January Challenge

How is everyone's new year going? What are your resolutions?

My resolution is to stick to my eating plan (lowcarb) at all times, and to make any "cheats" planned and really count. Like yes to dessert on valentines day, no to the random donuts someone brought in to work. Also I will commit to stretching at least 3x per week, as I have a chronic issue that stretching should really help with.

Lets have a challenge!
I would like to lose 10# in January....how much would you like to lose? @WifiresGettingFit
1/1: 207
1/5: 204
2/1 goal: 197

Obviously those of you that are already pregnant, @VeryKatie @puffbrat @motivatedsister (sorry if I missed anyone!) probably arent looking to lose weight while pregnant, suggestions for your own fit pregnant January?

I think I really need to start up a fitness routine. I was thinking You Are Your Own Gym for now. Plus a little light cardio. I'm definitely having laboured breathing as a symptom, even this early.

So I will try to start that program on Jan. 9ish.

Weight goal is to gain. So far I'm on track, but I couldn't weigh properly this week or last week since I was on vacation and am now on a business trip.

Sorry everyone I've been MIA. I am hoping to be more active here in February. Maybe even late January.
I'm pretty close to getting my midwife to write a note to my boss saying that my weekly work hours need to be restricted to 40 hours instead of 55 - 77 hour weeks, which is what they have been since December 6. In fact, my boss tried to cancel my vacation but LUCKILY I'd already booked the hotels for the vacation so he didn't. Otherwise I'd be a crying mess right now.

Like Katie, I really need to get back to a fitness routine. I have done VERY little the last couple months and I feel it. I want to lift weights (bar only for some exercises and light hand weights for others) once a week and do cardio, walking or hiking, at least 3 times a week.

I wasn't eating much the last several weeks due to the nausea but I now find my appetite coming back which I assume will mean packing on pounds, so I REALLY need to get back to logging. My goal for this pregnancy is to not go over 200 which would mean ~25lb gain.

@VeryKatie those are horrible hours you've been working! I hope the midwife writes the note for you soon!

I turn 30 in August, so I am hoping to lose 30 pounds by my 30th birthday! In January, my goal is to lose 5 pounds, and get back into a regular routine of logging every day and trying to figure out an exercise routine.

    Jan 3 - 176.5
    end of Jan - 171.5

@VeryKatie wow I really hope you get that note too! Those are crazy hours when you are growing a human! I would be livid if I was asked to cancel a vacation, so I'm glad you got at least some time off to relax.

I'm still coming up with a course of action for the entire year and I think I'll be breaking it down between daily/weekly/monthly/yearly goals but the main goal is to lose weight. This is still a work in process as I'm still in planning mode while still trying to be in a deficit while doing all the planning because well the time is passing anyway and I basically if I'm being completely honest wasted an entire year.

At this point I don't really care if it's just a pound a month. I just want to be losing.

I've pondered giving myself a reward for every 15 pounds. I've also contemplated taking a scheduled diet break every 8-12 weeks just for a weekend at maintenance not a full week. I think breaking it down to increments might be easier. Basically I'm trying to get it to where I'm looking forward to other things because clearly wanting to lose weight and feeling better and all my others reasons just aren't enough to keep me consistent. I am getting better though albeit slowly with my eating and I've been consistent with my exercise for almost all of 2016 so there is that at least.

I'll join the challenge but I'm going to make it easy on myself because feeling successful makes me happy and not meeting my goals makes me feel like crap. haha

I didn't have a working scale on the 1st so I'll go with my very heavy weigh in on the 3rd.

    January 3rd: 205.8
    February 3rd: 202.8

@VeryKatie I can't believe he was going to try to cancel your vacation or that he's having you work such very long hours.

@VeryKatie I agree, working 40 hours while pregnant is plenty! I cant believe your boss tried to cancel your vacation, yuck. Hope you have a healthy weight gain with your pregnancy.
@puffbrat Those are great goals for a fit pregnancy! Here is to logging and moving more in January.
@jennamae102 30 pounds by August is doable for sure! What kind of exercises are you thinking of doing? Katie had a great spreadsheet for activities and tracking calories that we should get back to using, they were awesome!

Hi everyone. Please feel free to add me. We just started trying to get pregnant and I need to get my act together because if this is really happening I dont want to regret not planning well. I want to be more consistant with my diet and exercise because that is when I feel awesome over all! I need to track and track and track.

Goals! I'd like to lose 4# in January..consistency actually works!

    1/2/16: 184
    Goal: 2/1/17: 180

Hi @krizaten33 ! Welcome and thanks for joining the challenge! I have sent a FR. What are your plans for January that will help make you successful?
    Good luck ttc!

@WifiresGettingFit we posted at the same time, so I missed yours! I hear you on the wasted an entire year thing...last February I was down to 184?!?! And now I have gained 20# since I joined this group and yoyoed the year away as usual. Now that ttc really is right around the corner....Im getting my butt in gear! I don't want to start pregnancy out at 200# then gain 50 or so...eep. I think I'll go do a lap around the office!

@puffbrat @jennamae102 @verykatie (Katie I didn't want to leave you out because I didn't mention your goals in my previous reply haha) Great goals ladies!

@Krizaten33 Great goals and welcome to the group! We're glad to have you! =)

@Kirstie155 Great goals! Yeah I ended up basically regaining as well on top of gaining about five pounds more by the end of the year so I need to get my butt in gear especially because I really don't want to be obese when TTC and at this rate, I will be.

@Kirstie155 exercise for me right now is mainly walking. I have pretty long days; I live in the Chicago suburbs and work downtown, so I spend nearly 3 hours a day commuting. By the time I get home at night, especially being so dark and cold right now, the last thing I want to do is exercise! I have different DVDs that I enjoy (Zumba, yoga, 30 day shred) and I need to force myself into the habit of getting up 30 minutes earlier to fit one in a few days a week.

Oh, and I forgot to mention earlier than I'm doing dry January (anyone else?!)...we're only a few days in to the month, but its going well! I figure its a good way to prevent drinking extra calories while trying to get back into the swing of MFP :)

I am tracking...daily and going to continue to do so. I am most successful when I track the good and the bad.
My gym has a Jan/Feb challenge where you attend 8 pre selected classes a month and get entered into a drawing for a $200 lululemon gift card......I got my first punch on it last night.. I am considering getting back to a trainer that I worked with a few months ago who does a small group personal training. I would have to go on Saturdays at 7:00 AM...when my husband is home with our son. and water.water. water! and fit bit........and good healthy food! My goals are to be gluten free and no added sugar....or little. This is when I feel the best.

Happy Monday everyone! How was your weekend? I strayed off plan a little (desserts at my 2 parties) but am not disappointed in myself as I stuck to it for the rest of the time :)

    1/1: 207
    1/5: 204
1/9: 201.6 YAY!!!! :D Making great progress here! I know I started the month super heavy from Christmas, my vacation and NYE, so at least 3-5# was water...but I think there is some real progress being made!

    2/1 goal: 197

Awesome @Kirstie155 way to go! Same here that I started January up from holiday indulgences, but I was down 2.5lbs last week!

    Jan 3 - 176.5
    Jan 6 - 174

I also did a yoga DVD this weekend, which I haven't done in a long time (hello soreness) and tracked my whole weekend (the good and the bad)!

How's everyone else doing so far this month?

    Hi Everyone!

I put up a January challenge sheet if anyone wants to use it.

How is everyone progressing? I'm going to try to do my YAYOG routine today unless my doctor tells me I need to go get checked... I will do that when I get home from the doctor, probably around 2:00.

    Great job ladies!

    1/3: 177.2
    1/10: 176.6

Went hiking on Sunday and was surprisingly sore after. Not a good sign, need to get back to it. At least my weight is generally holding steady. Unfortunately I think I now have a cold.

@Kirstie155 My weekend was great. We actually had a weekend at home which we haven't had in I don't know how long, maybe 4 months? So it was super nice to have the time together and time to work on our to do list.

I think I'm making progress albeit slow but I think I've gotten my eating under better control. Not sure where this whoosh is from but it likely won't stay but I just go by what the scale says. haha

Hi all, I'm new! Looks like you're all making great progress!

My goal is to lose 3 lbs by 2/1/17, which would put me at 133.6.

I got in a good workout today at lunch and hope to do so for the rest of the month. I signed up for a 5k on 1/21 and unfortunately went for my first jog in months today. I jogged 1 mile to the gym, lifted, and jogged 1 mile back to work. Signed up for $20 reimbursement from insurance if I go to the gym 12x/month, so I'm working toward that now. Good to have a monetary incentive! Looking forward to achieving our January goals!

@pezhed that is a great incentive, $20 to workout--hello cash! What kind of lifting program do you do? I also said welcome in your other thread :)

I was down another pound this week:

    Jan 3 - 176.5
    Jan 6 - 174
    Jan 13 - 173

I've been logging faithfully and sticking to Dry January...need to get some exercise in. How's everyone else doing?

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

@jennamae102 Good job! Dry January sounds hard!
@Kirstie155 I do StrongLifts 5x5 for lifting. It's simple which keeps me motivated, mostly, but I have stopped and restarted a few times.
@VeryKatie Check in after your workout tomorrow!

@pezhed I was doing SL 5x5 before I got pregnant too. I like the program. Going to switch to body weight exercises now since I didn't maintain my fitness for a couple months before getting knocked up. I'll check in tomorrow!

@pez, I also do 5*5 but only twice last week and once this week. I tend to go at things 1000% and burn out or hurt myself, so taking it really easy this go round and listening to my body. My leg has been sore, so I took an epsom salts bath instead. There is also a good women's 5*5 group on here too if you are interested in joining.

@jenna great job on the loss! I weigh every day, but am only recording on Mondays.

    @ Katie how's bebe?

@Kirstie155 I too am only doing it twice a week. I think it's fine to do it less as long as you're progressing. And even if not, it's still a really good workout! I was in the group when I was lifting regularly but now I'm a lurker. I'll probably join back into posting soon
