Curious to see how other peoples journeys are going Looking for encouragement.

I kinda fell into the low carb diet by accident. I wasn't really happy eating as many carbs as I was and just decided to not eat as many and over time sort of preferred eating similar to a Keto diet. I don't consider myself a pure keto dieter but at times I've been pretty much along those lines. I lost about 20lbs within the past year and a half now and I'm at my lowest weight and I feel great. I have more energy and I don't crave the bad foods I used to eat tho at times I struggle here and there as I am an emotional eater. I started really getting into low carb last summer and still going strong. My daily carb amount was about 45g for a while, sometimes more but averaging around that amount. And now I'm around 20-30 average daily and I feel great. I struggle with not eating more fat which is why I tend to be more of a low carb eater instead of a keto chick. I would say find what is right for you. Not every body is the same and I would suggest also to listen to your body and give it what it wants. Get in tune with your hunger. Just earlier today I knew I needed to eat something despite emotionally and mentally not wanting to. Instead of being a jerk to myself I reached for a healthy snack of three stalks of celery and light mayo. The guilty feelings were there after but then I praised myself and expressed thankfulness for being healthy and good to my body and not abusing it. We all can be so horrible to ourselves man with diets.4

It's tough to compare ourselves to one another as we all have different challenges to manage... but I lost 50lbs in the first 3 months, 47lbs the following 7 months and the last 4 months I've been fighting like hell to keep it off and have been on an up and down 10lb rollercoaster. And I'd still like to lose another 100 lbs to be at my absolute goal. So I'm down 97lbs most days, this morning it's technically 93lbs.
I eat very low carb, 20-35g carbs a day, and can generally maintain my loss eating this way without counting calories, but if I want to continue losing, calorie counting as a mental control mechanism to get me to stop eating + VLC HF works well for me.7 -
28pounds over 9 weeks.
I was flirting with lchf for 2.5 years, I've been serious for the last 9 weeks.
I find that frame of mind is very important. The most I had moved prior to my decent frame of mind was about 12 pounds.

I set out to lose 35 pounds. From 165 to 130.
I lost 25 in the first 5 months. I stopped losing weight in September 2015 but since that time I've lost another full pant size without any scale loss.
I'm still 10 pounds from my original goal but I'm wearing a size 4-6 which is what I pretty much consider ideal for my 5'4" frame.
I still have more bodyfat than I want but I'm confident that in time it will continue to reduce. I'm not really working on it... just eating the way I know is best for me and still staying focused on following hunger signals so I'm not eating when I'm not truly hungry. I do feel that I need to stay mindful of that at times.7 -
Hi! I started in May 2016 lost 28 lbs so far I eat LCHF but I'm usually around 50-60 total carbs which I'm good with. I tried 20 but I was always going over. My blood sugars are excellent I'm T2D which is the main reason I started this WOE. I recently started watching both my cals and carbs which is moving the scale faster it made me realize that even with the natural appetite suppression of lc I was still eating out of habit which is why I was losing so slowly. Learn your true hunger cues that's been real eye opening to me2

I lost about 30lbs pretty steadily in 3 months and then another 10lbs in about 2 month. I maintained it (mostly for about 8 months) but then my health took a bit of a dip, and I was increasing carbs, so it led to about 10 lbs regained - I tend to gain when not feeling my best.
I think I lost a bit faster than average but I am insulin resistant and have some AI issues that responded well to the diet, plus were in an inactive state during that time... All my stars aligned. LOL Re-losing that 10lbs is slower going this time.3 -
I have lost 34kg in 4 years. I lost 0kg in 2016. I still have 14kg to go. I have been calorie restricted keto this whole time other than about 3 months last year where I had surgery - I was still keto but ate too many calories - hence the no weight loss, I actually gained and then lost about 5 kg for the year. Gaining weight is 1000% easier than losing it. I can put on a kg a week without even trying, but I have to work super hard to lose 0.5kg a week.
This month I've dropped about 2kg, but I've had to restrict my calories to a really low amount to make this happen. It's not sustainable. Everyone is different though, some people drop weight without trying very hard and some have to work for every gram. I remind myself though that even though it's been long and slow 34kg is a huge amount. I could still weigh 120kg right now if I hadn't done something about it.2 -
I am much newer than most of these posters, I have lost 12lbs in 14 days. But I notice a difference in the progress photos I have taken which is a nice change for me!4

34.5 in 3 months. Never stopping.8

I had been on this LC diet before, and lost the 30 lbs that I then regained when I returned to my love affair with pretzel sticks.
back at it since last sunday (1/15) and down 11 lbs.3 -
14 lbs. in 44 days.1

I lost 30 lbs between March and June of last year on 1000 - 1100 calories a day plus light exercise. Would not recommend this to anyone, some of what I lost was muscle because I was eating so little. I've had to retrain my brain to realise that the numbers on the scale are by no means the most important thing in order to gain back some muscle to be healthy.3

I lost about 50 pounds and 4 inches on my pants waist size last year. I did not really start tracking things until October when I was diagnosed T2D. I started LC to try to control glucose levels and around the middle of December hit a plateau with the weight. I stuck with the LC through the holidays and had a checkup to check A1C in early January that had me at 53 pounds down since the previous January's physical with the doctor's scales and everything.
I have since tightened up on the carb levels and calorie count. I seem to be losing again. If the scales this morning are correct, I am down 60 pounds total. Today's weigh-in may be a fluke, so I am not totally confident it is really down 60 pounds. I would like to be down 83 total on the doctor's scales in July. I want my glucose levels to improve some more.
My real goal is to get off the diabetes meds.2 -
31.8 pound as of this morning I'm 3 days shy of 4 months. I started and am still doing stricted low carb and then added a daily intermittent fast of 16 - 24 hours depending how I feel.3

I've lost 37 LBs in 4 months and 2 weeks...Starting weight was 194 on September 6th and at last weigh in I was 157...I did LC until Dec 19th and now I'm doing LC with OMAD.4

Hi, I just started Saturday, and I lost over 1 lb and stuck with it and bam this morning I am back to where I started. I'm staying under my calorie goal as well, walked my puppy 4 miles and had over 10K steps too. I know about fluctuations but dang. I also know I shouldn't weigh myself everyday, but I do. Sometimes more than once a day.2

I have lost 42 lbs in 3 days shy of 4 months. I live a Keto lifestyle and do not believe in cheat or refeed days. I eat no more than 20 grams of carbs a day.I do practice intermediate fasting. I have a 6 to 8 hour window of eating. I was a size 26/28 and now a 18/20. I have more energy and higher spirits eating this way.I consider this a way of eating for my life not a diet. I wish you peace on your journey,5

Don't let it get to you. If walking 4 miles is above and beyond your normal activity level, you're probably retaining water from the extra exercise. It's just temporary and certainly not fat gain.
I actually like weighing daily because it taught me how completely normal the ups and downs really are.2 -
I started January 2016, fell off the wagon over the summer, and re-started this fall, along with joining a gym. My motivation is a surprise 50th birthday trip to Cuba for my hubby at the end of February. In the last year I have lost 25 pounds, and after my 3 month re-assessment at the gym, I'm down 20 pounds (included in that 25) and 13 inches. I've gone from a snug size 16 pant to a lose 14, and could probably squeeze into a 12, but haven't tried yet.
I am a tad frustrated at the "belly roll" that just doesn't seem to want to go away. I've had a few slips here and there food wise (over the holidays) but when I have a bad food choice day, I start right back again the next day. I'm sticking to under 30g net carbs most days, some days I'm as high as 40. I don't think I'm getting enough fat in my day though.
I do feel better, and I'm no longer winded going up a flight of stairs. Daily gym visits are life now, not feeling forced into going. I bought 2 bathing suits - swim dresses - online and I'm really happy with how they fit (never thought I'd see the day).
I'm also not 20 any more! I know that being much closer to 50 than 40 and entering that pre-menopause state of life, it is much harder to take the weight off than it was 12 years ago when I did Atkins and lost 80 lbs. I also work with sugar for a living (cake designer) - I don't usually eat any of it, just a small taste here and there for quality control.1 -
27.5 lbs since the end of October. I also weigh daily, but I only log my weight when I go below my previous lowest weight!2

I began LCHF two years ago, and my weight was 231(the lowest Ihad gotten to after weight loss surgery!), and in June/July, 2016 I made it to a normal BMI (164). That's 67 pounds in 16 months. I felt 164 was too thin for my 5'8-5'9 height, so I've been maintaining 170-175 since then. Maintenance has seemed easy for me so far (somehow!)! Even adding some whole food carbs (sweet potatoes, mushrooms, onions maybe twice a week) before my health snafoo that began in September!4

I have been on this journey for a year now for weight loss and other health benefits.
20 kilos lost in 9 months low carb,
13 kilos lost in 3 months keto
- still 10 kilo to go
Best tips:
1. just keep on going, if you slip, get back on track with your next meal.
2. read the low carb forum for hints, tips and motivation (and often a laugh too)
3 . book mark the success stories and refer to them often (if they can do it we can)4 -
Wow it's really awesome to see you guys' success.
I started Dec26. In a little over a month I've lost 13lbs. I'm not a pure Keto dieter because I eat a ton of green vegetables, kiwi fruits, Greek yogurt and whole milk for their nutritional reasons. I'm absolutely 100% starch and processed food free dieter.3 -
I have lost 11kg since the end of Nov 2016. I had a BMI of 24 to begin so it's been a slow road but I have enjoyed it!
I am now 143 and will maintain at 141. Looking forward to eating 50g carbs per day and having some sweet potato!2 -
16 years ago I lost 85 lbs doing low carb.....but I didnt know thats what it was then. I just gave up bread, alcohol (except vodka) and dessert. I kept that off through my first jobs post college and marriage and then I had 2 difficult pregnancies that included bed rest, babies in and out of the, hospital, post partum anxiety and I gained 65 of those lbs back through comfort eating and a loss of focus on the exercise (triathalons) that make me happy. Frankly I lost me during those 5 years.
2 years ago my Dr said I needed to seriously consider eating less than 35 grams of carbs a day. I did that cold turkey and couldn't make it through the first 2 months. I gave up and went back, to comfort....food.
18 months ago (and frankly 5 years of therapy helped) I decided I needed to take care of myself. I didnt cold turkey it this time. I've worked the LCHF lifestyle so it meets my needs and I'm on my way back down to 200. Which is a good weight for my 5'11" height.
2 weeks ago the group at work started a new years change and I'm in it to win the 300 bucks. We will weigh in officially again Wednesday but my home scale says I'm down 10 lbs. I plan to be pretty hard core as a boost to my progress for the next 6 weeks of the challange, but this time I want to focus on healthy me. Not the immediate scale numbers. For instance, I got my wedding ring back,on for the first time since I had to take it off cause my fingers got too fat. I'm pretty proud of that.3 -

Great story! So happy to hear you're focused on health and not just scale numbers.
Last year @collegefbfan won a diet challenge and some cash.
I think I'm remembering the right person... hopefully...
You've definitely got a secret weapon on your side! I wouldn't be too eager to share it until after the contest!2
