Funny that meat didn't make my top 10. Though I think I use different entries for different cuts of beef, so that splits it up a bit. And chicken is in the top 15. I also noticed that I'll enter things like Brazil nuts a lot - like 3 nuts with breakfast, and a few more at lunch and a few more at dinner.... I think things like that skew the list a bit.0 -
My top 10 are:
1. Steak

10 Chicken or ground beef (sort of alternating between the two)
...and don't forget onions and garlic, for seasoning
Oh, and kombucha and water kefir aren't exactly "foods" but I have kombucha every morning and drink water kefir several times a day. The probiotics seem to help joint pain. We brew our own, which keeps the cost down.0 -

> Lately I'm doing a 30-day N=1 experiment eliminating almonds and almond butter because I'm starting to suspect that they may be a problem food for me. A good chuck of my diet used to be made up of almonds, but I've taken a different view of them lately - they are a incomplete protein, have a dense calorie punch, and are potentially inflammatory as they do contain lectins - all of which are not necessarily great for weight loss. Plus, nuts are convenient as hell which means I'm more willing to grab a quick handful and get back to what I'm whatever Im doing rather than take the time to cook up a nutritious well-rounded meal that satisfies for much longer.
I've been listening to the Robb Wolf podcast a bit this weekend and on one of his very first podcasts he talks about how if we were to take a really in depth look at almonds and other paleo nuts, they behave more like grains in the body than anything else, but when you're trying to convert someone over into the paleo lifestyle and tell them you can't have grains, legumes, or dairy, and then you throw nuts in there, at that point they're most likely to throw up their hands and say, "Forget it! I can't live this way!" In his book Cordain also mentions that nuts should be used more like condiments rather than actual food items.
So yes, nuts are okay, but if you're really hard core paleo you're probably better off without them. Since I've eliminated them I finally broke through my weight loss stall and the last little bit of acne I had has disappeared.
It sucks though, cause I love nuts but I guess I like feeling good and looking good naked better0 -
