Adding 1 mile from 1/1/17. We were traveling for our last Christmas with family and managed to get in a short walk between eating, opening presents and playing games. It was a brisk, windy one but felt I needed to do SOMETHING on the first day of the year!
(Has anyone else be experiencing their ticker not updating? Mine should say 1/50)

I am in for 200 this month. It is back to half marathon training and trying to get back in it slowly and without injury.
Happy New Year everyone! Thanks you to our faithful data keepers! Welcome to lamm84416! It is always great to have new folks join our group.
Congrats to queenegreene for saving up so much money for all your hard work this past year!
For those that may have missed my post on December. I was challenged last by a running friend last year to save a certain amount of money per each running mile I completed. It could be any amount such as a dime, quarter or dollar per mile. I only concentrated on my running miles and paid myself a dollar per mile. I accumulated over $500 with most of the last month off due to a foot issue. Queenegreene did the challenge too and saved over $1600.00. Now we each have a nice little stash to use for whatever we want.
Also, I shared this idea given to me by a friend. I had a rough year with stresses at work, my dad being ill and with living with my hubby and me and my husband's health. So I got a jar and I am going to the following. I need to see all the good things that happen around me this year and keep my focus on them.
So pleased things are going better for you. as you know our family needs good things too. I saw this on a South African page last week and showed it my OH but he was not interested, however I will be doing it with you. The notes not the money!
A sunny day so have started with 6 miles walking today0 -

Happy New Year EVERYONE!!!! 2016 brought a lot of professional surprises, stresses and unexpected successes my way. I am grateful for those, but......my eating habits and exercise habits took a major step backwards in the process. Now it's time for me to get those under control again. I'm starting out with a 50 mile goal for January, don't want to aim too high and get frustrated so soon.

@clepant Thank you for the jar idea. When things get crazy sometimes it's hard to remember the good things that happen. I may adjust it to Kar's idea of daily though, a few minutes remembering a tough day was not a complete disaster might do me some good.
I hope you and sussexbythesea and others that are having some challenges do find some peace this year. Let us all do our best, remembering to be kind to ourselves when the inevitable illnesses and injuries get in our way, even when those illnesses and injuries are to a loved one. Even in those unexpected tough times, there is something good, the hard part is seeing and appreciating those moments. I will focus on seeing those moments myself, I hope you can too.1 -

@ Dave - No worries about taking my "day." I hope you don't mind that I took some of yours. I think you deserve a little break over the holidays. I know you have a lot going on and since my big project is completed and I have a little more time on my hands now it's not a problem to give you a little rest.
@vhuber - that's amazing you've lost 17 pounds since the photo. You look fantastic. Good luck with school tomorrow. Feel better.
@kar - amen to not letting bad habits creep in.
@lamm84416 - Welcome! It's great to have you here. We're a very dedicated and supportive group.
Now as for me, today is a big day. Today marks my 5th anniversary on MFP and my 60th consecutive MYAC. In those 5 years I made my goal weight (losing over 50 pounds from my highest weight), put back on some of the weight, and fought hard to make sure I stay in a healthy range. I've run or walked over 6000 miles, averaging over 100 miles per month. I've made a lot of friends on MFP, seen many of them disappear, and found others who seem to be here for the long term. I went from couch to marathoner, running so many now that I've lost count. I've done the Dopey Challenge (5k, 10k, half marathon and marathon) 3 times. I've gotten discouraged. I've over eaten. I've had the wheels come off the bus in a race and had to walk the last 6 miles. I've lowered my monthly goal. I've gone days without exercising at all. I've had days where I never wanted to exercise again. But through it all this group has been here for me. I've pulled myself up and moved my @ss and met my goal every month, because I didn't want to fail this challenge. And while it's not all sunshine and roses, I know that without this group and my own stupid determination to make my goal I would have gained back every pound I lost, I would be on blood pressure medication, and I would have been a far less happy person. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you all for being here and being part of this wonderful ongoing challenge.7 -

@JTH111706 - I loved reading your post! I have been around for a while, have missed many monthly goals but hit a few. The last 6 months have been tough with a big software conversion at work. I let all the OT derail me and (if I'm honest) used it as an excuse to not get my miles in. Reading you post was so motivational and I appreciate all the work you and the other moderators put into keeping this going. Thanks so much!0

@Janet: Your post brought back MANY reminders of my struggles & how this group & the need to move to save my sanity pulled me through. You have done awesome & I thank you for what all you do here. May 2017 NOT be a stress filled one & our energy levels stay high.
Today was 8 miles (4 from treadmill & 4 from ex bike). I will ride ex bike @ 4 am before work & then plan on going to tabata class tomorrow night( that is "IF" my cold/sinus crud is better).

Dec. 2: While being the only school district in the country to be open on what is considered a holiday, all of the day area in the area were closed and parents showed up to find they had no one to watch their kids this morning. The good news: No traffic delays because there was none.
Adding 10 miles of walking and cycling.
TTD: 22 miles
@vhuber: congrats on your continued weight loss. Definitely need a new profile. (Side note: As I typed your name in, my iPad kept changing it to @chubbier. Yikes!)
@Janet: Love what you wrote and second it.
Glad so many like the jar idea. Have to share. Talked with all my PE classes today about doing something amazing this year. I told them how much I saved by paying myself for my running miles and also shared my jar idea and encouraged them to join in. While explaining to my first grade class, a student asked me what kind of things would I write about. I told them about a second grade student who gives me a hug every day whenever she sees me. She always makes me feel good. Suddenly, one, than two, three, and eventually the entire class runs up and hugs me. The entire class is doing one big group hug. Moments like this always reminds me that while teaching has its struggles, these simple acts makes it all worthwhile.

Going to aim for 60 miles to start. Hopefully this month will be better than December. Thanks to everyone who volunteers their time to keep us all on track.0
