Non-scale goals

I've kind of wanted a pair of leather pants for about as long as I can remember, but I've never bought a pair. Mostly because I'm cheap and because I know that the opportunities to wear leather pants (especially in Houston) are few and far between so shopping for them had just never become a priority.

Well, last winter, my husband bought me a pair as a surprise. (That man has a serious Rue La La problem) I'd reached my goal weight a few months earlier but I'd bounced about 5 pounds up and when I tried those pants on, I was technically able to get them on and zip them, but I mean, I couldn't exactly MOVE. I definitely couldn't sit down. He had to help me zip them - not my proudest or sexiest moment.

Well, I'm still about 5 pounds up, but I've been recomping and I suspect my measurements are more favorable now than they were then.

My goal is to be able to rock those leather pants this November for the GNR concert.

Do you have any weirdly specific goals?

I have some very specific goals. More performance related, but:

    1) Deadlift 2x BW (sooooo close)
    2) Squat 1.75x BW (little further off)
    3) Hold a handstand for at least 20 sec. consistently
    4) For the first time in my life, be able to do the side splits (this one is going to take years)
    5) Be able to do a muscle up
    6) Oh yeah, rock a bikini. LOL

My bf lives in another country. I applied for a PostDoc in that country. Next time I will be able to see him will be in September.
    • If I am lucky, I will be invited to interviews for that postDoc in September and will attend them while visiting.
    • If I am perfectly lucky, I will get the job.
    • And as a bonus, I want to be visibly fitter when I visit, so I can blow his mind away. ;)

So I am hoping (application is sent out) and working hard (gym, here I come) until about September 26th.

Okay, I went to try on those leather pants this weekend, just to see how far off I am. And the thing is, they're just never going to fit. The tightest part of them is the calves - and my calves aren't going to get smaller. There's not much fat on them now - they're all muscle.

So. Scrap that plan. I may buy some new leather pants. That I try on in person.

And if anyone is interested - I have a pair of nwt leather pants! Size XS. For those with skinny calves. LOL!

I'm tempted @JeepHair77, but I have the feeling there would be no way in hell they would fit over my thighs.

One of my non-scale goals is to have a specific feeling that I once felt on my trail runs: ease and exhilaration. I want to feel that euphoria on my longer route again.

There are a bunch of generic ones too: having my pre-pregnancy skinny jeans fit loosely; being able to rock some form fitting dresses at two weddings next summer; and getting my bum into Brazilian booty shape.

@mom23mangoes great performance goals. I think I need some more of those.

@jeephair77 I love that your hubs shops for you on rue la la. I get a lot of Williams Sonoma stuff (can't complain but, hint hint babe, get into the kitchen, lol).

In my early/mid 30s I bought a pair of board shorts on the beach in CA because I loved the style, they were cheap, and even though they were a size too small I thought I might be able to fit into them at some point (we've all bought that clothing item). A few years later I was going through a stressful time, lost a bunch of weight (not intentionally), and I was able to wear them for awhile. Now I'm in my mid 40s, still have the shorts, and been doing a serious weight lifting, cardio routine for about a year to get back into shape. I've been able to wear clothes I haven't worn in years so the other day, I thought, what the heck and tried them on. They don't fit my waist (yet), but they fit everywhere else. Holy cow. These are my new goal pants!

I also want my cake lifted and plumped enough to rest them on the subway railings hehehehehehe #noshame

So my goal is to get to a handstand and be able to stay up for a long time. The amount of strength it takes is crazy, to have that control is amazing to me. I can do a headstand and have been working on my forearm stand. Once I've mastered that I'll move to my hands. I love doing other tough yoga poses so it doesn't feel like working out just practicing, but it's fun and I keep getting stronger!

My goal is to have enough body confidence to have some risqué boudoir photos taken... so I don't cringe and crawl into the fetal position when I see them.

LOL @PrincessTinyheart ! That's what photoshop is for! No, seriously, I did some right before I turned 40. I basically crash dieted (no carbs) and did Jillian Michaels ab workouts for two weeks before. I looked really good, but then as soon as it was over I was like "GIVE ME ALL THE FOOD!!!" So I wouldn't recommend.

I was actually thinking about those pictures the other day. Thinking about the difference in my body just losing body fat and doing bodyweight exercise vs. what I look like now that I've been lifting for 1.5 years. Completely different body. Not sure which one I liked better.

Man, I should have done some boudoir when I was 39. I was all nervous about turning 40 and I was going to do all sorts of AWESOME things while I was still 39. I didn't do that much, though.

@PrincessTinyheart - I say do it, though. I know several people who have done some boudoir photos, and a good studio will make you look amazing, and will make the experience good for you. I think it'll give you MORE body confidence. Do it!

Yeah, when I said I wouldn't recommend, I meant the crash dieting, not the budoir photos! I'd definitely recommend those. I'm very shy and reserved, but it was a ton of fun. It helps that it was a good friend who did them and she put me at such ease. And she's super talented so she makes everyone look great. She also did my makeup and hair, which helped.

@JeepHair77 - let me know if you decide to do some and I'll give you my photographer's contact info. She seriously rocks. She also did AMAZING family photos for us a couple of years ago. You are looking fantastic right now, so I say go for it!

I would REALLY like to be able to wear shorts without being embarrassed. Going to take a lot of work. believe me. Sometimes I get depressed that at my age (58) the damage is irreversable without cosmetic surgery which I won't ever do. Best I can do is running and squats and losing weight. We are talking cellutite queen... ug. puke.

I had some taken a few years ago and, curiously, it lowered my confidence a LOT. The pictures turned out ok, but realizing how much work it took to make me look good (not even "hot", just pretty good) was a downer. For all the lighting, professional hair and makeup, posing and angles, etc. I was kind of disappointed and realized that I look far worse IRL.

I'm hoping that losing weight and toning up might hrlp, but I'm 45 now so I'm not holding out for a miracle LOL.

    Mine:

Eat 3 meals and 2 snacks a day which are preplanned the night before, staying within my caloric range. At least 50% nonstarchy vegetables.

Workout 90 minutes 6 days a week at increasing levels of intensity and weights.

    Establish a consistent sleep schedule.

Be able to wear a size 6 comfortably--my long term goal to be achieved by this time next year.

One my goals is emotional: I want to feel like I "own" my body. At one point in my life, I was 14% bodyfat, eating completely clean, and climbed 54 flights of stairs in a local tower running competition in 9 minutes. It took a lot of focus, but I enjoyed it. In the last few years, my body has fallen to the bottom of my list of priorities, and what they say about taking care of yourself first is true. I was happier and calmer when my body felt good and I felt good about my body.

Signing up for an 11k fun run on 1st October and would like to be able to complete it in under 70 minutes.
This will be quite an achievement as I only started running at the end of March.

Speaking of pictures, here's an odd little goal that's motivating me right now. Eat lower carb for a week or 10 days, starting now, so my face will thin out a little bit more for my drivers license renewal picture. It's so stupid but that picture has to follow me everywhere for five years so why not have my face looking less puffy if possible?

hahahaha all my stuff was stolen in nepal (by all i mean all) and i had to replace my driver's license. i got lost on the way to the traffic police centre, it was mid-noon with 34c heat and and 90+% humidity and i was sweating profusely. let's just say the photo on my new driver's license is horrifying. i actually had red blotches on my face from the sweat-induced rash. ):

i hope your photo turns out nothing like mine!

Reminds me of my passport photo, I was having the worst day, so for 10 years I was stuck with a photo that would not have been out of place for a murderer's mugshot, complete with murder eyes. Doesn't help I have RBF (resting b***h face).

Yup, I have a passport photo like that too - I had been robbed and had to get an emergency passport in when in London. The morning was freezing, so I was bright red in the face, I was full of a head cold, and the embassy had the cheek to charge me £700 for the one-day turnaround so my RBF was set to maximum. I was very happy when that passport expired!!

This is making me chuckle smugly, I've just renewed my passport, goodbye 8 1/2 month pregnant beached whale face, hello "normal" me. I look 10 years younger rather than 10 years older. So pleased. I can get my ID out and be proud now!!

    1. Be able to running a 10k under 50 minutes again
    2. Get back to sample size so I can snag goodies at sample sales (and wear my own samples haha) :D
    3. Hold the scorpion pose
    4. Side splits

Ok, so this is a little shameful after seeing @arielxo post about 10k in under 50 minutes.... BUT i would love to be able to run/jog a mile in under 10 minutes. I just jogged my first timed mile since high school (I'm 22 now), and it took me just under 12 minutes. I've never been fast, but I'd like to get closer to my high school best of 8.5 minutes/mile.

    1. Go to a yoga class even though I'm not happy with my body.
    2. Ease back into an Intermittent Fasting program called Fast-5.
