Okay, took a walk and got 40 active minutes only 54 minutes of fat burning today but that's due to all the time spent in the kitchen and on the couch reading my recipe book
Finished the day with a good deficit though
How did you do?

Well, I can tell you that I walked an hour at the mall today, but I can't report the activity minutes because the BodyMedia site is not loading again. The site has had problems on four days during the past week. Hopefully, I moved quickly enough to get the full 60 minutes.
I looked at the Fitbits in a sporting goods store today. They had the Surge, and the Flex that you could try on, but did not have the Charge HR. The two they had felt cumbersome. I guess I would get used to them, but I actually prefer something on my upper arm since I rarely go sleeveless anyway. But if BodyMedia is going to let the site go downhill, I may have to accept that I'll have to get used to having something on my wrist.
Light, you mentioned that your weight can vary by 5 pounds in a day. I'm finding that mine can vary at least 4, and that I tend to weigh more when I first get up than I do later in the morning. Go figure.
I'm not sure about my deficit since I can't upload, but I think I'm good for today, and yesterday was great. I hit more than 11,000 steps! I got behind a couple who were walking and keeping a good pace, and so I just concentrated on staying behind them. It made the time go fast!
Well, I have to be up at 4 a.m. tomorrow to leave at 5 a.m. to go put up and staff the exhibit. Wish me luck, ladies. I dreamed last night that I forgot to go, so I'm wondering if my brain will let me sleep tonight0 -
Good luck tomorrow And good for you for getting that mall walk in As a nurse, I've always had to wear a watch on my wrist so the Surge doesn't bother me at all and doesn't feel too big even though I have a small wrist. I'm pleased with the features and would deal with the size even if it were a bit bigger. Sorry the BB site has been down for you so often.
I have spent the entire weekend cooking and cleaning the kitchen. No activity showing today and it actually is telling me I've only made 6 minutes of fat burning time so in spite of the need to head on to bed, I'm going to put in minutes on the exercise bike. Wish it could be more... but since I get up at 5a, it's all I can spare. Tomorrow will be another tough day... like so many others we've had this month. I'll be glad when we get back to full staffing again but then the other nurse has turned in her resignation so we'll be a good while interviewing, hiring and training with me picking up her position until then... she's hanging in there now because she doesn't want to leave us short when we have already out. But it looks like it's going to be tough as we approach the holidays and really sick times for the kids. It is what it is and talking about it doesn't change anything... just delays my getting on the bike and then to bed.
Hope everyone else has done well this weekend and will be able to say they have logged some activity.

I SURVIVED!!!!! yep. First trail run race of the season completed at 1h 36m. had a hiccup at mile 1.75 and almost turned around. Had asthma/possibly anxiety issue. After looking at my splits post race, it was just an indicator I was pushing too hard at the beginning. Mile One was 16.39. I stopped and took a couple of puffs on the inhaler and rested. Decided to push forward just a bit more and discovered if I hiked it, it was fine. Miles 2-5 were 21:03, 22:06 (serious uphill section), 20:03 and 19:57. Not bad splits at all for walking - but darn I want better times for next month's race. Taking today off as my back slipped out again during the race so that also contributed to the no running towards the end.
Oh and we absolutely GORGEOUS weather for the race. Cloudy sky and 72-75. Oh man was it nice to get a break from the triple digits. We had rain north of the trail where I live, but it was done and gone before I got home.
I did prepare some baked chicken for the week and uber happy I pushed myself Friday night to hit Costco late and grab my salads. I'm ready for the week.
Awesome job ladies on all of the effort and focus we are all doing to get in the additional activities!!!
Sarah....order a Charge HR! come on, we have lots of fun and it feels like a watch.
0 -
yeah Lois All that has to count in your challenge and good that you have your foods ready. Sorry your back went out again though... need to be careful not to cause permanent issue...
I'm off to get my activity. Got word today that one of the gals that has been out will be out at least another month... sigh... looks like this is what I'll be doing every night to get the activity in...0 -
Awesome job Lois!! You're inspiring
I had a busy weekend, with Sunday spent at the cabin where there is no internet connection with 5 hours 13 minutes fat burning, but 0 active minutes doing work there. Saturday I had 71 active minutes, With 3 hours 4 minutes in fat burning. Had pretty good deficits each day.
Sarah, how was your conference? Great mall walking!
Light, not having enough help at work is so frustrating. I hope the hiring / training goes quickly so that you aren't continuously over-worked.0 -
Hi, ladies. Well 4 a.m. came early, but I got to the hotel by 6, got the exhibit up by 7, and then spent a lot of day standing on my feet. I didn't wear my bodymedia, but I assume that I burned more calories today than I normally do in a workday sitting at a desk. Traffic was terrible coming home and I had to stop to buy packing tape, so it was close to 7 when I made it home. Then I had to get on the computer to check work and home e-mail and print some items I need for the exhibit tomorrow. By the time I got dinner (some of the vegetable beef soup I made on Saturday, so healthy and fairly low calorie), I was too pooped to walk. It's odd that after less than 5 hours sleep and an out of the ordinary day, I am still awake at 11:30 p.m. One more day of this, and back to teleworking. My concern now is that Fed Ex doesn't mess up picking up our exhibit stuff, as they did for the last show that I staffed. It used to be that was the one company I didn't worry about, but today, just scheduling a pick-up was difficult. I ended up speaking to three people, and I felt like I was either dealing with new people who didn't know their system or else people for whom English is difficult.
I am hoping that my mall walking buddy will not back again tomorrow. We were supposed to walk last Tuesday, but she called at the last minute and said she didn't feel well. I know I'll be tired tomorrow, but I hope that she's able to meet me because that will get me there. And then the next day is weigh in!
Lois, thanks so much for sharing the pics on this site so I don't miss out. I am so glad that you were able to participate. You rock, my friend!

Awesome activity from everyone - Sarah - standing on your feet all day - kuddos to you and your vegetable soup sounds divine!! I pushed myself to go to my TRX class last night, if only to stretch. I pushed myself a bit, but not overdone. Fitibit is not showing any active minutes, but I did get strength training and stretching in. Then when I got home, I used my pool as an ice bath again. OH that felt soooo good - even though I only lasted 5 mins. I had a protein shake on the way to class, followed by 1/2 avocado and almost 1/4 cup of almond trail mix and some hummus. I sat on the couch to watch a show...and i don't even remember what show. Fitbit says I slept from 8-9:48 (when hubby woke me up) and back to sleep from 10-6 this morning. Getting up at 515 on Sunday really messed with me...haha. Sarah - I have no idea how you did a 4 am or how anyone survives getting up at 5am. UGH.
Light I hope you're staffing gets under control soon.
Sheesh - cabin time without internet actually sounds nice!
Ok ..have to prepare for meetings.
Have a great day!!!0 -
Hi, Ladies. Today, I got to sleep until 5 a.m. since I didn't have set up today. Instead, today I got to do the tear down, and I decided to schlep the boxes to Fed Ex myself so I'd know they were there. I got home about about 5:15 and I am soooo tired. I am just not used to commuting and standing (though I did get to attend a couple of workshops today and was able to sit in one of them.)
I haven't heard from my walking friend, and I think I'm just going to pass on the mall tonight. If I feel better after I get some food in me, I may walk outside. It has been a beautiful fall day here (sunny and in the 70's). Too bad that I was inside much of it, but thank goodness this exhibit area was in a hallway with huge windows and glass doors going out to a great big balcony, so I did get to see the sun and breathe some fresh air.
It will be interesting to see what I weigh tomorrow. My weight has been everywhere from the 143's to the 146's this past week.
Lois, I don't know how you work and do all you do. Light, hang in there. I know about those busy times coupled with fewer staff! And Sheesh, I suspect you were working hard, too, to get that cabin ready for winter.
Take care everyone.0 -
gosh it doesn't look like I posted any activity, only my intent to do so... well, I put in my time and I want credit for it, LOL Sunday- 32 active minutes with a total of 37 min fat burn
Monday-39 active minutes with a total of 56 fat burn minutes and
today managed to get out for a walk at lunch and stopped to walk the bridge on the way home, giving me a total of 72 active minutes, representing 23 min of cardio and 51 min of fat burn I did good, LOL Food good, too, according to plan
Sheesh, too bad with all that cleaning, none of it counted as activity, but you sure did get a good fat burning day That has to count for something, huh? And no bees this time, right?
Sarah, sounds like you had 2 pretty tiring days and I bet you are glad to have it done and over. Hope you will be able to get some time for yourself in the next couple days, and get some activity in again. Do you have an alternative plan for when you can't get out to walk?
Lois, after your big day, your recovery day sounds well spent. LOL about falling asleep on the couch.
Well, that's it for me for now... have a couple things to do before falling into bed. I feel good having gotten the activity in before getting home today0 -
Monday, 30 active mins, did weights too.
Tuesday, I was too sore from cabin work and weights to work out. Hubby and I went to a movie. Sometimes what I need most is recovery. Glad you took your day too, Lois.
Today, will do treadmill with intervals.
Sarah, sounds like a tiring, but successful exhibit for your job. I hope your walking buddy is as committed as you are. If not, go it alone.
Light, you are rocking the activity!
Heading over to weigh-in thread.

Well...I got my 10k steps in for the day and 19 active minutes yesterday. Still having my own challenges, but I'm getting the steps in. I have my group workout tonight and tomorrow I have a tooth extraction and implant being done. Don't think I'll be reporting anything further until Saturday. Hoping Friday is a good day and I can at least get into the office. Keep moving!!!
Sheesh - Great notes..and I agree with all you said for everyone!0 -
did well again today with getting out for a walk at lunch...if we can keep the heat and rain out of the forecast, maybe I can make this a regular event like I did before... we'll see
34 active minutes today with51 minutes of fat burn.
Lois, hope all goes well at the dentist tomorrow
0 -
Lois, my sympathy is with you for your dental work tomorrow.
Light, good job working activity into your busy schedule.
I had a really good workout today, logged food.0 -
Today is the day...it's 8am, the procedure starts at 4 and I'm already nervous!!! UGH I HATE the dentist (even if he is cute). Couch, bed, ice packs and KFC mashed taters are all ready for me when I get home (and pain stuff as well).
Last night, I was late to my group work out - but I did make it! I also ensured I got in my 10k steps.
Light so happy you are getting in YOUR time! It is so important
Sheesh - great job
Sarah????
Thanks for all of the well wishes, sorry I'm not a bit more inspirational this morning. Have a great day and KEEP ON MOVING!!!!0 -
I'm here, I'm here!! Lois, I hope all goes well. When I had posts inserted for an implant years ago where I'm congenitally missing a tooth (actually, nature shorted me by five), it was much less painful than I anticipated. I hope you also do well.
Sheesh, I seldom get hubby's company on walks for the same reasons--pain and he's one of those high metabolism people who will probably never be very much overweight (little tummy now--he says his chest fell when he turned 50 and his butt migrated to the same spot when he hit 60)! But a new medication is giving him some relief, so he says he is going to join me when he can. We'll see.
We didn't get out yesterday until almost dark because of work and a call from my sister. So we only did 45 minutes, but at least we did that. I was still tired last night from the two rugged days before, but after a couple of good nights' sleep, I hope to get back on track.
Light, 72 minutes on a busy workday is awesome! And I know what you mean about routine. If I can just get myself going for long enough for something to become part of my schedule, I seem to do okay. But once I break that routine for one of my "good reasons," it's hard to fit something in again.
I actually ended up with excess calories yesterday despite my walk and eating healthy for most of the day. I fell off the wagon with some Cheez-its last night. In spite of that, my weight this morning was less than yesterday, which goes to show that my aim has to be to continue lowering the lowering range.

I'm so proud of you ladies . . keeping on keeping on with activity in spite of busy jobs, family, dental issues, etc.! (Take care Lois!!) We rock
Today, I'm in the kitchen pretty much. Making some freezable dinners to take to California for the new baby's birth. This will hopefully make it easier taking caring of them. . at least a few nights of not having to cook from scratch.
Yesterday, I had a really good workout:
Over 13,000 steps
90 active minutes, with 11 peak HR minutes, 52 cardio, 3 hr 31 mins fat burn. (I did intervals)
Today, I plan to walk to try to get 30 minutes in addition to kitchen cooking time.0 -
Yesterday went a lot better than the day before. I had 55 active minutes and a deficit of more than 500.
Wow, Sheesh. More than 13,000 steps and 90 active minutes is terrific. And I don't know about you, but when I am working in the house and on my feet in the kitchen, my burn tends to be pretty good those days, too. Good idea to fix meals head. Sounds like you're planning to drive to CA, since I can't picture you boarding a plane with a cooler.
Lois, hope everything went well yesterday. Let us know how you're doing. And Light, my friend--we've almost made it to the weekend.
The weather is cloudy and mild today, so I hope to get out during lunch for a walk, as I did yesterday. Since I have commitments in the evening on Thursday and Friday, it's hard to get a activity in after work.
Will check back later.0 -
Sarah, you're right about kitchen activity. . and making casseroles, not a lot of munching while I cooked I got over 12,000 steps (I did a little walking on the treadmill too), 75 active minutes, 0 peak, 11 mins cardio, 4 hr 45 mins in fat burn. Had a deficit of 500 cal, although that is probably high due to some tasting and licking of fingers, ha ha! We are driving to Cali, staying overnight in Reno because I can't do the whole drive in one shot like my son does. I would prefer to fly, but we want our car there, and hubby may drive back early if he starts to get in the way I would then fly one way back home. Cooler with dry ice, which we've done many times . . . hubby takes salmon from his Alaska trip to lots of friends and family.
And, good deficit and activity for you, my friend! Let's keep this up . . we'll be "63 and hot as can be" in no time!
Lois, thinking of you . . .
Light, hope you're still pushing for a little time for yourself every day! I see that you're logging food diligently!0 -
Forgot to mention that from her Facebook posts, it looks like Kelly is having the time of her life in Europe! I see Cheryl on Facebook, but I miss her posts here! Cheryl, come back!!!!0
-
well, the last 2 days didn't go the way I had planned... yesterday was busy and hot so I didn't get out to walk at lunch time. I was late getting home and made the mistake of sitting down and the next thing I knew, a puzzle and couple hours later, it was past my bedtime and I hadn't done any activity/exercise. I totally blew it...
But, today is another day, so I decided I would stop on the way home and walk the causeway. It was a bit cloudy but the rain looked distant enough to warrant a try, so off I went... got 10 min cardio and 1 hr 37 min fatburn which included 77 active minutes. Grand total of 11,658 steps, too, Whoohoo! All the steps and extra time was not actually planned, though. I took my walk and got back to the car only to realize that I had the office keys in my pocket instead of the car key. Bummer! I called my roadside service and walked round and round the parking lot until my feet just couldn't take it any longer and then found a bench to finish waiting for the service truck to arrive. But I got enough exercise in for yesterday and today
Sheesh, you had a couple really great days there. I'll be doing my kitchen day tomorrow and will think about you and the new baby to be while doing it.
Sarah, good that you are hanging in there with the challenge
Hope Lois is doing better....0 -
Oh, my goodness, Light! You probably needed the rest on Thursday. Sometimes our bodies just force us to do what we need. And I'm glad you got in extra activity--77 active minutes is great. But the key thing! Oh, can I relate. One cold winter night I went to the mall to walk and when I returned to my car I discovered that I had put the key to our other car in my pocket. I always lock my purse in the car so I didn't have a phone. It was almost closing time, but fortunately, I was still able to get back in and a clerk in Penney's let me borrow her cell phone to call hubby. Sometimes when I'm walking, he'll put in ear buds and listen to music so he can't hear a phone. I was so lucky that night because it was like 10 degrees and I had yoga pants, a t-shirt, and a light weight hoodie since it's often warm in the mall.
I did pretty good this week with activity, but wasn't able to walk last night. I had one hour between work and my evening commitment--just enough time to drive up to the mall (it was raining) and get in about 40 minutes of walking. But just as I was heading to the door, our former next-door neighbors that we love like family drove up. They had just closed on their house and they dropped by to see us while down this way.
So I'll be putting in extra activity today and tomorrow to make up for that. I'm happy that my walking buddy also sent me an e-mail yesterday and we have plans to meet at the mall at 7 p.m. on Monday.
Lois, I'm sending you good thoughts, and I hope that you're doing okay.
Sheesh, I love the "63 and hot as can be!" It sounds like you're getting in lots of steps in advance of your drive. I know what you mean about those long drives. It was about a 10 hour drive to my Mom's. When we were younger, we'd make the drive and jump out ready to go. In recent years, we'd be absolutely dead on our feet by the time we got there.
Will check in again later. Have a great Saturday, everyone.0 -
Yesterday (Friday) = 9,387 steps. I don't know why I didn't just get up and get the full 10,000! Duh. I guess I need the Fitbit challenges to get my butt across the finish line. We'll have to do another when Lois is back in fighting shape and Kelly is back from Europe. Heartrate: 0 peak, 13 cardio, 5 hr. 5 mins fat burn. I lifted some weights too. I'm trying to do a full body weight routine on Mondays and Fridays.
Light, oh boy, I can relate also. Keys being locked in the car is my favorite thing to do, or so my hubby says. I always lock the car with the inside door lock button . . . but it's amazing how often I jump out with the keys still in the ignition! I'm glad I have AAA. They know me. I love puzzles, crosswords, sudoku, jigsaw . . but they can really waste the time, can't they? I have a jigsaw puzzle app on my iPad . .it's nice while driving to Cali.
Lois, hope you're doing okay.
Sarah, I am trying to get activity in before Cali (we leave a week from Monday.) I don't know how long I'll be there. Reason 1: Fitness . . . taking care of a 3 year old and helping with a new baby is demanding and I'm not used to it.
Reason 2: Keep my weight down heading into fall, winter and all the holidays.
Wish me luck. .

yesterday I ended up with 1 hr, 9 fat burning minutes, of which 55 were considered active My weekend has been all mixed up since the key fiasco on Friday night. Missed getting the groceries on the way home so went out and got them yesterday morning so that I'd be able to do my cooking for the week. Finishing up laundry now but took some time to work on a quilt after church this afternoon. All in all, a nice weekend in spite (or maybe because of) the change of routine. It's kinda nice to know I'm not the only one who manages to lock the keys in the car... and I was being so careful to make sure I took them with me, too, LOL. Need to pay more attention. Just glad that I have email on my phone and happened to have a Geico email in it so I had access to the roadside service. Whew!~ Sarah, I think I remember when that happened to you...
Sheesh, I hope that your trip will be uneventful. Like Sarah, I have noticed the long trips seem a bit more tiresome than they used to be. I used to take 16 hr drives from here to Va with my kids to visit my mom and still make the 8-10 hr (depends on the time of year) between here and Atlanta to visit with my mom and sis but have found that I am soooo ready to be done after about 6 hrs. Of course it's just me now and I think that makes a difference, too, without the company in the car. Glad your husband will be going with you. You're down to the last remaining days of thinking "what else do I need to bring with me" and "do I really need that?" LOL
Well, need to get the last few things done before falling into bed. Hope everyone will rest well tonight and get lots of activity tomorrow Looks like tomorrow is going to be another dry day so I will plan to walk the causeway again on the way home, but this time I plan to take the CAR key with me LOL... always stick my phone in the pocket.0 -
Well ladies. I HATE THE DENTIST!! I can't say that enough. Not him personally just his profession. Haha genetically I have horrible teeth. But I do everything possible to keep them healthy. The tooth under the cap cracked (of course it did). However. The darn roots didn't want to come out. So dig em out he did. Then I urged him to proceed with the posts for the implants. SUPER OWIE on top of the additional pain from extraction. So I'm a wuss and have been taking the pain pills all day Friday and sat eve. Probably take a half tonight. Wake up every four hours to throbbing pain. Ugh. HOWEVER today I really pushed myself and I prepared protein bowls and the avocado lime chicken soup. And some eggs for the week. On softer foods for the next month or so. Thinking of meals to make that fit my plan. Hoping to get on track. You ladies are inspiring with the activity but I will be honest it makes my gum throb when I do too much. Better everyday though!!0
-
Light, I also had a nice weekend, but with very little activity.. my youngest had a birthday, and we celebrated with her and her boyfriend. Also, I'm spending too much time watching baseball and football games on TV! Today, back on track with 66 active minutes, 5 min peak, 18 cardio, 2 hr 36 fat burn. Food intake over the weekend wasn't good . .
Lois, feel better.0 -
Hi, Ladies,
It's after midnight, and I can't believe I not in bed, but I'm headed there soon. I was able to do a little over the past three days to make up for the lack of activity on Friday. On Saturday I had 59 active minutes and 8,054 steps, on Sunday 95 active minutes and 11,890 steps, and today (which was a holiday for those of serving the feds), I had 128 minutes and 15,674 steps. I'm not sure if my active minutes equate with Fitbit's. Mine were all "moderate activity" by BodyMedia standards. I seldom ever get any "vigorous activity" unless I jog, and with my retinal tear, that's supposed to be a no-no for me (though sometimes I do it for a short time--one must occasionally live dangerously).
I'm not sure about deficits yet, as some of my meals are logged in MFP and some in BodyMedia. The BodyMedia site is still having problems.
Lois, I was so glad to see that you're alive and kicking. What an ordeal you've been through. I grew up without fluoride (well water) and I don't think we got the kind of dental care kids get now, so I'm in that dental chair a lot more than I'd like, too. Hope you continue to heal and that you're soon pain free.
Well, I'm getting that" too tired to think" feeling, so off to bed I go.0 -
OK...So I got in 5,414 steps!! That is up from the 800 and 1300 from previous days! No active minutes but I'm alive and moving a bit! I will take it.
Sheesh - I've been on the couch watching TV way too much also (though I really can't recall what I've watched...lol) And I SLEPT through and totally forgot about the Patriots/Cowboys game on Sunday...So out of it!
Worked all day yesterday with Advil/Tylenol every 2 hours. Son and daughter in law stopped to visit last night on their way back home. Stayed the night so we were visiting quite a bit. My mouth was KILLLING me. Finally took 1/2 pain pill and ice pack and just listened to them and shook my head whenever they'd ask me a question. It was great to see them, but darn it hurts to chat and visit.
So happy to see everyone getting in some activity. Depending on how today goes, I may hit the trail for a super easy walk with my adopted daughter. My trail running training partner doesnt want to hike this week. Not that I can go full tilt but it was kind of sad when she said no. Anyhoo, we'll see how I'm feeling at 3 and make the decision at that point.
Sarah - awesome job at continuing to get in more steps.
Light - I've missed you and so happy to see you on the board again and spurring everyone!!! It's awesome.

Lois, I'm glad to hear that you're doing better and I hope you're soon totally out of pain.
Light, I hope that the fact that you haven't posted in a couple of days does not mean that work has gotten more intense.
For second day in a row (yeah!), my walking buddy met me at the mall, and since we have a lot to talk about to catch up, we ended up walking 102 minutes last night for 10,681 steps. I haven't weighed yet, and if I go by feel, I haven't lost much if anything, but at least I'm getting back into the habit of moving, thanks to this challenge.
Today will be a bit of struggle because I have my weekly call at 6 p.m. with my friend and my walking buddy does church on Wednesday nights. I hope I can get out during the workday for a walk outside before the temps fall, but that's always catch as catch can.0 -
Good activity everyone!
Mine has slowed unfortunately. I played golf yesterday, but took a cart. . My bag is too heavy to carry. It's been beautiful weather here. Today I had to get my hair done (3 hrs), and I got a mani / pedi. All ready to be in Cali for a while.
Lois, you're on the mend now. Hang in there.
Sarah, great activity! I hope you get a Fitbit so we can include you in some challenges there.
Light, hope your work hours aren't taking over.0 -
Lois, good to see that you are at least doing well enough to start talking about getting up and about, even for a little bit. Nice thing about a message board is your fingers do the talking
Sarah, good that you are getting back out for your walks again too. Don't let not having a walking buddy be an excuse for not getting your daily active minutes in. If that were a valid excuse, I would never log any.
This has been a tough week so far and I'm really making an effort to get the activity in which means I get home late, take what time I need to log foods and go to bed. It's my bedtime now and I'm tired but felt bad I hadn't checked in here the last few days. There should be a week 3 thread but I never had the time to start it. Anyways...
Sat 55 active min, 1 hr 9 fat burn minutes
Sun 45 activemin, 1 hr 4 min fat burn
Mon 52 active min, 1 hr 15 fat burn min
Tues 18 min fat burn min, no active min as I was beat and went to bed when I got home
today (Wed) is taing forever to download and I'm not sure I'm going to wait any longer. I can tell you I did an hour walk across the causeway, though and have a total of 9733 steps so it ought to be a good reading when it finally syncs...
but for now, let me wish all pleasant dreams and an active day tomorrow0
