@swenson19d - This in your post 'She wants to play, but is grumpy about it and has a come here go away vibe with an undertone of scratching your eyeballs out.' made me laugh... sounds like some people I know 😂
Don't be too gleeful with the needles and getting to stick people, they may not let you stay. Did you get your vaccine already, I don't remember? Here they are so short on people volunteering they are offering vaccinations if you volunteer to help.

@CMorning99 - I am so sorry about the promotion! It is always hard when you are so expecting it and then it doesn't happen for whatever the reason. Hang in there!

@rheddmobile- yay for your DH!! I had just read this morning that T1-Diabetics are supposed to be prioritized per the CDC but less than half the states have them prioritized.

@ddmom0811 - one of my favorite things (discovered by accident at a Packers Game at Lambeau Field) is hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps! Mmmm so good.

@RunsOnEspresso - That would be so frustrating! With all of the options and availability of things to make gluten free why are so many still so bad? I have had GF cookies and brownies that are delicious and others that honestly taste like dirt and that is a compliment.

@avidkeo - is the travel part of your regular job and they are sending you to help in other locations or a side job? I would go for the take away - sometimes you just need to do something unplanned. Maybe you can find something really yummy that doesn't wreck your plan?

Good news - the City/County agency that provides medical transport for Hilde got her a vaccine appointment! WhooHoo! They are picking her up to take her tomorrow and the nurse actually comes onto the van so she doesn't even have to be unloaded. Also means I don't go with her. I just hope she hears and understands all their questions.

@Avidkeo Love the updated avatar! hang in there and make the healthiest possible choice and call it a win while you are out of town. It's gonna happen and learning to make better choices when the choices are not great is still progress.

@CMorning99 Sorry about the promotion too. Little things like that turn out to be a blessing later. You just don't know yet that you dodged chaos.

@shanaber I have not had the vaccine yet. The numbers drop here in the summer and today was already 80. If the vaccine is only lasts 3-4 months, I'll wait until fall. And I want to have a conversation with the neurologist before any vaccinations. I am still enjoying a reprieve from the overwhelming pain and stiffness. The jerks have not returned to the level they were when I stopped the antidepressant... yet. It's moments like this that make me think all is well and I dont need a doc. I am going though in a few weeks regardless of how well I am doing. Glad Beanie made you laugh, she is a mess.

@RunsOnEspresso You know it's going to take a large lawsuit to get some of these folks on the ball with dietary restrictions. We had GI disturbances a few weeks ago, course work, and I was so perturbed that oats are not GF... I am like YES they are... DUH... but the book swears they are frequently contaminated with wheat... well, Oats are still GF. grrr. textbooks even. grrr. of course then when you take a test it says hey dummy, oats don't contain gluten.

@ddmom0811 I don't think I would like cold oatmeal either. I have one recipe that has you fix them overnight with water and then add milk in the morning to heat it up...also add sautéed apples, pecans, maple syrup, and cinnamon. It's pretty good.

@CMorning99 Sorry you didn't get promoted. That does suck. Hope the run helped get rid of some of the stress. Hang in there. Hugs to you!

@RunsOnEspresso Sorry your order was messed up and you didn't get to eat it.

@Avidkeo Love your new profile picture. Had to look twice to know it was you. LOL We all have days where we aren't motivated. Hang in there. You are doing great. I think a day off will do you good. And, you're right, one day isn't going to ruin your progress. You're doing great!

@shanaber I understand your concerns about Hilde. I went in with mom for her mammogram and was so glad I did because she couldn't understand half of their questions. Her hearing is bad, even with hearing aids. The masks make it so much worse because she depends on reading lips to help understand what people say. It's hard. I hope she understands and answers correctly.

@swenson19D You know, I have thought the same thing. Getting promoted brings a whole other level of expectations and duties. I currently do exactly what I would be doing if I had got the promotion, but no one expects it so they love it LOL It would be nice to get paid for it but meh.

I still have not been offered the vaccine even though I volunteered for it. It is a very interesting situation in the military regard it. Since it is no FDA approved, the military can't make it mandatory so there are folks who are declining. There is now a whole culture/conspiracy of if there will be covert reprisal if you don't. Each base is different. My current base is very level headed, and while they do put it in your medical records you declined (they have to document it somehow I guess), they are really trying to promote informed decisions and not restricting travel. My new base is not so much and are constant posting videos of "interviews" of Amn who got the vaccine and they all say "so they can see family"...meaning that the base restricts allowed travel to 1 hr from the base if you do not have the vaccine. I get it, I see both sides. We allow travel, but the member has to ROM for 10 days if they fly or go to a high risk area, and our folks know that they need to take into account how it will affect their teams...so far for the most part, everyone is fine with it...there are a couple folks do obviously abuse the system...but that is when I assign homework during their 10 day ROM LOL

I did not run yesterday and I went out for a birthday lunch for a coworker. When I got off work it was 40 degrees, raining, and windy. I do have a treadmill but I needed a good freakout sesh.

Today however I have made the decision that freakout sesh is over, decisions have been made, and time to commit to my actions (whether or not I know they were the right ones or not). Tracking calories today and have a 4 miler planned. The weather looks good so no excuses!

I survived 4 of the 6 hours of the vaccination clinic. I called it quits once the hip got sore enough that I couldn't ignore it any longer.

Then come home to having to clean the cat boxes. I think @shanaber has jinxed me on those. They never were so bad but cori is absolutely unmannered. Just a mess.

So of course now my hip and knee are so stiff and sore to even move.

I didn't get the vaccination. The news showed up to cover it. So maybe we'll have a photo for a covid scrap book.

I have new neighbors. They are busy making tractor noise... I hear y'all, maw and paw accents. No idea where that is. Deep South?

Perhaps some ice cream will help my leg-o.

@CMorning99 Sometimes a freakout session is necessary in order to move forward. Hope you got in a good run today.

@swenson19d Sorry your hip is bothering you so much today. Hope it gets to feeling better.

    Hey guys. Just checking in.

Thanks on the new pic. I felt the need for an update.

Re: Woking out of town. We need to make sure we have xray service 24/7 including a satellite site that's 1hr away. There are 2 radiographers who live there but with leave, illness ect occasionally we need to go and cover. That's what happened last weekend. They were both on leave and the person that had been arranged to cover lost her dad to cancer in the week prior. So I went. Same with last night, holiday leave and I volunteered to cover. Its good pay, we get paid for being on call but rarely actually work. We also get an away from home allowance for each day, so overnight it's 2 days worth.

I ended up getting Chinese, which was pretty good. I went over calories but dont care. It wasn't badly over. It was nice not stressing. And the motel didn't have cooking facilities anyway.

Today's been busy, I got lucky and got a vaccine appointment, as a healthcare worker. They had a few extra doses and I was lucky enough to get a spot. So got that done. @swenson19 stink you waited so long and no joy.

@Avidkeo I worked the COVID clinic, wasn’t hanging around for a vaccine. We had people in and out in 20 minutes with the 15 minute post vaccination wait time. With the doc thinking that I have neuro issues I opted to wait.

@quilteryoyo there is no more ice cream and I was forced to make due with yogurt. But that’s fine, saved me a few calories.

    good morning!

I am feeling pretty good mentally and sorta physically today. I am slowly wrapping my head around that I am about to pull chalks and start all over...again LOL. A couple years ago we were going through another tumultuous time and I was listening to a motivational speaker/guru and he was talking about the old though process of thinking in lack...kinda like that saying about if you pray about, you bring about it...so if you are always thinking, praying, etc about how you dont have enough money, you are always sick...you bring that energy to you. His advice was to sit and think about a time in your life or a memory that without a fail will bring you a smile to your face (physically), and while you feel that joy, be grateful in your prayers. I am so grateful for the money I have and will receive, I am so grateful for the work being put in to smooth my retirement, I am so grateful for the people who will come into my life to help me. I did that and I swear it worked, so many things just worked out. But it takes time, you have to do it for months/years..so I always make it a practice on my 10 min drive to work to speak out the things I am wanting in my life.

DH is starting to show some stress with the move, I am asking a lot of him. He has built a little empire at his current work area and the pay is amazing. He is going to stay here for awhile and think about it. I am not adverse to retiring up here for the job, but I still have a bit of an emotional dream of living on the ranch.

I got run it, had a cup of coffee at 1:30 and that helped the afternoon slump. I sprinted up the final .5 mile hill to try and beat the national anthem that plays at 5 pm...oof!

I got on the scale today and it seems my body was ok with a few days over cals.

Time to get to work and start a to-do list to get out of here in 45 days!

@CMorning99 I love your attitude. Your share/post couldn't be more opportune in my life. I am in that slump of negative thinking and will try to apply your motivational change. I have to say that perhaps you dh needs to be eased in to changes, like myself. Mine is back on the "when are we moving to hawaii", although I'd love too, change is not comfortable to me and I live in the fears of what if... to me the known is easier than the unknown. He'd pick up tomorrow if i just said "now. lets go". Even if it takes your dh a few years to wrap up his life's work, I am sure he will eventually transition to the retirement ranch where he can putter and take on new challenges.

I got in trouble yesterday. er wednesday.
We are not allowed to work on assignments during class and I got busted working on stuff. LOL! I apologized and was a "cry baby" over it citing that I was trying to incorporate class material with the assignments. I really was, but also was in a time crunch and was trying to make up lost time spent killing zombies and eating ice cream. So, I have special permission now to work on said assignments during class. I am not sure what to think about that. My story is a bit of both honesty and "cry-baby my world is sad and I cant deal". I am tearful today and was yesterday, I missed my antidepressant yesterday because I left out in a hurry and mistakenly thought I had some in the car. Perhaps after the neuro (that really seems to me messing with me), I'll relax a bit.
Dh is off to a funeral today for a cousin and he has one tomorrow for a friend of his dad's (who's past). I think all that is triggering too. I need to go to the cemetery and check on Alex's grave. I keep thinking something is amiss. Just to clarify, I did not actually cry to the instructor, I was just in a "me-baby mood".

@quilteryoyo How are you holding up? How's your mom? I wanna hug your dads jacket, maybe he's reigning in my wayward son.

    Hugs all.
G-d I hope this antidepressant kicks in soon...

@swenson19 oh oops. Im sorry, yes I remember you saying you were going to give sshots. It's good your instructor has allowed you a chance to do what you need. I hope everything is OK at Alex's grave.

@CMorning99 interesting perspective. I can see how if you always dwell on the negative then that's all you will see. Changing your thinking to see the positive will allow you to see all that positive.

I'm in a funk. After 2 really good months, this month as me down. Maybe the changing weather/getting darker? Im in a just screw it mind set. Bah. I really need a holiday. 5 weeks and I get a good long break from work. Can't wait.

@avidkeo So sorry you are feeling down. I hope the 5 weeks until your long break go by quickly for you. Hang in there.

@CMorning99 Sorry things are so hard for you too. You do have a great attitude about it. I also think that focusing on the positive helps put things in perspective. It's hard to do sometimes, but, when you can, it does help. I hope you and your DH can come to some sort of compromise. You have a couple of years to figure that out. Right?

@swenson19d I'm glad you were able to get things worked out for your class and are no longer "in trouble." Hugs to your DH on the deaths and all of the feelings that is dragging up.

Peppermint Vodka! I’m not waiting until Christmas time to try this!

Ok, the weekends at the beach condo just don’t seem to work with keeping weight off. I was happy to see I was down Friday morning, before we came here. And this morning I’m up four pounds. I know I didn’t eat that many calories and it’s the sodium, but still! We did eat at an outdoor Mexican yesterday so I know it’s that. I need to NOT drink at lunch. It’s rare but at Mexican restaurants I always want margarita. So I didn’t have one, but had a mojito which was amazing. I just feel like $#IT afterwards so it’s just not smart.

@swenson19d - busted in class - Oh no! Surprised in a way that they say anything about it. Usually in adult classes I figured they didn’t care. Though a friend took an English lit class in Cambridge over the summer a few years ago (this was for English teachers across the world) and a student was looking at her phone and the professor threw her out of class. Reminded me of Legally Blonde when she first goes to Harvard, lol. (Loved that silly movie). I’m still amazed at you pushing through school after the year you’ve had with losing Alex and the constant physical pain.

@ddmom0811 Mexican food does that to me too. I'm sure it will come off quickly, but it is frustrating.

Yesterday mom and I wound up driving to Wytheville VA for a memorial service for my sister-in-law's sister who passed away on Thursday. They don't know what happened to her. Her son went to work at 7 am and she was fine. Her daughter, who lives out of state, called her at noon and she didn't answer the phone. She always answers for her daughter. When her son came home from work, he found her, dead, in the kitchen floor. The police came and decided there was no foul play, so they didn't do an autopsy. The family was hoping for one to know what happened. They looked into having one done on their own and were told it would cost $8K. They cant' afford that, so they will never know. She did have a few medical issues, but nothing they knew of that was life threatening. It's really sad. Her kids are devastated....they are in their early 20's and their dad passed away a few years back.

The service was outside in a park, which was nice, and almost everyone wore a mask. So, I think it was a "safe" gathering.

Mom and I stopped at Wendy's on the way home and got takeout burger and fries for a late dinner (7pm). I was up almost a pound this morning. But, I am happy to be staying within a pound of 140. (My official weights for the last 4 week have been 140.6, 139.6, 140.0, and 139.6.) I'm hoping that will start going down again, now that I am exercising more. I would like to get back to 135, but am happy with where I am right now.

    Class
I am sure it is to discipline the younger students and the instructor cited that it was disrespectful to the instructor specifically when you are working on something from another course and unrelated to the lecture topic. So far it is expected that we will back to regular classroom time come fall. How crazy would it be that COVID becomes a distant memory? It's finally the new normal. I don't know if I can handle seeing a persons whole face anymore. LOL! How funny is it when you imagine what the other half of their face looks like then you see them and it is nothing like your expectations?

@shanaber How's Hobbes? I thought of him last night as I laid down.

@quilteryoyo WOW sorry to hear about your SIL's sister. I am confused with the autopsy, even with Alex they sent him to the ME for an autopsy. Seemed rather obvious the cause and if the police make the call? they are not medically certified for that. I'm not keen on the whole system and it really needs to be up to the family and the ME.

I ate ben and jerrys again. ugh, I really have to stop this cycle of netflix/hulu and ice cream.

We were told anything of a violent nature, so I guess if the police rule out violence then no need for ME to be involved. Seems rough since the family needs closure.

@quilteryoyo - I am so sorry for your SIL and her sister's family. I think it is also helpful to know what happened from a health perspective for others in the family. I mean it would be good to know if she had a heart attack or a stroke or something that could also affect her sister or the kids as they get older.

@ddmom0811 - I love Mexican too but it always makes me feel like a blimp. I am not sure if it is the salt and/or the carbs. I don't drink tequila so I usually have a beer if we go to a Mexican restaurant which also makes me feel so full.

@swenson19d - Hobbes is doing better. Not yet 100% but getting there. I took him for his first long(er than a mile) run/walk yesterday and he was wiped out when we got home. We went to agility on Monday and he did ok too and he is finally getting his appetite back. I am still giving him pumpkin with a bit of ginger though because he still has a bit of diarrhea which I think could be from the medications he was on.
Funny about the masks. I don't think I am ready to have everyone not wearing them again or not wearing it myself. It also means I probably need to get my lip waxed again 😂

@Avidkeo - how are you doing over this weekend?
I too have been in a funk all week - just didn't feel like doing much of anything after Monday. My week was out of whack with eye exam appointments and a vaccine for Hilde but nothing that should have upended my entire week. There were a couple of days where I just literally did nothing and just wanted to sit and cry. No idea why. I made myself go out yesterday and it was a good outing and I ran a bit more than I expected too. Then today my leg hurts and I don't want to do anything again. I am going to make myself go for a short walk and do at least 15mins of weights ala @ddmom0811.

Tomorrow I have an appointment with the cardiologist to check the pacemaker. Will be interested to see if there is a reason it has rotated.
I don't think I have updated recently on the IF. We are still doing it and for the most part I am getting used to it. I do need to make sure I eat enough during the day or I find I am hungry at bedtime. The good news though has been with DH. I have been tracking his daily morning blood glucose levels and they are consistently trending down. I have data in a spreadsheet from 12/01 through the first week of March and it is down 60pts! He also had an A1C test this week and it has gone down from 7.5 to 6.5 - apparently this is a huge drop. He was really thrilled with that test result. He has an appointment with his pcp this week and I am excited to hear her thoughts. Oh and he has lost 10lbs!

If it’s a natural death there usually isn’t an autopsy unless the family pays for it. It surprised me too when I learned this.

@quilteryoyo I’m sorry for your loss.

@shanaber great news about the glucose readings! 7 is the cutoff for “well controlled” so that is a good drop.

@shanaber thanks for thinking of me. I think new toy made yesterday a breeze. Took the kids for a hike, so rest day but walking? Then made dinner etc. No issues sticking to plans, and Sundays are usually the hardest. I think Thursday was just a funk cause another long drive out of town. And so soon after the last. I have one more this Thursday and will actually plan to eat takeaways. I just can't be bothered cooking when it's one night. The weekend way way easier.

Also, Weight is 66.9kg! Below 67 finally! That's helped. Been in the 67 range for a month was annoying. So I feel like that's given me my mojo. If I stick to it, I'll be in the 65kg range by the end of the month. And boy I want to see that!

@shanaber I was thinking the same thing about needing to know what happened in case it is something that is hereditary. It's hard not knowing what happened. I will be interested to hear what the cardiologist says about the pacemaker rotating. Congrats to your husband. That is a huge drop in the A1C.

    Thanks @rheddmobile .

@Avidkeo Glad you are feeling better and the funk was short lived. Congrats on the weight drop! That always makes me feel better too.

@shanaber - that's great about the IF and the sugar levels! Sorry you are in a funk. It just happens sometimes. I feel so full and miserable. Ate candy tonight (peanut M&Ms) - not sure what is with me either. And glad Hobbes is feeling better and close to all the way better.

I lifted today and was thinking - all this muscle is why my weight is up! But, no, my fat pants are way too tight. Also did a walk on the beach and the weather was perfect. The pool at condo was the most crowded I've ever seen it. We bought at the height of the pandemic so we probably have no idea how it will be this summer! And the beach was pretty crowded too.

@quilteryoyo - that's awful about SIL and all that. I think you've had your share of funerals for a while.

I did better today. It was pretty cold and very rainy and I really could have just done nothing again but I kicked myself in the butt, got dressed and did my yoga and some other stretching/strengthening exercises then did a 45min strength workout. Needed to get to my cardiologist appointment so had to cut the strength work short to get in the shower but got in 2 rounds of 8 exercises. As part of my yoga/stretching routine I have been revisiting my planks that I used to do daily - I have been doing 3 mins continuous (1 min reg, 30sec each, single leg, 1 min reg) So I lately I have been extending the time for each and adding a normal plank between each single leg plank. Today I thought I was going for 6 mins total and realized I actually was attempting 7.5mins! I didn't quite make it but made just under 7 mins! The limiting factor is my arms - they just get so tired holding in that position. But I can really tell a difference in my core/abs.
So all that to say that my weight is up a couple of pounds but my muscle mass is at the highest it has ever been since I have had this scale and my %fat is down accordingly. Could be a fluke or maybe it is being effective even though I am not doing a bunch of lifting - at least this last week or so for sure. I was honestly expecting to see the weight and fat numbers go up and the muscle go down cause I don't feel like I have really been doing much workouts or running.

Cardiologist appointment was uneventful. He said the PM will move around and eventually settle in. They really just want it to stay more towards the middle and not slide over near your arm. He was generally unconcerned.

Still no word on PT but I think the referral has been approved.

@ddmom0811 Thanks. I agree. I hope it is a while before I have to go to another funeral.
Too many people have passed away here lately. BTW, muscles can make your fat pants tight, can't they?

@shanaber You are doing great. Seven minute plank is awesome! I don't recall dad's pace maker moving at all. I'm sure we would have been concerned if it did. Since the appointment was uneventful, I'm assuming the PM is working as it should and you didn't have any weird things going on lately. Correct?

@shanaber Good news that the PM is fine and no concern. Great news running and the muscle mass vs fat ratio!

@Avidkeo Good to hear your weight is cooperating!

Nothing exciting here, and that's a nice change. Just chipping away at course work through the "break" LOL! I have so much that is due the second spring break is over plus two exams and two presentations... and test prep which is three more tests. AND the major clinical care plan that is 30-40 pages and I struggle with it. It is a do or die assignment, an 80% has to be made or you fail the class and have to sit out a year. yuck. I can not wait for summer. Of course, I'll be nuts with nothing for the summer but violin, unless the second opinion doc wants to do the hip replacement. Even then, I feel like it's the right net step, but not bought in to actually doing it. IDK, that's why its a consult.

ETA OMG Crazy sent me a FR on FB. I am a mature forgiving person but I'm gonna have to stew on that one... oh wait I already hit "delete", my bad.

    quilteryoyo Posts: 6,534 Member
@swenson19d Sounds like you have a LOT to do. It made me tired just reading the list. I hope the doctor's consult goes well. If you really know replacement is the next step, maybe you should just go ahead and get it scheduled. I assume that pain would go away if you do. I have a person I went to grade school with that I know is so full of drama. She has sent me multiple FRs on FB. I just ignore them. I know it may hurt her feelings, but I don't want that stuff on my news feed.

So i feel like an idiot.

I'm currently sitting in ED at work. So embarrassing.

About 9am I was driving home after dropping hubby off at the mechanic - he was collecting the car after some repairs. Decided to head home to relax for about 20 mins before starting work at 10. On my way home I started getting a bubble in my vision, hard to describe. It was really detracting but didn't affect anything. I got home and did a couple of tests looking into a mirror and realised the "bubble" was getting bigger and kinda becoming jagged.

I tried to google but couldn't really read the words. So thought I'd come into work and just ask the nurse what they thought. As I was driving in it got worse and worse until I couldn't really see properly. It was odd, like the centre of my vision was normal but went funny at the edges. I kinda realised I really shouldn't be driving but the hospital was less than half a mile at that point.

Got here, walked into Ed. A couple of Ambo guys looked at me and went are you OK? Sit down now. Nurse checked my BP which was high for me. Heart rate was a bit up as well. So they registered me and told me to wait.

About 20 mins later the vision cleared completely, though I still felt slightly headachy and just wrong. A bit shakey.

So I got put in a bed space, had an Ecg, taken bloods. BP was down to 128/78. High for me but normal.

Had to laugh, when they checked the ECG the dr commented it looks normal but it's a bit slow at only 52 beats per minute. Nurse replied "she did run 9k this morning". Ohhhh. Haha. I really like being enough of a runner that my normal resting heart rate is low.

Long story short. Everything is normal. Just waiting on bloods, probably another 30 mins. I think the upshot is ocular migraine? When I google I find pics that's perfectly describe the visual disturbances.

    So that's my morning.

    How are you all doing?
