    I was a pretty hardcore chip-o-holic. I don't really miss them anymore.
Pork rinds really help fill that particular void for me. They are good with dips, too, like sour cream. Mmm...
Oh man. Now I wish I had sour cream because these pork rinds are sitting in the cabinet beckoning me!
And yeah, kale and seaweed chips are awesome, but I ate those before I went keto. I'll have to check the ones I used to have and see what the nutritional info is like.

Those were a double edged sword for me. I went years without anything chip-like because I didn't like pork rinds. I always thought they tasted burnt. The only way I'd use them was ground up as breadcrumbs. A few months ago, we found a new kind at a local grocery, and I actually like them. On one hand, I look at it as an extra protein boost, and I need any help I can get. On the other, I went a long time without snacking like that, so I'm having to work at not just grabbing a handful of them when I want, and try to stick to only using them to make things like nachos as a meal.

I just made some 'chips' for the first time using the oopsie bread recipe and flavoured popcorn salts - I used ketchup seasoning, and tossed my little round 'chips' in the seasoning and then dried them in the dehydrator. They are crispy and have that chip sort of taste and felt like a real snack. I haven't had many of them yet cuz I'm saving them for a games day this weekend, but my sample was very encouraging!
This is the recipe I used, but I made little round shapes instead of long cheetos.

@ AnginCanada........ Pepperoni chips have a good crunch if that's what your looking for, place a serving size on a paper towel and microwave for about 45 seconds or until crispy. Cheese crisps also have a good crunch, you make those by placing small amounts of cheese on parchment paper, and baking until crispy, you can add different seasoning too before you bake them.....

I have to say I shed a little tear. I am mourning to loss of some high carb items and thought a carb refeed would taste amazing right now lol.

Thanks for all of the help though. All of it makes sense!

Try a carb refeed if you wish. I did it last Thanksgiving after being <50 grams of carbs for two month. I gained 6 pounds over night and felt like crap for the next week.

Carb refeeds works better for the sellers of books on the subject. :)

I know I don't need it but I usually end up eating higher carb a couple days a month -- holidays, socializing or whatever. Which I enjoy and don't have any physical discomfort but each and every time I go off plan I need to be extremely mindful because two things will happen:

I will eat more calories than I normally do after a higher carb day and I'm more inclined to have another higher carb day shortly after. I mark it on the calendar with an X in highlighter as a visual reminder not to let an occasional indulgence turn into a relapse. And what I've noticed almost without fail is the X's on the calendar are clumped close together. It's not a conscious decision it's just what happens... just like being hungrier and eating more in general.

Which I figure it pretty much a textbook example of the slippery slope or carb creep. Be mindful.

I've come to the realization that if a carb refeer was optional, it would lead me RIGHT back into old habits. I did end up finding some pork rinds at 7-11 and they took away that crunch factor, but the taste was meh....so I'm satisfied.

Pork Rind nachos, more meal than snack, but you get the crunch and the pork rinds taste better.

Carbs may or may not be necessary athletically depending on your goals. Those doing explosive Olympic lifts, or runners who compete on the track or even up to HM probably have a need for some carbs to maximize performance. But the lower the intensity, the less need you have of them. Running long is necessarily a low intensity experience. It may not feel like it, but compared to the lung-searing pace of a 5K, it really is. I ran 20 miles yesterday with no carbs and it felt fine. This next week is a cycle down week (lower volume every 4th week), but then I will continue to build until I'm running 30 on Saturday and 20 on Sunday's. I don't have a race scheduled until October and it's a 100K. That ought to tell me a lot. Speaking of low intensity, I kind of burned my engine out a bit (over-training) and my aerobic capacity (as measured by a MAF test) suffered significantly. So my running is purposely very low intensity now. I try to keep my HR as close to 130bpm as possible without going over. Basically, 180 minus your age). The Maffetone method. I believe that there is more to training than doing this however. As one wag pointed out, we aren't "lungs with legs". But it's excellent for base-building. Then a few months out, work a lot more hills, intervals, track work, etc to get your speed ready for race-day without over-training.

Lastly, I'm no authority on this. I'm just a very slow older running trying something new and different. So far it's working well for me. I'm pragmatic about it. We are all an experiment of one and have to find what works for us. For example, I was a Vegan for 7 months. It just didn't work for me. So far, this seems to be giving my body more of what it needs. I'm really doing it for my health, but as a side benefit it may help my running as well. Good luck!

hysterical_2011.gif Oh, Goat, I'm dying over here...

My two cents. FWIW. I was stalled. I was 15lb to goal. And I did 2 rounds of carbNite (10 days apart). I transitioned ok after the first one (one day of mild fatigue) and lost a measly amount. A fraction of a pound. It did break the stall though. The second round...Holy Cannoli! For two days, despite good electrolytes, it felt like a VERY pissed off Wolverine was trapped with Sabertooth in my brain. So I've lost 3lb. Which is nice. I was supposed to do another refeed yesterday though, but I decided that I'll wait until my next epic stall, because yanking my fuel system around is NOT pleasant whatsoever. And I really have no desire to faceplant in sweets right now anyway regardless.

And I can't be sure that it wasn't a renewed obsession with logging that budged the scale anyway. Or my body just finally decided to let go of the weight independently of jerking my keto-adaptation around.

You could have a cheat if you want. But you haven't been in ketosis long enough to become fully adapted. And I would wait until I was 150% certain that I could go right back on-plan immediately after.

@baconslave I about snorted water out of my nose. Such an amazingly clear visual that is, Wolverine trapped with Sabertooth. That so epically described the level of he!! I sank to after one tiny bite of a croissant donut (I broke off the tip of the wrapped part). I swear, I dreamed about those things for a week, and any sniff of carbs set of my crazy insane FINDITNOW radar... This is definitely it...exactly. LMFAO
