something seems off about that, an ounce of almonds(around 25 for me with the kirkland brand) has something like 8 carbs and 2 fiber. Even blue diamond smokehouse is similar.

Brazils have around 1 carb per nut as well. Cashews are dreadful. If I have nuts I will usually have 1 or 2 macadamias and a half walnut. It depends on your carb goal. If you're low, as I usually am (I aim for under 15) then they are a 'just a taste' food. It does seem odd doesn't it?

I hope you make it comfortably for the day under, or at, your goal.

@GrannyMayOz I was able to stay at 14g, but obviously will only have 3 at a time (if I have any), the extra carbs aren't worth the little satisfaction.
@sweetteadrinker2 they were Co-Op Gold raw natural & got my info from their nutrition label.

I had 10 raw almonds for breakfast and that was 2g carbs in total. Someone's numbers are off, but don't know if it's Co-op or MFP!

You may want to double check that count in mfp. I have come across some erroneous information when logging. Wish someone would remove the errors from the database!

Regardless of the accuracy of MFP's database or the label or whatever, I've found that nuts are usually not worth the tradeoff in terms of calories, carbs, and satiety.

Most people feel about nuts like kirkor does... of course, if you do find them worth the carbs and do find them satisfying, even decadently rich, like I do, eat them on occasion. A small amount of sunflower seeds is worth it to me sometimes. So are peanuts.

    Science says ... "go nuts!"

Almonds provide post-ingestive metabolic and appetitive benefits and did not increase the risk for weight gain. This suggests that almonds may be a healthful snack option.

Sometimes I have macadamia nuts for lunch. 100g makes a very satisfying meal that you can eat on the go or if you have failed to plan something else. It is a wee bit carby, but better than other fast food options.

5g carbs for 100g macadamia nuts....it's not too bad.

Also, please be sure to weigh for your serving size. Almonds come in a ton of different sizes, so what once may fill the cup is 12, another time it might be 20, due to size/shape, etc. So please weigh. It will help your sanity!!!

If 1/3 cup is 12 almonds, those are some honking huge almonds!! Just saying.

I find that research to be true in my case and I eat a few pounds of almonds weekly. A pound has 2560 calories of which 384 come from carbs but if you compute based on net carbs that drops down to 132 calories from carbs per pound. A pound of sugar with have more than twice that many carbs of example.

I should probably point out that that study was funded by the Almond Board of California, but the science looks solid. :)
