    Day 10 of Intermittent Fasting...

So, it is Day 10 of skipping breakfast and only eating lunch and dinner.
It is also day 10 of trying to stay under 1500 calories with this fasting approach.
At this point in time, I am not actually eating healthier food, I am just eating less due to only eating 2 meals instead of 3.
The result so far? A scale that yo-yo's a lot. I seem to go up and down within 5 pounds throughout the day. Perhaps this always happens and I am just now more aware of it due to my curiosity about intermittent fasting actually working as a weight loss tool.
Also, at this point, my fasting was a little shaky on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday (a few days ago).
The issue is that my 5 year old daughter keeps asking me to share breakfast with her in the mornings. I keep trying to say "no", but I end up having something small like a pancake or a piece of toast.
Normally, a little bit of food wouldn't seem like a big deal, but I have noticed there is a difference in my body when I completely fast (only drinking water) and when I have something small.
When I eat nothing at all and only drink water, I am actually not hungry. My body stays in a fasted state and the overall feeling is different. I dare say, it almost feels good.
However, if I eat even a little bit of food, I come out of this fasted state and actually get more hungry. This results in me eating more, blowing my fast and going over calories.
I think I'm going to just have to figure out a way to say "no" to sharing breakfast food and hope that my daughter doesn't try to copy my fasting habit. (She's already really skinny and needs to eat!)
Something else to note is that I tried 1 day of fasting for a full 24 hours before eating and only had dinner. This was not especially hard as I pretty much sat on the couch all day surfing the internet and watching t.v. I ended up having Olive Garden that night and about 1800 calories in 1 meal. I was nervous that it was going to hurt my weight loss efforts since it was over 1500.
    This was not the case.
The next morning I saw a 5 pound (total) loss! During the week I was seeing a 2-3 pound loss. When I weighed myself Saturday morning after fasting during the week I was 5 pounds lighter at 195lbs!!
My official weigh in day is Friday, so I will log whatever Friday morning says, but I am really liking this intermittent fasting practice. It's probably been the easiest method of weightloss I have tried so far.

Do not awaken the beast! That is what I call my stomach. A little bit of food is way worse than none at all. That is why this diet works for me period! You should plot you weight every time you take a measurement. You can do that in MFP. Then look at the trends. The trends are all that matters. On a daily basis, your body can go up or down a couple of lbs depending on how much water it is storing which is a function of how much salt and how much sugar you have been eating. It is also a function of the weight of the food you eat. I lose 2-3lbs every night just due to breathing during the night. Wait as long as you can to start eating. Once I start eating, I usually keep eating. There is no just a little for me cause I get very hungry once I start eating. Good luck!

Hahahaha! That's totally my stomach too - that's why I can't do a lunchtime OMAD...

Lunchtime or breakfast OMADs will not work for me either. More power to those who can do it if that works better for them.

Yes, I have discovered that I absolutely cannot "awaken the beast" before I'm ready to full on break my fast!

Thanks! I'm currently reading the book "The FastDiet" by Michael Mosley. Fascinating read about the science behind fasting and what happens with your body.

Hello! Just returned from a week long trip in Florida. My family and I visited 3 Disney Parks, walked a ton, but also ate lots of food. Fasting went out the window, so it's time to hit the RESET button!

Beginning tomorrow I am back to 16:8 intermittent fasting 6 days per week and OMAD 1 day per week (usually Fridays). 1500 calorie max per day. Here we go!

First day back to 16:8 fasting. Man I was hungry when lunch time rolled around. I ended up eating a little over 1900 calories. This is still better than my diet only a few weeks ago. Before fasting I would easily eat an average of 2300-2500 calories each day.

The only real hurdle I've encountered is some constipation. This has made me reflect a little more about the foods that I am consuming. Beginning today I have been intentionally reaching for more fiber in my eating window and drinking more water.

I'm experiencing the same issue. I don't know what's normal on a fast? I was wondering if I should take some tea that makes you go. Ha ha! Guess it's ok to talk about it!

Well....today marks day 20 of intermittent fasting.

In the last 20 days my weight has fluctuated quite a bit. The scale will move up and down within a 5 pound range daily. The lowest number I have seen on the scale is 195 lbs. This is a 5 pound loss from when I have started (and I'll take it!).

Last week I did spend a week in Florida walking around 3 different Disney parks. I was hoping that with the combination of intermittent fasting and lots of walking that I would lose some where weight. I even thought I felt slimmer by the end of the vacation.

Unfortunately, I didn't lose weight, but now weigh the same as my original weight 20 days ago! This was a disappointment. I am thinking this is due to the large amount of theme park food I consumed (without tracking calories), the sodas I drank and simply being off schedule.

I was still disappointed at the weight gain though. I suppose I will see within the next few days if it is just water weight or if I have truly gained weight.

Also.....something to consider is that perhaps I didn't really lose any weight to begin with? Perhaps through changing my diet that first week, I just ended up losing 5 pounds of water weight?

I am not giving up though. I am still very much enjoying fasting in order to cut calories and eat at a lower range.

So....20 days in the only hurdles I have encountered include gaining some weight after being on vacation and some constipation (which also may have caused some of the weight gain now that I am thinking about it?)

I am reaching for more fiber and water during my eating window. Hopefully this will help!

When we start OMAD the 1st week there usually is some water/food weight loss. If you have a splurge, you will also retain water and food weight also which will come off in a couple of days of being back on OMAD. Give it a chance the next couple of days and I bet you will drop 2-3 lbs.

I don't think Arizona is doing OMAD in the sense it's presented in our group. Only one day is OMAD, the other six days are IF 16:8, unless I've missed something since the opening post.

@ArizonaToast, usually the first weight loss, regardless of how one went about it, is water weight. However, that doesn't mean you didn't lose fat over the past month. The gain you had on vacation is more than likely temporary, though and you should drop it fairly soon. :-)
