A Bunch of Arbitrary Keto Questions

I'm new and have been eating a keto diet for about two weeks. Does being hungry interfere with getting into ketosis? I know that we are supposed to eat until satiated, but I would like to know if being hungry can slow keto-adaptation.

Do BCAAs or glutamine (or any other bodybuilding supplements) interfere with ketosis? I check my protein powders.

Besides monitoring how many carbs one can eat, why do people test to see if they are in ketosis? Isn’t it supposed to be this glorious (that’s a bit much, I know) state of energy and fat loss? Wouldn’t you know if you weren’t?

How many of you guys are actually keto-adapted? How long did it take? How did you know? Was it a switch or gradual?

Thanks - Jeanne

To answer your second question, BCAAs and glutamine should not interfere with ketosis (unless you are taking an un-godly amount of them), since they are basically broken-down protein. I know that we have people in this group who have maintained ketosis eating well in excess of 200g of protein a day.

Some people like me are eating a ketogenic diet for medically therapeutic reasons. For me it's epilepsy, but there are lots of other conditions helped by the diet as well. In cases like that it's very important that we know we are maintaining a certain level of ketones/ketosis. It would also help us to identify factors that might be lowering our ketone levels so we can avoid those in the future.

Good to know! Hadn't thought of it that way. I am hoping keto will help my neurological disease.
