Ketogenic Works

Ketogenic continues to work for me. No slips because: 1. I am seriously committed. 2. My labs are scientific proof this is working. 3. Friends who "slip" say it makes them feel sick" 4. I love not craving chocolate and other things like ice cream and donuts. 5. It is working, slowly and steadily!

I am now 65 and after nearly two years I can say Ketogenic Works well for me too. Last month I was not keto (but still low carb) most of the time by intent and just in that period of time I could see some regression so I hopped back into nutritional ketosis.5

60, 13 months, 100+ lbs down, all the benefits of ketosis that we know and love. I am a keto lifer by choice - I believe it saved my life. I'm a bit to my goal weight, 30 lbs or so, but will probably remain keto even afterwards both for the benefits and because I'm an addict of sorts and need the appetite and craving control it provides.
Plus dementia scares me, and cancer lurks, and the increasing evidence of the specific benefits in those areas of ketogenic eating keeps me focused.

Keto works for me too. I'm a 68 yo woman. I lost 20 lbs, fell off the wagon and gained back 6.
The best part of keto diet is that all my arthritis-like symptoms disappeared. I'm more energetic and sharper witted. I had a cancer health scare and stupidly regressed to adding back flour and sugar (thus the gain). Beside the fact I was constantly worried, I felt stiff and awful.
I'm back in ketosis now and feel infinitely better. Plus the biopsy came back benign. Older women can lose on this.
I have friends who constantly bemoan their weight, its so easy to gain as you get older. They asked how I lost - I told them. They tell me that they can't give up fruit, bread or something else carb laden. Even with the fruit you can add in in moderation, they have a million excuses. Oh well, there is such a thing as free will. Its all in the choices we make.6 -

@SueMizzou52...I once heard a person say, "It's easier to get someone to change their religion than it is to get them to change their diet" and unfortunately, most of the time I've found this to be true. Those of us who have had a scary health or medical driven wake-up call and have listened to our bodies and take the appropriate action find it easier to make what for many is a drastic lifestyle change but we do it by choice and willingly at that because we've already seen the kind of damage we are doing to ourselves and we also better understand long-term health and life improvements because of such a change.4 -
I feel that what we choose to eat is our own business. If I see someone choosing sweet tea and chicken and dumplings, I keep my mouth SHUT! And I would appreciate the same consideration from them.3

@kmn118....I agree with you 100% and I follow the same tactic. I never comment on what other people eat. It's just a good rule of thumb to follow.2 -
Am down some pounds --maybe about 12 or so but i was wearing a size 8 and am now likely a 4--so ppl notice and ask, "How did you lose weight"..i never say KETO or Low Carb, i just go---i've cut out the whites.
The person invariably says "oh yea, that will do it--no sugar and no flour" so they KNOW keto works, they ALL already know but... unless they can back off of sugar, sweets, bread to excess, not sure anything will change.
I've had a few friends say "i can't live without pasta"....my feeling is "pasta, who cares"...am eating out 6 to 8 times a week and this woe is very EZ.4 -
I've been on LCHF for well over a year now. My first priority was to improve my metabolic syndrome. And I did! I also lost quite a bit of weight, even though BMI-wise I was hovering around the "normal - overweight BMI" cut off. I started out making this a diet only thing. But lo and behold, I started working out as my weight dropped. I now compete in long distance cycling events (audax, randonneuring), multi-day events where you'll bike 300, 400, or even 600 km against a time limit. I never thought I would be able to do this. I train 3 times a week now, with long rides over the weekend. Keto (for me) is the perfect way to eat for this. I never expected that either. I don't have to do sprints, but I can go on at a steady pace for hours and hours.
I just stick to the foods that are good for me, ad leave the foods that I know will do me harm. It did completely up-end my food related behaviour though, and at home I had to make real adjustments in taking meals etc. But I did, and I'm glad I did. I now eat to a pattern that I can sustain and my life has changed for the better.5
