I have been on LC starting Jan this year and came across this woe while searching for a way to manage my T2 diabetes. While my weight wan't a problem, it took me 10-12 years in relating carbs to blood sugar. Lol. (I always focused on sugar value on labels and didn't have much luck). I mostly eat veggies and dairy nowadays and find that it is difficult to over eat on these. My carbs are around 60-80g/day, way high compared to many here, but seem to work for my goals.
So far I have been counting calories meticulously in mfp. with my weight 3-4 lbs lower than where I want to be, I am planning to just focus on what I eat for a few weeks and not how much. Of course, I intend to weigh daily. Let's see where it takes me.
How are you doing now with the Diabetes? Are your blood glucose levels lower? Are you taking meds to control your Diabetes?

Blog #13 DittoDan's Milestone's, First's And Good Changes Since Starting the Ketogenic Diet
Hi Dan,
Over the last few months, my fasting sugars have leveled off to a range between 80-95. During the same time, I reduced my Metformin from 1500mg to 500mg. My A1C during eary May lab work was 5.8 (down from 7.8 in Aug 2014). Overall, this is the first time in last decade I have seen this good a FBG number.
I realize that lowering my carb intake to <80 is key to keeping blood sugar levels normal. I do very well when I eat at home or carry my lunch to work. Eating out creates problems though. Restaurant food stays a challenge. Today I went out for lunch, and my PP after three hours was 152 .
I have documented my initial few months on LC at below blog.

btw, I read through your blogs and they were very helpful in keeping me on track during initial few weeks, until I started seeing the results.0 -
Hi all, I'm Mary, 35 years old, 5' 8-1/2", back in the game of trying to lose weight healthfully since 5/18. I had my third child last July, and the baby weight just wouldn't come off with out a concerted effort. Since December 2014, my life and my family's life has been a series of stressful life changes, mostly positive, but the stress kept me from getting serious about re-establishing healthy habits. Things are finally settling down. My body was hurting from the excess weight, especially my feet. Walking on hard floors with a heavy baby, I got a mean case of plantar fasciitis.
I started out this time at 194 lbs, doing a moderately low carb CICO. Within a couple of weeks I had veered back toward a LCHF way of eating, while reading Gary Taubes' Why We Get Fat and Volek and Phinney's The Art and Science of Low-Carbohydrate Living. I lost weight quickly in the beginning, which I attribute to being post-baby weight, water weight, stress weight. I'm now just back from a 9-day vacation, and am hovering around 175 lbs. I've lost at least one size all over. I was right on the cusp between plus-sized and regular sized clothes. Now I'm firmly in the regular sized stores again, which is a thrill!
I've realized through reading lots of posts within this group and beyond that I've assumed for a long time that I could never weigh less than 150 lbs, because I've weighed at least that much since I was a teenager. Through reading others' posts about their weight loss stories, and finding some early successes, I'm starting to believe that I could shoot for a lower weight and body fat percentage. 150 lbs, based on the BMI calculation for my height, is a BMI of 22.5.
150 lbs is my goal weight for now, and I'd love to see it by this time next year. More importantly, though, I want to keep up eating and exercise habits that keep me healthy, happy, and pain-free, to the extent possible. I want to model healthy habits for my kids.
My oldest child has mild epilepsy, so I have a special interest in lower-carb diets for her to help curb her seizures. It would be very hard for her to cut carbs down to the Keto range at her age, but we have seen a definite improvement after carefully restricting her sugar intake. She seems to be slowly making the connection herself, and I am so happy that my family is getting on board with our low-sugar approach for her. She's still on preventive medication, but has had a significant drop in the number of seizures, and is only taking half her daily dose of meds now.
I love this board! Thanks to all the veterans for the great support so far. :-)0 -
Hi all, I'm Darlene, 41 yo wife and mom of 3. I am also the child and sibling of insulin dependent obese family members. Stood by my mom after her triple bypass surgery 2.5 years ago, tried helping her manage her out of control diabetes and am continually frustrated by it all. I currently weigh 189 lbs after getting down to my "goal weight" of 165 and "goal size" of 10 on LCHF/Keto a few months ago...didn't take long for it to come back. The latest 10 I gained in a record setting 5 day span while visiting old friends in Texas...what a wonderful time, but between the BBQ and Mexican food and my telling myself "well, I am on vacation" I really did myself and my health a disservice. At this age, shouldn't I know better?
I don't ever want to be insulin dependent, so that is my main motivator. However, when I am fully keto-adapted I love the independence it gives me from hunger and habit eating. I just have to constantly be vigilant of my alcohol on keto, as that is usually the turning point (a second glass of wine or needing an iced cold beer) that starts me down the slippery slope.
I have decided to rededicate myself to the LCHF lifestyle and am on day 2 of my keto eating plan. It's so yummy and delicious and I know the really best thing for me.

Plantar fasciitis (self-diagnosed) is one of my motivators too. My feet started hurting when I was pregnant with my third baby. It got better after the pregnancy, but during my fourth pregnancy it came back with a vengeance and never went away. I kept thinking if I could just lose this weight I'd be fine. That's one of the reasons I started getting serious about losing weight.0 -
Hello. I'm Suzanne. 26 years old.
I was introduced to South Beach Diet when an OBGYN and hormone specialist recommended it when I was just 15 years old (200lbs); It wasn't definitive, but symptoms showed I had insulin resistance, and possibly PCOS (I ended up not having this). After starting South Beach at 15, I gained it back again. Tried low-carb again in college and lost 15lbs, but gained it back again.
In 2013 I lost 30lbs on Atkins, which I still can't believe. Well I started indulging a little more, then a little more and didn't see a change in the scale so thought I would be okay eating junk again, and gained 20lbs back. Dumb.
My new big goal is to be 150, with mini-goals of 10lbs. I'm great at sticking with 25-30g carbs Monday through Friday, and then the weekend hits.... Going out to restaurants, or bars, or out with friends who spontaneously want ice cream are my downfall. Not to mention my giant sweet tooth and attack cravings. I've been focusing mainly on these weakness and planning accordingly. My motivation is that I'm moving back to my hometown after 3 years away. A lot of friends/acquaintances have not seen me under 200lbs so I would love to go back looking like a new (healthy) woman.
I know low carb is my lifestyle when I stick to it, and I know you guys will be a big help. Feel free to add me as a friend.0 -
Hi everyone. My name is Erika.43 yrs old.I never had any weight issues until I was 29 and came off birth control. My weight started piling on and health went into the toilet.I gained 65 pounds in 5 months.I was a full time university student at the time and found some of my work suffering.I went to my doctor who diagnosed me with PCOS and insulin resistance.I was in school taking things like physiology and pathophysiology so I researched and went on a low carb ketogenic diet and lost all of the weight in about 10 months. All PCOS issues and insulin problems vanished.
Fast forward through my 30s, where I had 3 more kids(i have 4- 20,11,8,3) and gained weight again between my last two kids and over the last pregnancy.....I sit at 219 right now, and am back eating keto style.I never had a resurgence of the PCOS problems despite regaining weight, but definitely some insulin resistance.
There are a few great things I have found about keto...it sensitizes my body to insulin.I may not stay eating this way for my whole weight loss journey, but I know from experience that it makes me feel So.Much.Better!
I have a host of allergies, among them wheat, corn, barley,teff.... which makes vlc a great choice.
I notice that inflammation of all kinds in my body is greatly lowered in ketosis.I love how my seasonal allergies are only a fraction of what they normally are
So, yeah, anyways...I have a lot of weight to lose but I have done it once before and know I can.its a day to day thing
I dont think of goals...only of today's choices.0 -
