How long for the carb cravings to stop? Do they ever stop? I almost sabotaged myself from stress and myself head telling me, yeah you need that ice cream

For me going to only 20 net grams per day stopped it. It varies for everyone, some of us can have more carbs than others. It only took a few days, I think by the 3rd day, I just didn't think of any foods between meals. I love this WOE for that benefit. I now eat higher, most days between 50-60 net carbs and enjoy my freedom from carbs.
Think of it like ciggies, some can cold turkey it, some taper off successfully, others are on patches for months on end, and some never over come it at all.1 -

I don't think I had carb craving after just a few days, but the habit of noshing in front of the tv every evening was tough to break! I used a mantra. I kept telling myself that I was making the choice for better health. This mantra was given to me by a wonderful older member here after I sent them a message, thanking them for their guidance, and he replied with the fact that I was making the choice to be here! @Fit_Goat has helped more people than he will ever know, just as you will by making the choice to be here too! Given time you will look back on these carb cravings as a bump in the road!5

My carbs have been higher this past week. But I was steady doing 20-30 everyday. Last year I was almost 45g daily solid. I was told my problem with carb cravings is not getting enough sodium so I'm gonna try upping that to curtail the carb beast. That could be your issue too. I try to find safe snacks tho inbetween meals when I tend to wanna indulge. For me lately it's been sugar free jello, celery, and sometimes iceberg lettuce with mustard or light mayo. I am gonna try chicken broth tho to increase my sodium and maybe just plain salt water with either Mio or lemon. But I'm wondering too if maybe I should forgo keto and just eat low carb with about 50g as my max.2

I ate low carb for 9 months and would often fantasize about and crave carby foods (without giving in) it was a bit of a mental struggle. After i went keto the cravings and all hunger between meals completely vanished. I just don't think about food at all any more2

First 2 weeks was very hard for me. I constantly thought about pizza and a bottle of white wine. Everything contains a bit of carbs except lean meat and few other things but I've completely cut out starchy carbs.
I eat a lot of eggs and avocado. Healthy fats help me not want carbs. I don't crave carbs anymore, it actually disgusts me now.1 -
For me, it was more about nutrition. On days I got better nutrition in, I craved less junk. On days I barely squeaked by, I wanted all the crappy foods... Just like electrolytes shift and can strike at any time, so too can the carb cravings. A lot of it for me is/was brain wiring. And working out when I did was the worst. My body wanted ALL THE CARBS...
Finding low carb swaps for the more likely culprits (crustless pizza, etc.) can help you find out if you're really craving the carbs themselves or just the comfort of them. Salt and tangy foods can often fill a sugar craving, because it's just what your body is wired to want, etc.2 -

@RalfLott - I really want to dig into that thread, but once a thread gets over about 10 responses, unless the thread title calls to me like Siren Song, it's hard for me to commit to digging into it without feeling overwhelmed. That one hasn't sung to me like that yet...0 -
I'm still a new low carb eater, but so far combos like avocado slices with bacon, or spiralized zucchini tossed with browned butter, garlic, and parmesan stop my cravings. If I want chips, I eat homemade cheese crisps or pork cracklins. I also replaced soda with KeVita sparkling probiotic drinks and flavored Perrier. Instead of ice cream I blend full fat coconut milk with a little stevia, unsweetened coconut flakes, vanilla extract, and 6 pecan halves, then freeze into popsicles. So far so good!

I've discovered that I'm not necessarily after the carbs, I'm after the texture of the carby food. For example I freaking LOVE potato chips dipped in sour cream mixed with hot sauce. I can successfully substitute pork rinds for the potato chips in that scenario.chickyniki_99 wrote: »H I almost sabotaged myself from stress and myself head telling me, yeah you need that ice cream
While It wasn't an initial goal for me to better understand why I do what I do when it comes to food, it's been a fabulous side benefit and now, something I'm more focused on. And as part of that process I've discovered I eat a lot for texture and taste combinations. Focusing on that crispy saltiness dipped in creamy fat means I don't HAVE to have the chips I need to find a viable substitute. Which, incidentally is why I've never found a LC pizza that is pizza enough to pass as pizza on my special snowflake palate.

My head keeps telling me I want Little Debbie treats but nothing else really. Maybe some pizza and Chinese food but that's out of being lazy and not wanting to cook. The Little Debbie craving is constant like I'm an addict. I use to eat a half a box in a day which is about 3-4 packages of a pair of cakes.1

That's how I was with chewy Lemonhead & Friends candy. I was eating a movie theater sized box a day!!! There was real addiction at play so I decided to treat it that way.
Since I took that approach, with my addiction recovered niece as inspiration, I never ate another single piece of that or any candy since that day.
Any time a sweet craving would hit, and even when it still does, I actually get a little mad at the craving and basically a voice in my head is saying "uh uh. No way. Ain't gonna happen. That's not me anymore" and I choose to deny the craving. I never saw it as denying myself. Only denying the addiction.3 -
