Me Vs. The Binge -- July 2017 Challenge

@hillmike56, @mae918, @Moxie42, I hit the same wall this week. I had been doing very well...then I had one near miss...and then, no miss: I got hit squarely. I didn't want to post the end of what was, for me, a good streak. But I reminded myself that it HAS gotten better, and even the bad night wasn't as bad as so many others in my past. There's something about posting here, even after a bad day, that helps.3

I'm gonna go ahead and call it for today. I'm studying like mad for my licensure exam and THAT apparently is a trigger for me -- Long forgotten since grad school was 5 yrs ago.. bleh. Better luck tomorrow.

I'm new here and LOVE this concept. I'm late, but I'd love to join. I'm going to count from today on.

@Nevadaden fully understand about not wanting to post. I try to go silent for awhile but I really need some type of community to hold my weight in check. Recovering from vacation has been tougher than normal. The BINGE' summer power is stronger than I thought.1 -

Binged last night. Nowhere near the usual amount of calories I have consumed in the past, but still surrounded by the same behaviors (not really hungry, wanting comfort, sneaking to eat quickly in private, etc)1 -

Still struggling big-time. Avoiding binges, barely, but eating sooooo badly. Going to meal plan and food prep tonight. I definitely do better when I plan. Hope this week gets a little easier for all of us!2 -

I had to work this past weekend and the weekend before it as well as the July 4th holiday so the associated "binge temptations" just weren't there. This coming Thursday I head out west (U.S.) for a 1-week vacation which will be more challenging since I haven't been on a vacation since my last binge (May 7th) & it's easy for me to get off track when traveling long distances. I've already got my meal plan done for the trip out since it's a long flight followed by a long drive to my destination while trying to stay on plan without eating crap at the airport (pizza!) or during the long drive (McDonalds!) to my destination.3 -
@BarneyRubbleMD - I hope you have an amazing vacation! Sounds like you have a great plan

Correcting last night's entry. Closed my diary and checked in here, thinking that was the end of it. And ended up binging big-time...ironically while I was meal planning. But I just quit smoking (again) and I know the binge was because of the anxiety and angsty feelings...it was truly a miserable night for both my husband and I. But today is a new day. At least I have my meal plan, workout plan, shopping list, and food prep schedule now. This should help make the rest of this week better.
Congrats @brittdee88 ! It's soooo hard to resist those urges sometimes- very happy for you!4 -
Thanks so much, @Moxie42! Stay encouraged! The fact that you quit smoking is HUGE! I have read in multiple places that we have a finite amount of willpower, so it might be a lot to try to focus on quitting and concentrate on being binge-free at the same time. You may have to just focus on quitting for now while you're adapting until it is an established, automated habit. Obviously, you want to make positive changes, but try to be gentle with yourself during the process when you're not perfect!2

@BarneyRubbleMD - Have a great trip. Sounds well deserved.
@Moxie42 - I think @brittdee88 has a great point there! Psst...remember to cut yourself some slack. Guilt is worse than any carb, calorie, or bad feeling!!!
@brittdee88 - Congrats! That's always a good feeling. And I do agree. Willpower is finite and will fail. That's one my favorite things I learned in the book, "Change Anything: The New Science of Personal Success." Amazing how it shifts one's perspective!
(hugs), pats on the back, and supportive and strong thoughts to anyone still out there fighting the good fight!3 -

Thanks guysI've definitely trying to be forgiving of myself because trying to quit smoking really does mess with my head! Thankfully the nicotine is out of my system so the struggle is all mental now, and getting easier. I've been substituting with exercise which is going really well. And working out makes me want to eat healthy! It's definitely the anxious/angsty waves that come and go that I have to be wary of but I've been buying healthy snacks so that if I do end up mindlessly munching at least I can try to keep the calorie intake resonable.

@moxie42 Smoking messes with your lungs and heart as well, facts most experts agree. The one thing about that battle is you can walk away from it and forget it. Our other battle The BINGE doesn't work that easily. A much tougher opponent.3 -

Checking in here has really been great for my psyche. It really makes me feel like I have accomplished at least one thing everyday. It's awesome.3 -

@hillmike56 - Agreed. I mean, forgetting it isn't so easy (I wish!) but the concept of quitting is simple- just don't smoke. I find the binge battle much harder as well because food is necessary- it's not as simple as just avoiding something; it's about controlling and moderating, and it takes trial and error to figure out what works and what doesn't. So far so good though- I'm actually loving the workouts (now that I can breathe) and it seems to be what is keeping the smoking and binging urges at bay.

I'm so sorry I haven't been on the board. I was out of town for almost a week and the past 2 days was catching up with things. Today was my first day back at work from vacation. I lost track so restarted as of yesterday.

For those of you who heard my struggles back in April and May... Things are finally lifting! In the last couple of weeks, I've been reminded that extreme stress combined with studying triggers binging for me.. but yesterday I passed my clinical SW exam and things should be looking up now
@hillmike56 - I popped into town quick last night for my friend's grand opening. Did you get out to Pour Taproom yet?3 -

@mae918 I was there after work Thursday great location. The goal was 32 oz but that was a new concept for me so 2 British Pints ... 40 oz. My wife really liked being able to sample all the different brews. I think they will do well. Congrads on your SW exam.3
