Oh, and when we were out for supper I had a delicious roasted pepper & eggplant sandwich - the flavours were soooooo yummy!!0
-
Lia, I usually wear my towel wrapped around my body until just before I jump in the pool. I hang it on the rack and then I get in the water as fast as I can!!
Seriously, though, swimming is the best full-body exercise you're gonna find because it's low impact and it seriously works every muscle in your body. I know that in just 3 months I'll be able to notice a difference, and I'm really excited about that.
You should swim!!0 -
Awwww
What an amazing romantic evening your hubby planned for you, Karrie! That's sooo sweet! 19 years...congrats!
I'm thinking about selling the pendants but I haven't listed anything yet. I want to look into a finishing process for them to make sure they are as smooth and shiny as possible. For the coasters and jewelry I'll probably sell on Etsy, and for the paintings I'll create my own web site.
Ooh, Lia, a pool nearby? I would so be into that...of course I say that now but I wouldn't not be super excited about wearing a bathing suit in public at this point either. Although I LOVE to swim, I very rarely do because of that issue. My husband and I have been thinking about having a pool since we looked at that house that had one, but putting one in is really expensive so I don't think that's going to happen for a few years at least.
Mihani, hope you are keeping your head above water with all of your work! Are you still rocking the blended salads?
Tomorrow I'm canning pears, drying pears, and making a test batch of the cucumber tomato flax crackers. Good thing it is going to be the hottest day of the year! Do I know how to plan or what?

Carla your jewelry is beautiful! I am so impressed with all your creations from jewelry to jam to fruit leather to paintings. Wish I had half your energy!
Lia, I am the same way. My brother has a pool and I love to swim, but I don’t want to wear a bathing suit. I don’t even own one actually, but they do make much more flattering suits now. Like swim shorts and more blousy tops, and even swim dresses. Lots more coverage without going full on Victorian lol.
Karrie, what a wonderful day your hubby planned for you, wow!
I have done a little backsliding, my stress levels once again got me going in the wrong direction, although I feel like I’m doing better than usual. Not binging or anything just not eating the best foods. Too many starchy carbs. Always with the starchy carbs.
0 -
I hear you on the starchy carbs, Mihani (as I'm munching on pretzels this very moment).
Good luck with all your sales, Carla - and if you decide to sell that green pendant, send me a PM!!0 -
Mihani, it is you that has all the energy! I have been getting carried away with all of the house projects and hobbies and I've been neglecting my work. It is starting to loom over me and I need to make some progress in the office soon. I am going to make it a priority tomorrow.
I made a taco salad last night that Joe and I really enjoyed. I sauteed some onions, warmed up a can of black beans and added taco seasoning to it, then put the beans and onions on top of lettuce, fresh onion, bell peppers, tomato, and avocado. Served it with salsa and sprinkled on a few taco strips on top. Perfect for the hot weather. I made my own taco seasoning blend instead of a package and posted it to our recipes section if anyone is interested.
Thanks everyone for the positive comments on my jewelry and resin art. I am having fun but I'm also a perfectionist and I have trouble feeling like anything I make is good enough.
My plans to make the crackers and can pears have changed. My husband informed me that we are out of fruit leather and it's time to make more! So that's coming first. It takes 12+ hours to dehydrate so I will have to start it in the afternoon so it finishes at a reasonable hour. I'm so glad I got the large dehydrator. I could fill up double that space easily, but it already takes up a big space on the counter. I thought I'd store it somewhere else, but so far I am using it too often to bother putting it away.

Carla thanks for posting the spice mix recipe. I like mixing up my own too. Seems kind of silly to pay extra for them to mix it for you doesn't it? The taco salad sounds really good.
Overnight oats for breakfast. I had a long day and I forgot my lunch so I got a subway veggie sub. Still haven't had dinner need to eat something here soon. Trying to finish laundry. Was at the office over 10 hours today, but I got a lot done so I feel pretty good about it.
By the way, I don't know why it took me so long to try overnight oats, but I am hooked. I like them that way better than cooked. I just use 1/2 cup oats, a cup of vanilla hemp milk, and a tablespoon of chia seeds. Sometimes I add a few walnut pieces just before serving.

OSG uses a mashed up banana in her recipe for overnight oats, which I really like too.
The overnight oats recipe that I'm desperately in love with just includes cocoa nibs and pomegranate seeds. TRY IT!!!0 -
Now I'm curious. I'll have to try overnight oats, too. Do you eat them cold?
Did good yesterday until dinner then went off the rails. Today is a new day. Started off with a blueberry banana spinach smoothie but for the second day in a row forgot to add flax or chia seeds. I think I'll go for a Greek style salad for lunch to use up some cucumbers. Lots of tomatoes ready in the garden too. Yum!
0 -
Yes, I eat them cold - but my mom likes to heat hers up. So whatever you prefer!
I'm enjoying the OSG Black Bean Quinoa bowl right now. Cumin dressing. Avocado. Mmmmmmm....0 -
I eat the overnight oats cold too. Never thought they would be so good.
I am very likely in the worst mood I've been in for years. I actually threw some papers across the room in my office today (which I am counting as exercise to go pick 'em back up lol) and I realize that something is going to have to give here.
Had overnight oats for breakfast, a luna bar for a snack, and blue corn chips for "lunch". I did eat a decent dinner of salad with some onion, baked sweet potato, and sliced yellow pepper. I need to sleep tonight. I sure hope I do.

Slept great last night, didn't go to the office today and took a long nap mid-day. Skipped breakfast, had a hummus quesadilla for lunch, and made the protein power goddess bowl from OSG for dinner. I love that recipe. I will go to the office tomorrow. It was good for me to recoup. Spent most of the day reading and napping, did a little laundry, played outside with the dog. Good day.

Sounds like a wonderful relaxing day, Mihani. Good for you!
Having my brother, his wife and kids over this afternoon. We're having taco salad since we enjoyed it so much the other day. Spent yesterday in the yard doing some much needed clean up. Sweeping the sidewalks that Ruby got bark mulch all over, cleaning the coop, mowing, weed trimming, and just general tidying. It was a hot one out there but we got an early start and felt good about all we accomplished. Much more pleasant temps today, around 72F/22c with a gorgeous breeze blowing through the house. Love it!0 -
Whew, the new place sure is keeping you busy Carla, but it all sounds so fun!
Spent a long day in the office, got a few things off my desk, not enough, never enough. Overnight oats for breakfast, some lentil soup and blue corn chips for lunch, leftover OSG protein power bowl planned for dinner.

My niece and nephews enjoyed coming over and picking pears and meeting all the new animals (Reba, Ruby & the chickens). The taco salad was a hit and so were the fruit leathers and dried fruits. Editing this post because I forgot to mention the kids were excited to be able to see some fawns that are living on the property. The kids walked up quietly and were able to get a good view.
I bought steel sheets that are covered in cool rust patterns from a scrap yard . I'm going to clean off any dirt, resin them, build bases for them, and then try pouring colored resin on top while letting the base show through here and there. I want to get some heavy duty screws or bolts to affix the steel to the base and give it a cool industrial look. I see it all in my head, I just hope it translates well when I actually do it!
I was going to make a smoothie this morning, but ended up snacking on fruit leather. Not the end of the world but not ideal either. Maybe I'll try out some overnight oats tomorrow for a change of pace. Those smoothies just aren't that appealing to me right now.
I'm thinking of having the OSG Thai Noodle bowl for dinner tonight and adding some tofu.0 -
Crazy day, have a headache. I am going to bed early!
Carla your vision for the resin art sounds amazing, can't wait to see! I am not grooving on smoothies lately either. I love the blended salads though. I think I just got burned out on the sweet of the usual smoothies.
B - amazing grass shaken with hemp milk
L - subway veggie sub
D - the last of the protein power bowl
S - apple, walnuts, a luna bar
0 -
Another busy day ... I was really craving a good dinner tonight.
B - smoothie with amazing grass, hemp milk, baby kale
L - a lara bar, some blue corn chips and an apple, more like snacks throughout the day didn't take time for lunch
D - barbeque tofu, baked sweet potato topped with a little earth balance, cinnamon and pepper, roasted broccoli, roasted yellow pepper

Oh my gosh, I feel like it wasn't that long ago since I was just here, but apparently it's been awhile and you guys have all been so busy!
Carla, I'm with Karrie - I will definitely be a customer of yours when you sell!!! I still don't know how to make overnight oats into something that doesn't gross me out.... maybe I need to try warming it up. The texture gets to me a bit too much. I'm not sure why. This summer, my husband and I have been making parfaits like crazy: coconut yogurt, lots of berries, and some muesli on top. Carla, are the chickens any more cuddly? LOL. I can't believe you have bambies on your property....
Karrie, your anniversary night sounds like a dream!! Wow I can't believe he set that whole thing up !!! I feel like if I wanted that as a gift, I'd probably have to organize it myself lmao. It sounded really nice and relaxing. Happy belated anniversary! Also, you're right, it is such good exercise and there's something about swimming in an indoor pool that always brings back good memories. I love the smell lol. How has your swimming been so far?
Mihani, nooooo. I'm sorry to hear about your bad dayHas it gotten any better?! I feel like your boss NEEDS to advertise for an assistant before you have a breakdown and then he needs to hire two to replace you!!!!! It's insane. The human body/mind can't go on like this forever... I am also started to feel at the end of my wits but I think in another week, it'll be a bit better. It's like this awful rollercoaster that you can't get off of lmao.
Have my best friend's wedding on Saturday! It's supposed to be a beautiful day. I hope I look ok in my dress and the photos. Overall, I"m super excited, as long as she doesn't turn into bridezilla (potentially on the verge...). I'm MOH so I know that it's on me to keep her calm and cool and all that jazz....0 -
Hey Lia, glad to see you. Hope things settle down after the wedding. Are you using rolled oats or instant for your overnight oats? I like them with the rolled oats, I want to try it with steel cut soon though. I really like them with just chia seeds and hemp milk. I'm okay, just starting to get a bit over the edge. The weather isn't helping. It's hot and humid which makes me grumpy.
Busy day, but I actually feel like I'm making a little progress on things this week. Problem is, my boss is behind too and if he tries to get caught up all the stuff on his desk lands on mine and then the files I was trying to get to end up getting buried again. We talked about it a little bit today and we're going to try to help each other more. That always seems to work out better in theory than in practice lol.
B - amazing grass in a shaker with hemp milk
L - subway veggie sub
D - baked potato and sauteed summer squash, broccoli, peppers, onion
S - a whole freaking bunch of triscuits... good grief
0 -
Hi Lia, sounds like you're busy too just like Mihani. Hopefully you don't have a bridezilla on your hands! I'm sure you will look beautiful in your dress. Have a great time!! Re the little bambis...Joe kept seeing a little one laying in the field by the fence on his way down the driveway going to work. Then on the way back he'd see it laying there again/still. We were worried that it had been abandoned so we traipsed all the way down there in rubber boots (because snakes!) in the tall grass in 100 degree weather to bring water and fruit. Turns out there were 3 deer - two fawns and a mama I presume, watching us wondering what the heck we were doing! LOL! I'm just glad they are okay.
I have yet to try the overnight oats, so I can't say if I'll like them or not. Is the texture ... errr ... slimy? I am not a fan of slippery food! I ordered amazing grass (the supplement, that is!) and it should be here by Friday so I'll see if I can get into that instead of my usual smoothie. Mihani, I hope your boss ends up helping you out more...it seems like you help him out plenty!!!! Sorry you overdid the triscuits but the way you logged it make me laugh.
Dinner out tonight with my in-laws. We're taking them to a fusion restaurant for Sylvia's birthday. I made her some resin coasters to go with her decor and made a handmade mixed media card. Watercolor, stitched fibers, and ink. As always, homemade cards take too long! But she is someone that will appreciate it at least.0 -
Carla, I have read that you can heat up the overnight oats and they are more like regular, but the soaking overnight makes them softer. I really like them just as they are, but you can definitely heat them up. That is so cute you went to check on the fawn, deer are beautiful, but can be destructive too. Hope you had fun at your birthday dinner.
I pre-ordered the new OSG cookbook today, and when you do that you get a bonus bundle of about 15 recipes in a pdf. They look good but nothing I got motivated to make right now. There is a soup that looks really good but it is so hot I have no desire to make soup right now. If you pre-order here's the website to get the bonus bundle ohsheglows.com/preorder/
B - smoothie (amazing grass, hemp milk, added some fresh greens and chia seeds)
L - steamer bag of broccoli and cauliflower with nooch and black pepper, some blue corn chips
D - going to make a pizza. Rustic Crust makes a really good wheat pizza crust that is vegan. The regular grocery store brands always seem to have egg or milk in them. I'm going to roast broccoli and red pepper, and pile up the pizza with that and some olives and banana peppers and a little bit of Daiya mozzarella style. I was really disappointed the first couple times I tried it that the Daiya really doesn't melt like it should on pizzas, and the trick is to use it very sparingly so it just flavors the pizza. It's never going to melt and spread like you expect it to, and using more in some vain hope that it will just overwhelms the pizza.
I will be working all weekend, so much to catch up on, and my boss and I are hoping to get a lot done. I just hope his version of getting a lot done doesn't involve too much throwing everything on my desk lol.

While I was ordering the new OSG, I also ordered Vegan Yum Yum which has been on my wish list for a while. It came to the office today (I have my stuff delivered there since I am usually there lol) and omg... I totally want to bookmark almost everything. I was sorry when her website disappeared. The internet rumors were that she had got into a fight with her publisher about the second book deal and she quit blogging and the second book never got published. Her facebook page still exists though. Weird.
Spent about 15 hours in the office over yesterday and today, made some progress, as always not enough. Brought home a couple things to work on and just waiting for laundry to get done and I'll get on those.
Overboard on triscuits again this weekend, and also ate a luna bar, and drank way too much coffee. I feel like crap, back to more strict ETL this week. I don't know why I think eating junk and over-caffeinating will make me feel better. It always, always, makes me feel worse. Other than triscuits and coffee things have been okay, smoothies, veggies and brown rice, hummus wraps.

I preordered the OSG cookbook too and got the extra bundle, but I haven't tried anything yet either...
Lia, I haven't started swimming yet; I haven't even gotten the kids registered yet - I'm so far behind for fall it's not even funny!
I haven't even got the kids their backpacks, school supplies or indoor runners yet, and they start school on Thursday!!!0 -
Yikes Karrie... sounds like you have some work cut out for you this week
I stopped and got more wraps and hummus and lettuce. I am not going to be cooking for a couple days, too hot, and I saw a mouse on my stove last night and totally freaked out. Putting out some traps and not going near the stove until it's gone. I have nothing against mice, outside where they belong, but my love of animals doesn't extend to rodents in my kitchen. No no no. In the meantime I'm going to scrub all my counters. I don't think it (or they, maybe there is more than one) has been on my counters much since mice poop everywhere and there is no sign of that, but I still want to bleach everything in sight! Thank goodness I didn't have any food out that it got into. I need to find where they are getting in because I go through this every year, although it is early in the year for it this time.
Today was a luna bar for breakfast, amazing grass shaken with hemp milk for a snack, hummus wrap for lunch, dinner will be another hummus wrap and some olives. And watermelon. I seem to be overstocked on watermelon again!

Oh, and I will say that the cats have gone DEFCON 1 here. They are rarely off sentry duty around the stove. Good cats! Their chances of catching a mouse hiding behind an oven are pretty minimal, but they've done it before. All they need is for it to be careless one time and they will be ready.

Wow - I'd freak out too! Out at the cabin we have those little plug-in mouse things that are supposed to make them avoid your general area. We have one in the cabin and we have one in the boathouse. And I've never seen a mouse on our property, so they must work!!
We had the hedgehog out at the cabin with us once, and it affected her too. She got really lethargic and when I picked her up she fell over in the palm of my hand and I thought "ohmigod I just killed our hedgehog!" So I unplugged it for the night and then she resumed her normal activity - but it was scary!!! So that high frequency noise that we can't hear really does something to them... And the local dog still comes over to visit and she even walks into our cabin sometimes like she owns the place, so it doesn't seem to affect larger animals...0 -
Interesting Karrie... I will have to check into those. I will have to read up on whether it has any ill effects on dogs, cats or fish first. I remember using these battery operated posts that you shoved in the ground around a shed at a prior house, groundhogs had taken up residence underneath it and were breeding like crazy, I was worried about the dogs going after them because groundhogs can be pretty tough when cornered. They seemed to work. I think they sent some sort of vibration out through the ground every few minutes that made it so the groundhogs couldn't rest and they eventually moved out. It's supposed to work for any burrowing animals. I was skeptical but they were cheap and ended up working, go figure.
Glad your little hedgehog was okay!
Work is still super busy/stressful/insane. I am looking forward to the long weekend to try to get a lot done in the office with nobody bothering me, and then take the following weekend off. I feel like it's just hopeless right now, but I think if I can get 3 days of good work time in with no phones or interruptions, that things will be a lot better.
B - amazing grass shaken with almond milk
L - hummus wrap with lettuce, red pepper, cucumber, olives, triscuits... darn those triscuits!
D - hummus wrap same as lunch, olives, watermelon, NO triscuits lol
I have been reading End of Dieting, which is borrowed from the library on my kindle, so far I like it. A lot of the same information but more "friendly" than ETL and more focused on the hows and whys rather than being so scientific. I am going to order the paperback, as I mentioned before I hate reading things like this on the kindle and not being able to flip back and forth easily. I also plan to give the 10 in 20 plan that I ordered from Dr. F's website a go this coming week. I need to go through the recipes and shopping lists and get all prepared.0 -
Couldn't find my recipe for broccoli orange stir fry with rice, so ended up coming to our recipe section to find it
Not the first time I've looked up one of my recipes here!
I think I'll hold off on the OSG 2 cookbook and use it to bribe myself back into better eating! I have my amazing grass now. I picked the detox one, and after having it once, had a killer headache the rest of the day. I am sure I need to detox, but I'm putting off having more because I am not looking forward to feeling like that for 3 or 4 days running.
Mihani, I'm with you on the mice. Not in the house, thanks!!!! I feel better having Reba around to take care of any that come inside. I know they are around outside, especially out in the field. I saw a snake and a mouse go by each other heading in opposite directions around the barn. It was a bit of a comical sight.
Karrie, are you excited to have the kids back in school this week? I can't believe the school year is starting already. Even though we'll still have nice weather, I always think of school starting as the end of summer.
Putting more time into my art and enjoying it. Keeping it fun and not stressing about selling it. I am working on the web site still. the class on web site development that I am taking only has new material every 2 weeks, so these first weeks where I already know what is being covered, are moving slowly. I am sure I will be happy to have the 2 weeks time to absorb the new material. I indulged myself and bought some more art supplies. I got them online and they won't arrive until next week Friday. The torture of waiting! I picked up an encaustic starter set. I've been interested in that for a while but have put it off because there's a lot of stuff needed to start.0 -
I am relieved that school started today. Phew!
I got them registered in swimming, but I found out I was looking at the wrong level. So instead of MWF, they are only swimming Wed and Thurs, and only for an hour instead of 90 minutes. But I'm thinking maybe I'll try to go on my own on Mondays or maybe Sundays, if I can fit it in so that I'm still going 3x per week...
I also got myself registered in guitar again this year. I quite enjoy it.
And I'm looking to see if I can fit a yoga class in my schedule somewhere, too...

Hi you guys! How is your week going? Today is my big 3-0!!! It doesn't really feel like it because I'm stuck at work under piles of paper, but it DOES feel like I shouldn't have to be here lol. Except now I'm a real grown up and birthdays are not holidays lol. Luckily, we have Monday as a holiday here so I've got a three day weekend to celebrate and I am not doing ANY work!!!!
Karrie, you are on a roll!! I feel like you always decide on 10 things instead of 2 things to do at a single time lol. I don't know how you do it! I am pledging to you to sign up at the pool, maybe this weekend, but at least in September sometime. When will your first time be?
Carla, I wish I had an artist relative! My sister is a good photographer at least though. What did your MIL think? Glad to hear you've got some more time for your craft. I love hearing about your bambis too!
Mihani, how do you like End of Dieting? I am flipping through that one every so often too. My body is starting to crave the return to more plant based foods too. I think I will have wine this weekend and probably some ice cream, but I will try not to go crazy because I'm so aware it will make me feel worse. Any sign of your mouse? They have non-lethal ones too so you can drive them to a faraway place!! LOL0
