Hello and welcome @smithmssycatsmithiris30. You may find the link to the following article interesting specifically with respect to arthritis:

    http://www.health-science-spirit.com/borax.htm

Interesting you would post that about Borax. As an organic farmer I add borax to my fields. I started on the advice of a friend who found her vegetables had fewer problems growing with the addition. It certainly makes for healthy plants and has prevented our tomatoes and squash from getting blossom end rot that we use to get every season and most other people experience around here regularly. I never researched borax as an organic fertilizer supplement and the organic farm inspectors never found fault with the additive. So, I continue to add it to my compost before spreading it.

Thanks for the info on it.

@cedarsidefarm ...that's pretty neat that you are an organic farmer! You may also want to check out Baja Gold Salt (trust me on this one). Here's the link for you:

    http://shop.seaagri.com/Fertilizer-and-Livestock-Mineral-Products_c2.htm

It's a wonderful all around salt but it also yields wonderful benefits for farmers that use it too (check out their testimonials)!

Okay... I have to go read this article... we use Borax to kill ants. I'm equating it to drinking bleach and that just can't be right lol

Borax or Boric Acid, @kimberwolf71 ? Distinct difference.

And the industry conspired to make us consider it poison. Just like so many other things...like, oh, I don't know, FATS! Ugh... Worth a read and research.

Hmmmm, after reading, I'm not sure boron is my problem as I have very healthy strong teeth, and the bones of a robust 20 y.o..... perhaps it's just all the sport and accident injuries I've sustained over the years?

@canadjineh - I never had problems with my teeth, really, nor with my bones (only one broken, ever), so I don't know if that is a marker to judge by. For me, I started out with the Borax, as a trial, since I had it on hand. Once I wanted to increase my dosage to more therapeutic levels, I switch to capsules, and I've never looked back...

I read somewhere that Boron deficiency is as prevalent, and just becoming accepted as to how critical deficiency is in the nutrient, as MAGNESIUM... I think all of us here understand the true impact of magnesium... This shocked me enough to at least try the Boron...

I ended up getting the leg pains I had a few times before I took the Boron twice a day...and I don't think I've had a single leg pain since. I don't know if I was that deficient, if I absorb it that poorly, or if my need for it (being a thyroid patient, etc.) is just that high, but it has made such a change for me.

My theory is that it can't hurt to try it, and you can always stop. Boron is one of the most inexpensive supplements I take.

@KnitOrMiss how much boron do you take a day?

I have just bought some multi vitamin one per day tablets, that also contain boron & magnesium. The magnesium at least is having an effect.......... Hmm. :)

Right now, I'm taking at 3 mg capsule of Boron twice a day. I prefer the Life Extension brand, as it seems to be absorbed better by my body, and it runs about $7-$10 for 90 capsules. @RAC56

EDITED TO ADD: Over the weekend, I missed my AM dose of Boron both days. By Sunday night, my leg pain had returned. I don't know the full extent of the correlation, but once I realized the pain, I took Boron then, and within 1 hour, the pain was easing, and it had resolved completely within 2 hours...

@MissyCHF - I haven't found any indications anywhere that suggestion interference with Boron absorption, but I personally found out the hard way that I cannot take magnesium and zinc together - they compete or the zinc somehow depletes the magnesium. It was AWFUL! Cramps and all kinds of misery. So I time them at least a few hours apart these days.

It's part of why I deconstruct a multi-vitamin so that I can split things up to different times and different amounts that I personally have found beneficial! I learned a lot of from a book called "The Micronutrient Miracle" by Jayson and Mira Calton... I have found some supporting research elsewhere for the same topics, but haven't independently confirmed every competing nutrient they indicate.

(Context - Mira had severe osteoporisis in her 20's, and Jayson was her doctor, and they went to unconventional lengths to heal her. After spending so much time together on shared passions, they fell in love, got married, etc.)

I've absolutely no connection to this work, I'm just a fan of the data! :)
