Grass-fed, organic is suggested. It has more vitamins and a favorable omega 3 to omega 6 ratio.

Kerrygold grassfed butter is available in most Walmarts now, and I would assume other organic, grass-fed butters would be available in the health food and organic grocers these days.

You **can** use any butter in the coffee, but the most benefits and nutrients come from any of the butters that appear naturally "golden" and not "white" as most US butters.

Do you have a grocery outlet? Mine stocks shannon gold, which is grassfed and cheaper than kerry gold. I used tillamook for a long time though, it's probably the best quality butter you're going to get without going grassfed.

Here in Houston I've found kerrygold at most of the major grocery stores, including WalMart and Kroger. (My husband keeps telling me Kroger is too expensive, but I am a creature of habit, and I like my fuel points!)

I have trouble finding Kerry gold too. I have gotten it before but the stores that are most convenient for me don't have it. So I usually try to get one that is organic or that says pastured cows and if I can't find one, I have used land o lakes and even store brand in a pinch.
  • I have found kerrygold at Walmart and target in indiana. Ask them to carry it.

The bj's I'm a member of in Raleigh carries kerrygold, and I'm pretty sure I've seen it in either wal mart or Kroger around here as well, though that's a more recent development.

I finally picked up some Kerrygold brand at Wal Mart yesterday! It's definitely the rave I've heard about! I do use what's available from my local grocers mostly since my Wal-Mart trips only come about every six weeks (too darn far away from me!). I don't use it in my coffee though. My coffee only has hwc added (personal preference). I haven't actually trip d a bpc though. I drink my coffee iced and didn't think the coconut oil, or butter, would be good in that state. Do like the kerrygold though! Is worth the extra cost imo!

I buy the Kerrygold just for me. Yeah, I know I should spread the wealth and health to my family, but I consider it my indulgence because of the cost. I tell hubby HANDS OFF MY BUTTER! :) One day I went to slice off a neat little tablespoon of it, and I discovered he had touched (and taken some of) my Kerrygold. I was so mad! I told him he can have my butter when he starts eating right. Until then, he can use the 99-cent store brand butter to add to his nasty white bread. LOL

@Mami1976D, I'm considering that myself! I don't want my precious Kerrville going on toast! When hubby gets home he learn that he has a new butter dish, just for him!

I just saw Kerrygold in my local HEB yesterday! Is bpc really better with it? I've just used coconut oil in the past.

Haha.....I do this. I went shopping and pointed out to my husband what was only MINE! Yea...if he wants to eat healthy with me he can have it but until then...hands off! lol
I just bought this butter yesterday. I have yet to try it in my coffee yet. It kind of freaks me out...do you use sweetener as well?

Some people do, some people don't. I use a sugar-free vanilla or hazelnut syrup I found at TJ Maxx

I drink keto-coffee. I don't use "Bulletproof Coffee" brand. So sometimes I just call it Kevlar-Coffee. It's just run of the mill Folgers.
I drink with CO and half and half (instead of HWC right now since I'm trying to keep the calories down). No butter. I did NOT like the butter in it when I tried it the one time. *shuddering* But lots of folks obviously love it. I also used to use some Torani SF choc syrup in mine. But one serving has one carb and I think the aceK in it messes with me, so I just use a few drops of liquid sucralose (0 carbs) and occasionally a tsp of cocoa powder or pumpkin pie spice.

Blending it in makes a nice frothy top. This also happens without butter and just HWC too. Lately I've been adding the butter because I actually think the extra fat in the morning has been helping my appetite control more, but I mostly just used CO and HWC with sugar free syrup the last 6 months.
Here's how I make it and what it looks like. I think sometimes people think it looks like a gross oily mess floating in the coffee or something. But it's just like a nice coffee house latte.

Butter in my coffee sounds horrible to me also but it seems like a lot of people like it! I do however love the sound of trying coconut oil. I'll be trying it soon

I had this aversion at first.... it's mostly psychological. At the end of the day, all it is is dairy fat. No different from cream or any other high fat dairy product.

I have never done the "official " recipe. I use a good dark roast, 15 ml of unrefined coconut oil and about the same of butter, brew my coffee, throw it in a large mug, toss it in the microwave for abt 30 second, then all the ingredients in my old cheapie blender, fire it up on high till it's good and frothy, and - voila!

The guy is a good marketer, and God bless capitalism and innovation, but absolutely no reason to buy a 'branded' deal for your bpc.

I'd like to try the actual bulletproof coffee once. I don't think my palate is that refined, though, and my wallet is averse to paying that much for coffee.

I just use Seattle's Best Number 4 or Starbucks... Folgers when I'm poor, LOL. Refined coconut oil (the unrefined makes my throat tickle and alters the flavor in a way I don't appreciate). Grass-fed butter is so much better, taste-wise, than the cheap stuff. But the coconut oil gives me energy (I've never tried the MCT oil) and the butter keeps me satiated until lunch. I do not add anything else to mine, but I'm normally a black coffee kind of girl, so I don't need the sweetness. When I feel like indulging, I might add a little unsweetened cocoa powder or cinnamon, heavy whipping cream, and powdered stevia, but the rest of the time it's just coconut oil and butter.

Another vote for Kerrygold if you're buying from a store. I get local grass-fed butter and it's yummilicious.

Hubby once had some of my butter and I told him, "When you start eating better, you can have better condiments." He went keto 2 weeks later. Behold, the power of yummy butter.

Despite my best efforts, I've been unable to stomach bulletproof, kevlar, or other types of armored coffee. J swears by it but I just can't do it.

I don't buy the bulletproof brand either. Just stealing the name. But now I think we need to start using @2Poufs names instead. Tomorrow I will try Kevlar Coffee! Lol
I am on a kick to try all kinds of new coffees. I just bought some Seattle's Best #4 today. I hope I like it. I have found I really like Starbucks espresso roast as well as Gevalia's espresso roast and I got some of a store brand near where I live that is not a chain store that was amazing. It was on sale and as I was looking at all the varieties some lady swoops in and cleans out the shelf of one particular kind. Then I immediately wanted that one! I found it in small sample bags, so I got one and I know why she bought the last 4 bags now.

When I was thinking of trying this new way of eating my main concern was how to take my coffee? Then I read about this whole butter in my coffee and at first it sounded strange but this whole diet is totally different from anything I have tried before. I love drinking coffee especially in the cold months, and I am glad I can still enjoy it!

Bulletproof coffee recipe is coffee plus 1 tbsp butter plus 1 tbsp MCT oil (highly refined and concentrated coconut oil). The recipe was invented by a guy named Dave Asprey, who basically bastardized Himalayan yak butter tea. To make it the 'real' bulletproof coffee you need to use Asprey's branded coffee and MCT oil, which I wouldn't recommend, as they are ridiculously expensive. Basically, get coffee of choice, best quality organic butter you can find, and coconut butter, MCT or otherwise. Put desired quantities of fat into the coffee. Blend well, with a hand held blender or a nutribullet, or anything similar. You basically don't want chunks of butter in your coffee.
    Enjoy.

Remember, too, that you want to start slowly on doses with coconut oil and MCT oil if you aren't used to it. It can necessitate sprinting to the restroom!

But part of the benefit is a nice jump start on appetite control for the day and a boost of ketones to get the brain up and running first thing in the morning or whenever you need it.
