    That'll be useful.

200 cal is big drop. What does it say your sleeping calorie burn per min is now compared to last week?

Just checked Thurs last week and Thurs this week.... .8-.9 both days. That does not appear to have changed.

    Weird?

Appears next week should finish the story.
Been walking out in this late summer heat we have now after delayed spring rains?

No. I awl outside only once a week and early. Usuall in in the treadmill in the ac. It has been humid.

But my clothes don't fit and I am visibly bigger so some of it is fat gain anyway. I know that.

You think I should stay at 2800 another week or walk it back to 2600?

Maybe some other numbers might be helpful to see (for me, too).

I spent most of this year (and last) hovering around 184-186lbs .....cals about 1700 ish.... I dropped down to 179.6 after 3 weeks of 1200. Then I started my reset.

Week 1 Cals 2027 (up from 3 weeks of 1200) 7 lb gain.( 186.6) No bodymedia worn
Week 2 cals 2654 stayed the same weight (186.6) . No bodymedia worn
Week 3 cals 2931 Up 1 lb (TOM week 187.6) Body media avg cals burned 2667
Week 4 cals 2809 Up 2.2 lbs( 190 ) Body media avg cals burned 2379

I'd say hit whatever the Bodymedia is saying right now, though limited data to really decide if accurate enough.

But probably good place to sit for awhile.

Week of 1 lb gain, I know other reasons obviously for it - but also approaching 500 cal surplus.
Week of 2 lb gain, could be delayed reasons or others - but closer to that 500 cal surplus.

Would suggest following the BMF daily if you can adjust daily eating goals - or start getting rolling 3 week average TDEE from it, and set next week to that value.

Thank you retire. I appreciate it.

And heybales thanks. I'm thinking 2500 this week should be about avg burn. Will update next week.

And the way it's slightly blurred - like a sand cat in the woods out slinking around, stalking it's prey. I couldn't think of another striped cat, you sure don't want to be the zebra in this case.

So more data for you just FYI re bodymedia.....

Fridays are usually all the same....lift, go to the dump, work, and night job.....yesterday, I took off from lifting so I have numbers to compare since the other things were the same...just for datas sake.

July 3rd with lifting 2713 Yesterday with no lifting 2585

So lifting burns 128 cals?? LOL I'm sure that's the inaccurate part not even counting what happens after the session is over.

Depends on how much time - that could be decently close for 30 min time for just normal lifting style, 2-4 min rests between sets.
Tad low for circuit training with up to 1 min rests.

And if there is cardio warmup/cooldown that happens too - ya, that's too low then.

About an hour and 20 mins. 2 warm up sets for the big exercises (bench, squat, etc). 5 working sets. Right now I'm doing 2 min rest sets because I'm putting up Pr's for me for some exercises(curled Barbell 55...for 3 sets of 8...I need 2 mins recovery there). Squats aren't my max yet but working sets of 100 and bench is 90 for working sets....plus some others. I'm running icecream fitness 5x5 with added glute work (2 exercises added each day).

Week 5 data coming up ...weigh in is at 9.

    Okay!!! Update. Lost 2.8

Week 1 Cals 2027 (up from 3 weeks of 1200) 7 lb gain. No bodymedia worn
Week 2 cals 2654 stayed the same . No bodymedia worn
Week 3 cals 2931 Up 1 lb (TOM week) Body media avg cals burned 2667
Week 4 cals 2809 up 2.2 lbs Body media avg cals burned 2379
Week 5 cals 2757 -2.8 body media avg cals burned 2395

However....I'm +.6 from the beginning so I'm thinking that's a good amount here. Right?

Sounds like it, willing to adjust for days that have big change of activity compared to prior weeks.
Like totally missing a workout like that again, eat tad less that day.

Good results. And look at all the calories that could be eaten to get you to that point. Wootwoot!!

    Thanks, retire!

And heybales...i didn't miss a workout just switched days that week (I usually lift Mon wed fri but that week I did mon wed sat). So i was just comparing Fridays because other than that it's always the exact same day.

I am, however, switching programs to strong curves from icecream fitness. I'm thinking since it's less of a strength program that I should down regulate eating. Thoughts anyone familiar with it?

Week 2 cals 2654 stayed the same . No bodymedia worn
Week 3 cals 2931 Up 1 lb (TOM week) Body media avg cals burned 2667
Week 4 cals 2809 up 2.2 lbs Body media avg cals burned 2379
Week 5 cals 2757 -2.8 body media avg cals burned 2395

    UPDATE

    Week 6 cals 2973 +2.2 body media burned 2683

It was my birthday Monday and I had a couple of celebrations and birthday chocolates. LOL Technically I should have only gained less than a pound (290 surplus per day x 7 days = 2030 cals over TDEE).

Target cals this week is 2500 with 1 or 2 high days seems to be my thing so avg will be about 2700. Will report back next week.

Oh...additionally....I switched my workout to Strong Curves which is lighter volume than ICF that I was doing...so plan this week is to add a bit to the Strong Curves template.

Also, question....how long do you guys think I need to wear the armband before I get an accurate estimate to use for TDEE without wearing it forever?
  • heybales
    heybales Posts: 18,842 Member
It seemed like 3-4 weeks was good for it to adjust sensors to you.

Then just have to be aware of seasonable changes to your activity if not wearing it.
As long as rest of routine is the same - should be good.

Meaning you increase intensity as needed when it starts to be easier, so you are burning the same calories as weight drops.

Right. Gotcha. I mostly don't mind wearing it and I like the data. If I'm going to the beach I slip it off in the car and stick it back on when I get back....I'm mostly sedentary at the beach so I don't think it matters to adjust it at all for that.

Re 2.2 lb weight gain....TOM came 3 days early (usually 28 day cycle this was 25). This happened the last time (in Feb) that I was eating more calories and resetting. Why do you think that is? I never was so low in cals that I had any problems or interruptions with my cycle and was 28 days like clock work. I'm only 42 and no signs of perimenopause.... Just curious if anyone knows.

    Good morning! Back from Newport....data.

Week 1 Cals 2027 (up from 3 weeks of 1200) 7 lb gain. No bodymedia worn
Week 2 cals 2654 stayed the same . No bodymedia worn
Week 3 cals 2931 Up 1 lb (TOM week) Body media avg cals burned 2667
Week 4 cals 2809 up 2.2 lbs Body media avg cals burned 2379
Week 5 cals 2757 -2.8 body media avg cals burned 2395
Week 6 cals 2973 +2.2 body media burned 2683 (TOM CAME 5 DAYS early)

    NEW>>>>>>Week 7 cals ONly 4 days data 2728 + 2 lbs burned ONLY 4 days data 2748<<<<<<<<<<<<

So vacation in there screwed up the data since I didn't track. However we walked 5 miles both days and I ate very sensible. It was hot and humid. I am thinking that isn't real weight gain.

Plan is 2600 this week as it's a hugely busy week at work.

Thank you! I'm just plugging along. LOL I keep going over my TDEE I think by a smidge but eh. It's all good. As l long as I'm resetting. I'll figure it out. I'll keep updating, too! I searched for these updates when I was beginning. I didn't just want to read the "I lost 4 lbs when I started eating more" since I knew there was more to it than that.

    Week 8 cals 2508 -.2 bodymedia burned 2574

So some other things to note...Before reset and just CC

    Jan weight was 178.6
    Feb weight was 183.6
    March weight was 184
    April weight was 188.4
    may weight was 184

Memorial day hit 190 (just big cookout?)

then did 3 weeks of 1200 and got to 178
then it went up to 179 ?
then first week reset was 186.6
    2nd week 186.6
    3rd week 187.8

Sounds about right for whatever that average routine ended up being.
