birthday sweets obsessing

Just a rambling rant....
Today is the first birthday I have ever had without any amount of cake/pie/icecream etc and it's all I can think about. It has been an obsession for me all day and it's driving me crazy. I just came home from the grocery store where I looked very long and hard at a lot of sweets. I even looked at the "no sugar added" varieties but even those still have a ton of carbs in them.
The biggest splurge I gave myself today was a little bit of fried rice with my hibachi dinner, and that was only because I ran 8 miles this morning.
I have been struggling with overeating ever since my cruise 2 months ago and barely managing to keep even on the scale. But for the last couple weeks I have finally kept my eating under control and the scale is finally starting to move in the right direction again. Because I'm just starting to make headway I am terrified of ruining it. I know me. A small birthday treat would very likely lead to more "treats" and once again I would have destroyed days of work and required days more just to get back to the point I am at now.

Well HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you and congratulations for keeping things under control My birthday treat is always my mom's homemade bbq ribs...there is some ketchup in her sauce so I have to plan for that. Blow the candles out and make a wish...hope your wish comes true!1

Here is a pic of my favorite birthday treat. Others can have cake. I will take bacon crusted ribs any day. The Stubb's BBQ sauce is much lower in carbs than most and tastes better.
In case you want to make these, I just did a variation of what is in this link using an actual smoker instead of a grill.

Yes it is! Sugar addiction was a big part of my decision to go keto. I still have to be mindful of it. I initially thought using the no carb sweeteners didn't matter but I found out most of them drive the addiction just as much as real sugar. Just having too much sweet flavor, too often, even if low carb, even if a natural source, can get that feeling if "need" stirred up again.
It's easier to push away now, but always lurking.1 -

Oh my gosh that sounds fabulous! I make a homemade sugar free bbq sauce and i would destroy some of that bacony goodness with it!0 -
Why not just make yourself a low-carb cake/pie/ice cream? That way you aren't cheating and still helping to drive yourself toward your goal all while satisfying your taste buds? I always say, the easiest way to get rid of a craving is to feed it. I had two (2) different kinds of homemade low-carb ice cream over this past week-end. If I can, why can't you?!1

I could care less about the spice cake but thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing the link. Now I have one more really good keto site to go to!0 -

That sounds really good but I have to ask a question. How "firm" does it come out after cooking? I have a serious hate of coconut flour, not for taste but because I have never had a good recipe using it. They always completely fall apart, having no body to them.0 -

Part of it is that you can't make a "slice of pie", you get a full pie and nobody but me to eat it.

@silverfiend - the majority of Maria's recipes are pretty heavily tried and tested, so I would imagine this is a "traditional" type of firmness. This is also an older recipe of hers, and there are not any notes about updating or changing the recipe, so I would expect pretty good results from it.1

Happy birthday to you! Enjoy a mug cake or cheesecake for a treat and add some whipped cream for "frosting" Mug cakes are great because they are so quick and easy to whip up and only take a minute or two to make.
