Carla, I love seeing your art!! It looks amazing, I love the colours and you can sort of see the textures too. Your coloured concrete floor sounds so cool!!! Too bad about the slow concrete guy though. And yes my swimsuit arrived yesterday!!! Have to try it on still.
I agree with Mihani though about her new book....I was expecting perfection from her again, and I'm a bit disappointed. So far the stuff that I have tried has been mostly good, but I was Realllllly looking forward to more entrees and real meals/lunches... Like one of her entrees is a vegan nachos, which is fine and presumably yummy, but not useful to weekly lunches or nighttime meals. And quite a few already on her blog. Maybe I'm being too hard, but I was really hopeful too!! On a side note, the sweet potato/black bean burritos from her last book are delish!!!
Mihani, is there any way you can take a proper vacation? Like two weeks away... and maybe your boss will freak and hire someone else?!? I feel like we all keep saying this and so do you.... but it's insane. I don't want you to have a breakdown one day over your job!
I have to go to the doctor today and I'm terrified of being weighed publicly lol. Or her telling me I'm too chubby. Sigh. I know that my bloodwork is always great and I'm healthy, so maybe I just look for things to worry about lol.0 -
Mihani, I'm sorry that you lost your mom when she was so young. I feel very lucky to have both of my parents still healthy and together. Nice that your neighbor gives you veggies from their garden! I wish you guys were close enough for me to give you all of our excess too! We are still swimming in pears. My mom double checked when she crossed the border on the way home because I know there are some fruits and vegetables you can bring across depending on the season and where they were grown. She got a firm 'no' about my pears though. I hope you can figure out the work situation! It sounds so tiring and stressful to be inundated with work day after day without even having the weekends off.
Hi Lia! Thanks for your thoughts on the new OSGs book. I will pass on it. Maybe if I see it some day in a used bookstore I'll pick it up. I've been on a major spending spree in the last few weeks (2 pairs of boots, some outfits, of course more art supplies, home decor) but at least I'm saving $15 on book! yeash! lol I hope your swimsuit fits great and it gives you that boost of confidence for your swimming plans! You will rock it at the doctor. I always worry about things like that too. I try to make my appointments for first thing in the morning so I don't stress out all day on the day of my appointment.
I had a nice day out with my mom yesterday. She is the kind of person that meets a random stranger on the street and they end up hugging as they part. She ended up getting me a fantastic deal on a new bedspread! She was talking to a lady that works in a furniture store and asked about a bedspread that was on display because we both loved it so much. It turns out it was her bedspread and she had just moved to a small condo so didn't have room for it in her house (it was newly purchased and on the guest bed before the move). Anyway, long story a little shorter, I ended up taking it home for a mere fraction of the price she paid for it wholesale. Not that I needed a bedspread. But, I love it and would never be able to buy it full price. We had a late lunch at a restaurant downtown, and decided to sit in their outdoor courtyard. We were the only ones there! It was so cute!! It was totally enclosed and had a fence made out of driftwood. It was a beautiful sunny day and we were under the shade of an umbrella. Then our food came and it was delicious. We were scarfing it down and then we caught each others eyes, looks around grinning and then both just burst out laughing because it was so awesome!! A great memory.
food plan for the day
b - almond milk, great grass, 1/2 a banana and some blueberries blended
l - chickpea salad wrap
d - enchiladas or african peanut stew

Lia, I hope you enjoy your swimming. Swimming is one of the few activities where I actually feel like I’m kind of coordinated, not clumsy and tripping over my feet! I don’t know about vacation time, I am trying to figure out a way to maybe take a really long weekend over Thanksgiving, maybe take that week off and the whole holiday weekend… depends on if I can get on top of things better between now and then. Hope you got a clean bill of health, and no doctor shaming! My doctor is pretty laid back about that actually, I think he figures I know I need to lose weight, my bloodwork is always good, but he’ll remind me my dad developed type 2 diabetes even though he was never much overweight, maybe from 20 to 40 pounds at different times in his life, never obese.
Sounds like you had a wonderful day with your mom, Carla. Did you try the enchiladas? How did they turn out?
Another busy day in the office. I’m going to work really hard this weekend and see if I can finish up a few things that people are anxious to get done. I feel guilty when clients seem unhappy, even though they aren’t really totally complaining or anything (yet). My boss would be happy if I got a few cases closed too. It just seems almost impossible to get things done during the week when you're constantly fielding calls and emails and meeting with clients and etc.
B – vega protein and greens shaken with hemp milk (overslept)
L – PB&J on wheat bread (I use the simply fruit stuff not jelly), some pretzels
D – hummus quesadilla

hi guys:
Mihani, I hear you. It seems like the actually office hours are for fielding emails/calls/appointments with clients, and then after hours is when the work actually gets done! My dad is really drowning I think, same as you, and I'm trying to help but he's also a bit of a workaholic and usually figures it is easier if he does it himself. I have a bit of a quiet day today so I'm hoping to finish a boat load of things!
Carla, aw your afternoon with your mother sounds amazing! What a nice day date. I am making more of an effort to get in some quality time with my parents too. I see them a lot but it is nice to have memories like that, I'm sure you can attest especially Mihani. Carla, I'm also trying to curb my spending at the moment but it's so hardddd. Especially when the seasons are changing... I find my closet unappealing lol.
My doctor was fine! She was young like me and really friendly and said nothing about my weight at all when she weighed me, so I worried for nothing. I found out I'm only 5'8 when I've been thinking 5'9 for my whole life lol
Any plans for your weekends!? I'm going to this giant farmers market tomorrow morning with a friend. It's starting to feel more like fall around here! xo0 -
Lia you might be shrinking! I always thought I was 5'6" then one year a doctor told me I was 5'5". I wonder what I am now... eek. My ideal weight would be going down with my height, who needs that? The farmers market sounds awesome!
I am not going to the office tomorrow, brought work home. I'm not going to do the charity walk, my ankle starts bugging me about the 1 mile mark and I don't think I could do 3 miles. I'll meet up with the team after but I can get some work done in the morning, then I will probably stop at the vegfest on the way home from meeting up with the team.
B - raw fit shaken with hemp milk
L - PB&J, pretzels
D - hummus quesadilla
Repeat of yesterday pretty much. I'm going to indulge in a couple beers this evening too.

Lia, I'm with you, the change of seasons makes me want to buy clothes! Especially fall. Glad your doctor's visit went well! I always thought I was 5'5", but they measure me in at the doctor's at 5'4". No big plans for me this weekend. I'm going to try to get resin work done while it is still warm enough out for it to cure properly. There's a little farmers market in town that I keep meaning to check out but I haven't yet.
Mihani, good for you avoiding the office tomorrow, and also forgoing the charity walk. No point in injuring yourself by overdoing it!
I was on the phone with my mom today and she asked if I wanted to go to aquafit with her. I haven't been doing much of anything for exercise, so although I loath the idea of getting into a swimsuit in public, I am going to look into it and see if there's something around me that works for us.
B - smoothie
L - chickpea salad in tortilla
D - not sure yet

Aquafit sounds fun Carla... I have looked into it but the classes near me all seem to be during the morning hours and I am at work then.
Had a nice time hanging out with the team after they got done with the walk. Didn't end up stopping at vegfest, I was just tired and out of sorts. I didn't get as much work done as I should/could have so I am staying home again today and just work on what I still have here. Planning to make a batch of the golden french lentil stew.
B - avocado toast
L - not sure yet, I don't always eat lunch on weekends
D - golden french lentil stew

Mihani, did you get caught up with the work you took home? I always overeat on weekends. I guess that's to do with the extra time I have and the feeling that every weekend is a celebration hah.
I didn't get around to making the enchiladas yet, but I think I will finally make them today.
There's a YMCA 10 minutes away from me with a pool, so we may end up trying out their aquafit. They have 1 to 2 classes a day during the week in the middle of the morning so it will probably be mostly seniors. That's okay, hopefully I'll be able to keep up!0 -
I never get caught up Carla, but I made a dent lol. How'd your enchiladas turn out?
The golden french lentil stew turned out just as good as the first time. Nom.
B - smoothie (raw fit, hemp milk, chia seeds, 1/4 frozen banana)
L - PB&J and pretzels
D - red lentil kale soup and some blue corn chips
S - some grape tomatoes and carrot sticks

I just got back from the dentist. I'm frozen all the way up to my eyelid. I feel beat up.
My first swim is tonight! I'm looking forward to it. Bought new goggles and everything.0 -
I had the enchiladas half made when our water got turned off! They were doing some maintenance and a pipe burst unexpectedly. I had already made the enchilada sauce, and that turned out good! The yams are cooked and the veggies are chopped so it should be an easy meal for tonight. I hope it turns out...I normally make a single recipe the first time around to try it out, but since the OSG recipes always turn out so well I decided to just double it and have meals for a few days. I can't imagine it not being good. Yams, beans, onions and peppers wrapped in a tortilla and topped with an enchilada sauce. What could go wrong? (cue disaster haha)
I have a new camera coming today so that I can start photographing my art. Haven't decided on the lights or filters yet, it is all kind of confusing for a newb like me, but in the meantime I'll just get to know the camera. Haven't used one with manual settings in years! I don't have the budget to go crazy with a camera, so I went for image quality and had to forgo a lot of optional features. I know the zoom lens it comes with won't be as good as a prime (non zoom) lens, but since the biggest issue I'm having is the reflective surface of the resin, it should be good enough for now.0 -
Ouch Karrie... I hate that numbed up feeling. Enjoy your swim tonight!
How'd the enchiladas turn out Carla? Congrats on the new camera.
Busy busy day, stayed a couple hours late at the office, but got one big project out of the way and should be able to finish another tomorrow. I never took a break to eat so I grazed on pretzels, nuts and a luna bar, and ate some carrot sticks and grape tomatoes. I am not too hungry now but will eat a little something and then to bed early. I am meeting some friends for drinks tomorrow evening, will be good and just have 1 glass of wine and salad. The place we're going isn't at all vegan friendly so salad will be an easy choice.

Ugh, I hate being numb right up to my eyeballs, Karrie! I hope you 'thaw' soon
Have a good swim!
Yay, a big project out of the way! Nice, Mihani! There's a restaurant in town that one of our clients likes to go to and it is so un-vegan-friendly that there isn't even a salad that doesn't have meat on it...not to mention of course the dairy. Enjoy your evening out with friends. Sounds lovely.
The camera arrived later in the day than I'd hoped and then I had to charge the battery. Not much daylight to play with it, but I will be ready to put in some time with it tomorrow.
The enchiladas were more work and dirty dishes than I'd like for a meal, but they turned out really good. My husband likes them a lot too, so I will make them again. I'll probably make the enchilada sauce ahead of time. Doubling the recipe was a bit overkill. We each had one enchilada and I am so stuffed! In the future, I'll bake just 2 of them at a time and keep the rest of the filling, sauce and tortillas separate until the day we're going to eat them. I think they'd also work out well for a work lunch. Bring it all separate, wrap in tortilla and nuke it.0 -
Hope you have fun with your camera tomorrow Carla! I agree about work and dishes, but sometimes it is worth it.
I had lots of fun out with my friends. I needed some fun!
B - amazing grass shaken with hemp milk
L - Amy's pad thai
D - two drinks and some awesome fries... more like roasted potato wedges
Got another project done today, and covered all my deadlines through next week. I still have far too much to get done, but at least I'm making progress.

My swim was good; did about 1km. My shoulder was nagging at me; I didn't realize how stiff it's been. Gonna hafta loosen that up. Felt good to be doing something. And I also didn't realize how much I miss the pool. I was a lifeguard for 16 years, after all!!
I'm struggling with food right now. No prep time in my life. I need to make time, especially on the weekends and prep for the week. Maybe I'll try to make 2 big dishes on Sunday so I can alternate suppers for the week...
Mihani, how is Amy's pad thai?? Sounds yummy...0 -
Congrats on getting back to the pool, Karrie. Sometimes starting is half the battle.
I thought I'd update you guys with my thoughts on the OSG enchiladas. My husband still really likes them, and I do too, but I find that they are a bit too heavy by themselves. The avocado cream sauces helps, but there really needs to be something fresh and crisp on the side to offset them.0 -
I am completely blank on a title for October... pondered it earlier and came up with nothing. Any ideas?
Good for you getting to the pool Karrie... you'll loosen up in no time. The Amy's pad thai is pretty good, although I think the OSG noodle bowl from the first cookbook is better. I am having trouble with prepping food too. I am actually kind of looking forward to the colder weather from a food aspect, just because I can get back to my big batches of soup to freeze for easy dinners. Not so good for the hot summer months.
I will have to try the OSG enchiladas Carla. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on them.
I worked from home today, and will probably do the same tomorrow still a lot to do on what I brought home, may as well just hang out with the dog and cats.
B - pancakes from Vegan with a Vengeance... they were just okay. I like the idea of pancakes sometimes on the weekends, but in practice they are too heavy and I end up throwing a lot out.
L - apple
D - stir-fry veggies and brown rice
