No pool for another month.
Picked a new pair of hiking shoes. Technically they are called approach shoes. The soles are the stiffest I have ever found in a low cut. As still as many hard boots. This should help reduce flexing my toes on the walks to the office. But they are not "indoor friendly" as the sole are most definitely not 'non marking.' 5.10 is the brand.
They mark the floor with black streaks with no effort. So I'll have other sneakers for the office.

Timing sux because I'm just getting back to holding under a 1:50 per 100 interval for 2000 yards again. Getting close to holding it for a non stop 3000.
I'll just have to do more resistance band workout every day and other body weight exercises.

Have a safe trip. You know when you get back that it won't take long to shake the rust off & pick up where you're leaving off....

Your Company needs to up there Health and Fitness program and get there Travelling specialists into Private clubs/pools. Nothing improves a persons Mental/Physical health better than being able to maintain their Fitness routine. You will get back into the grove fairly fast once you get back.
I think I know the shoes that you picked up. The only downside to them is that you can quickly wear the tread off of them ( that's where the black marks come from )

Not a chance. The CEO is too cheap to pay for pool access in Hangzhou. He was okay with Shanghai because it was cheap and close to the office. The only pool he was willing to cover in Hangzhou is at a college and only open to the public 2 hours a day and is still full of students and people with flotation devices.

Just found out I'll be in Hangzhou. So lots of walking again. My feet are just recovering from the last month in China. Hopefully the new stiffer hiking shoes help this time.

    Is biking an option?

No. Besides, I'd have to ride for hours to burn what I do in an hour of walking. They have the cheap "forever bikes" that I could use if I got a card. But they are small and sized for the typical Chinese. They would do more harm than good since the size would strain my knees.
I bought a pair of very stiff hiking shoes. Walked 4 miles with them yesterday. Not bad at all.

Blisters. Some day somebody will design a shoe or socks that prevent all blisters.
But I still walk. Hurts my feet. But it is better than doing nothing.
Did some hiking in Westlake. It is a park in Hangzhou. Part of the trails go into some hills and for a little while I can escape the city. I hate cities. Just not a city person at all.
Almost half way through this trip. I miss the smell of chlorine in the morning.

Lol. I hate blisters too! Thankfully I only get them from the gym and not the pool
But I get rashes from the pool instead. The universe has a way of balancing everything out. Whatever you do, wherever you are you get your fair share of the good and the bad

When you are back home stop at a Shoe Store that specializes in Running Shoes ( Running Room in Canada ) or Backpacking ( Mountain Equipment Co-op ) and explain that you are looking for a Dry Wicking Sock . I just did the Peace River Heritage Run 10 Km on Sunday ( 1:00:25 a PB by 11 minutes = 6.2 mph ) and not a hint of a blister due to the great wicking socks I have.

Also you can try the old Double Socks trick, Dry-Wicking inner and Light Weight Smart wool outer. The Smart Wools come in designs that can look like a good dress sock so they can pass as Business Attire.

Another thing you can look for is an item in the Foot Care Section of most Drug Stores/Pharmacies called Moleskin. Its like a stretchy bandage without the pad, that you cut to size to fit over the area you normally get Blisters on. For Backpacking I have to put this on the Achilles area of my Heels and on top my foot by my Pinky Toe. Probably impossible to find in China.

Turns out double socking was contributing to the problem. Single socked on the way back to the apartment. It was more comfortable.
Blisters on the corner of the heel are resolved by replacing the original inserts with aftermarket more of a heel cup that is curved to form with the heel rather than flat.
Smartwool PhD socks are great. I also like the under amour socks.
So it may just be a matter of noting which shoes do better single vs double.
Blisters are not nearly as bad this trip as the last one as I learn something each trip that reduces them. Maybe by the next trip I'll be at zero blisters. :)

A brief period of escape from the city. I really don't like cities. Even less when they are is a place where I can't drive, can't swim, can't go anywhere or do anything that the government or company management doesn't approve.

Well, it looks like you snuck away somehow, lol. That's an incredible view! You must feel a bit like a child over there. Mom and Dad won't let you out on your own :(

Exactly. That is why it feels a bit like being in prison.
Made an adjustment to my routine. Walking was really getting to my feet. Climbing stairs actually doesn't bother me that much. Doesn't bend my toes nearly as much. And less joint stress from compensating.
Yesterday started taking the bus instead of walking. Then doing a lot more stairs.
About 115 flights yesterday. 126 so far today.
Gets my heart rate up much higher than walking. More sweat though and no shower in the building for employees. So my colleagues have to put up with a near locker room perfume from me :)
A new office manager said she try to find me a pool that is not a splash pool. That would be nice.
I miss the 2 hour meditation.
But at least the bigger endorphin hit from more stair climbing seems to have improved my overall mood. Along with less foot pain at the end of the day so it doesn't kill me to walk to the market for food after work.

Oh my goodness! That is a lot of stairs. My wife would pass out just reading that. She complains about one (1) flight of stairs

My stair course is this. Office os on the 20th of 25 floors.
When I arrive in the morning, walk up to 25 then back down to 20. Drop off my pack, rest a few minutes, the walk up to 25, down to one, back up to 25, then back down to 20. This makes a 29 floor circuit. 2 times. Then around 10:30 Up to 25, down to one, up to 25 back to 20, wipes off sweat. Hang wet town in front of fan to share the sweaty smell and dry the towel.
11:30, up to 25, down to 1, back up to 2 for lunch. Back up to 25, down to 20. End of day, up to 25 then down and out to the bus stop.
So 29x4 for the day. More if I get a burst of energy for another set.
I am finding that I feel better with this than walking. Less foot stress. More leg work. And a lot more sweat. And it has seemed to help my mood too.

    Oh ......My........Good.........Ness...........
Hey and what your calling a 29 floor circuit seems a lot more than 29 floors!
    Either way, that is IN..........SANE........!!
And that is all the motivation I needed to go to the pool. Off for my swim...

Oh my gosh. My knees hurt just thinking about all that stair climbing.
Maybe the office manager will hurry up with finding a pool because of your new... perfume. :)

Climbing the John Hancock tower in Boston is 94 flights. So I guess I top that. But I do take a break between 29 flight sets.
The 29 comes from 24 (from 1 to 25) plus another 5 when I go back up from 20 to 25 before going back down to 1.
Rumor is the offices are moving down to the 4th within the next year. That will only change the starting point. Assuming I haven't gotten tire of this traveling crap and gone for a job with no travel. The only travel I did at my previous job was one trip up to Boston. And that was a treat because I stayed with my brother and his family for the week and got to go train at my old school. That was before I was medically retired from training.

So when you count 29 flights of stairs that includes the way up and down, the same way you count laps in the pool as one being there and back?

Yes. Up and down. I even worked up a spread sheet to calculate the vertical climb. :) Approximately 1380 vertical feet.

Next trip, they are getting me a pool membership. The CEO finally got the message that I really do need it. So do his other employees. This way I can get to work nice and clean, not stinky sweaty all day :) And not cranky from the pain in my feet. Ha.
It helped that my direct manager from the US was here this trip too and saw the way I limp around the apartment every night.

So that is 232 flights of stairs (per day) by my count (ie going one way)!
Can't get my mind round that - two...hundred...and...thirty...two (said with Homer Simpson's voice) LOL!

    I'm BAAAAACK! again.
I think the sweaty in the office helped push the pool issue. Next trip, one of the office managers is taking me to a pool to sign up. :) Sometimes passive aggressive works.
