@clepant - Wow! That really bites! My brother teaches school so I get the whole change of administrators leads to trashing any program that isn't his pet interest. However, it didn't cost him anything. It was more shade and produced more oxygen than grass. It was a great Biology teaching tool. I'm going to guess that he is not a science major. You have my sympathies.1

Thanks everyone for the encouragement, I know deep down I am doing the best I can with the time and energy I have, but it's hard not to get discouraged. I’m trying to find that balance (again), I have an email in to my supervisor to tell me NO if I offer to take on any more projects this week.
I’ve added another 6.25 miles for a September total of 38 miles.
So let me get this straight Dave, We’re feeding walkers and runners to the alligators and leopards or dropping deer (deer parts?) on them. Hmmm, maybe the boring walk around my neighborhood is looking more appealing today. I’m willing to take on the bunnies and the squirrels.
@clepant All I can say is wow. At least you were able to be there instead of it coming as a surprise.
@anaconda Sounds great to play on the freeway before it opens to traffic. And it does sound like you had a pretty nice view too.

k80fec: Easy on those knees girl.
Janet: Congrats on you 10 in the heat! It was oppessive here too and I did a 10k in the same temps today. Mile 5 is all uphill on open highway and full sun. The asphalt sucks the life out of you. 10,000 running and all you see is a sea of heads ahead of you climbing this hill.
Adding 10.2 miles of running and purposeful walking. Then I went to my school bird garden to dig up three shrubs for 2.5 hours because my boss decided it was not a nice look and they are coming to reseed it with grass next week. 20+ years of tending them and someone new comes along and wipes it out. Plus never a thank you for the hours my hubby and I put in taking care of them. I shall say no more. Better I watch them destroy them now as to coming back next year and seeing them gone.
TTD: 310.2
@clepant - congrats on the 10k in the heat. Your description is perfect. We had 15,000 runners so I can perfectly picture the sea of heads. At mile 6, I started feeling woozy and had to slow down. I began walking anytime I was in full sun or going uphill. Fortunately, mile 10 was downhill so I was able to finish at a run.
That is terrible about the bird garden. I agree with Dean, this is clearly not a science guy. And don't get me started on replacing it with grass. You would think with all the drought and crazy weather, and the algae blooms from fertilizer run off, people would start to get the message that lawns are not such a great idea .... Sorry, didn't mean to get too preachy. Well, I say thank you for your 20 years of tending garden.2 -
Last week was not good for me but got out again yesterday and today now TTD 94 miles1

Saturday, I rode my first ever Century ride, so adding 100.47 miles. It was brutally hot and we climbed almost 4,500 feet, but I'm glad I did it!
