I take spells where I drink wine, but I usually overdrink so I binge about once a month.
It does cause me to put on 2 to 4 pounds
that I have to work off afterwards.
Some days I figure it isn't worth it, but then I'll have a good day and figure I can handle it.
Enjoying our little travel trailer makes my wine binges taste so good.

Liquors seem to have no effect on ketosis for me but I notice with wine I tend to slow down on weight loss and bloat up. Probably the quantity :-O

In your experience, how much of slow down alcohol can have on weight loss process? Have you folks experimented and compared weight loss progress with and without alcohol diet if the carbs intake remains the same?

    I don't drink much, but I google a lot. :)

    http://www.builtlean.com/2012/11/26/alcohol-weight-loss/

After your first drink, your body starts to get rid of the alcohol quickly using the alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) pathway.1 In this pathway, ADH converts the alcohol into acetaldehyde, which gets further broken down to acetate. These by-products (acetaldehyde and acetate) are considered to be highly reactive and can increase oxidation throughout the body, but especially in the liver.

Because your body sees these by-products as dangerous, it wants to use them as fuel. This means your body will significantly blunt fat-burning close to 75% after just one and a half drinks.2 And it will stop using carbs for energy. Therefore, although very little alcohol will be stored as fat (less than 5%), the fat and carbs you are eating have an increased risk of being stored as fat.

My impression is that it can boost ketones, but not in a good way. It can also cause some temporary weight loss via dehydration.

Everything was back to normal in one to two weeks, provided I didn't have any more wine. Worth it for me though, gotta take time to enjoy some good drinks and good times!

One to two weeks? What came to normal? Your prealcohol weight? Or rate of weight loss?

Both. Was retaining water and weight loss stalled

I'm with the general consensus, it takes much less than it did before! Just be careful with it! It can lead to some terrible food choices sometimes too, by inhibiting those inhibitions! Extra for thought: stay off MFP when consuming alcohol. It can make one post some weird stuff, that makes no sense (refer to late May on the group forum). Left me feeling foolish, but everyone was great about it. Amazing Support here with NO judgement!

I'm not a big drinker myself and never have been. I typically tend to drink 15 or less alcoholic drinks per year IF that...but...since switching over to a LCHF lifestyle I find that even though I crave a drink now and then I just can't do it. Every time I think about having a drink I also get to thinking about how I've worked so hard at this and that I don't want to be kicked out of nutritonal ketosis for a silly drink! It's been over a year and I haven't had a single drink. I'm over 2/3rds of the way to my final goal. Once I reach that goal, then and only then will I allow myself to indulge in the occasional drink and not worry about getting knocked out of ketosis.

HAHA -stay off MFP when consuming alcohol. - LOL. Luv U Karlotta :) Good advice to put your cell phone away, stay off all social media, remove all electronic devices until the next day.

Two or three 6 oz. glasses of wine one night, throws me off for 5 days. No weight loss during those days. I typically average .6-.8 lbs. loss a week, if I drink during the week I seem to plateau. I found the after effects are much worse, feeling tired and dehydrated. Formerly, I had a nightly cocktail, now for the last 5 months I've curbed alcohol to once a month, if even. Just not worth it with all the other work I've been doing to get to goal.

I have learned the hard way that when I try to drink like I used to, it results in what I call "walking black outs"...not fun not remembering pockets or whole sections of an evening. So I have to learn to really pace myself, especially since I tend to drink hard liquor on the rocks (whiskey, bourbon, tequila). I try to make sure that I'm putting down a glass of water between drinks.

I've also learned that lately drinking has lead to poor eating choices either the same night...or the next day when I'm recovering.
