Move More in May

I like this idea for a thread title Donna... now that the weather is warming up and it is lighter longer in the evenings I hope I'll get some enthusiasm going for being more active.
Work to do tonight. And laundry. Going out with my brother tomorrow evening for a drink so I'll be a little off plan, but after that I don't think I have anything for another 3 weeks to tempt me away from 100% ETL.
B - luna bar
L - big ol' salad same as yesterday, couple wasa crackers
D - sauteed chard with some great northern beans, watermelon

That's the thread title I was going to pick from Donna's suggestions too, Mihani. Thanks Donna!
I have not been using my new treadmill..the weather has been too nice! I've gone for a few walks, but I've mostly been doing yard work. This weekend I think I'm going to tackle weed whacking the taller grass and brush around the barn. We want to cut back the blackberries too before they take over. My car could use a wash, too. Endless things to do around here.
Donna, I don't know the names of all of the plants we have growing here. We have Azalea & Camellia bushes, Rhododendrons, Hydrangeas, Tulips, Daffodils, Peonies and Bleeding Hearts to name a few. And various flowering trees including dogwoods, and several Japanese maple trees and other colorful ones can't guess the names of. I think people have been adding over the years.
Have fun with your bro tomorrow, Mihani!
I have to smarten up with my food. I've gotten lazy and while Joe was gone I got back into snacking and had too many "meals" of cereal or trail mix.
Here are 2 of the yarns I finished over the last few days. I'm now spinning up some undyed yarn that I'm going to try dyeing after it is spun. I picked up some primary colors from Dharma Trading to play with.

Had fun tonight. Back on track tomorrow. I just got Dr. Essy's Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease and the cookbook too. My mom died of a heart attack when she was a year older than I am now, and I have had a few worrying symptoms lately. I know it's not ALL diet, there is my stress and my history of smoking (which I still struggle with now and again although I do go weeks without cigs these days) and lack of regular exercise, etc., but I am going to try to do everything I can to avoid my mom's fate. I sort of have this "I'm going to beat this" attitude going right now. Starting with losing some more weight and truly committing. I did great for the 6 weeks but I have let more and more slips in since then and that's just plain out stupid. I've been doing this for years, going full on then sliding back, and I'm done!
Breakfast and lunch were same ol', dinner was drinks and appetizers which were not ETL at all, but tomorrow is back to "normal" and I would like to think that ETL is my "normal".

Carla, yarn is beautiful!!!0

Hello all, I feel like I keep slinking back here with long gaps in between. Lots of ups and downs recently. Right now, I don't want to be "all in" with ETL (or McDougall or Esselstyn), however, keeping a foot in both camps (WFPB and non-WFPB) means slow progress. I'm learning to be kind to myself and discover what I like in the WFPB menu. I do believe, in the end, that this slow pace will lead to long term benefits.
Spring has come and I'm enjoying outdoor walks. I've been off my routine for a couple days, though, as I absentmindedly took the wrong cup of meds at bedtime Wednesday night. Instead of 1 evening BP med, I took 3 (the one I was to take at 8 pm, and the two I was supposed to take at 8 am in the morning - instead of reaching for a statin at bedtime I took the morning cup of meds instead). Wow, did my BP bottom out! I was pretty useless yesterday and this morning. I don't recommend this mistake, lol.
Carla, the yarns are beautiful. I especially like the darker one - I can just imagine a lovely Fall sweater in that.
Mihani, as I think I mentioned back when I joined this group, I had a stent placement in Dec '17. Coronary disease was not even on my radar. I just turned 55, my father had a massive heart attack at 58, my brother died of a heart attack at 68 (well, he had a birthday while in the hospital so actually died at 69). It is too, too easy for bad habits to cause amnesia. It just takes a moment of remembering my family to set me back on path. Keep up the good work!0 -
Good way to put it C&P... amnesia. I've had some mild health issues over the years and was always able to fix them by cleaning up my lifestyle, but then eventually slip back into bad habits. I'm hoping that I'm done playing russian roulette with my health lol. I've started reading Dr. Essy's book and it is good so far.
I'm going to get back into the mindfulness and yoga practice starting today and try to start getting my stress under control.
Plan for today...
B - oatmeal with blueberries and oat milk, chia seeds and cinnamon
L - big ol' salad, an apple
D - pita pizza with loads of veggies and greens
1 -
We all have very good reasons to stay on track, but it just isn't easy to do it all the time! I hope that we can encourage and inspire each other to keep at it.
I did about half of my batch cooking today. After 2 weeks of not batching, I have verified that it is crucial for Joe and I to have appealing food prepared and ready to go! This week we're doing one of the plans we skipped while he was away, the Cinco de Mayo week. We'll be having Mexican Corn & Rice stew w/ Refried Bean Dip & chips, Jalapeno Poppers w/ Chipotle Ranch chopped salad, A Fajita rice bowl with crushed chili-lim corn chips, roasted veggie nacho sandwich, and frijole tostadas w/ pan-roasted corn salsa and fresh pineapple. I'm also going back to my smoothie breakfast instead of cereal, and being consistent with salads for lunch.
Joe picked up more tomato starts today. They were on sale for 49 cents each. We are going to have a LOT Of tomatoes this year! I might have to get a pressure canner to process the excess.
B - Rip's Big Bowl of Banana Walnut cereal w/ almond milk
L - salad w/ asian sesame dressing and tofu
D - Amy's vegan pizza
S - popcorn, trail mix
Back on track on Monday!

Hi
What beautiful yarns. I can't believe you made those. Wow, do you make something for yourself or do you sell you yarn?
C & P - welcome back. Do what ever works for you and your health. It is your private journey.
Everyone keeps asking me how I lost weight and I tell them ETL...but now I would say I am more Mediterranean diet but without cheese, chicken or meat...just fish & eggs occasionally and lot of beans, hummus, vegetables & fruits. I try not to add olive oil to foods because I believe Dr. Fuhrman and I would rather eat whole olives.
Mihani - I agree with not playing russian roulette with foods. I have a friend in her early 40's who has tried several high fat/high protein diets in the last two years including Trim Healthy Mama, Whole food, Paleo and last one was Keto. She had been very critical of my mostly vegetarian diet and not getting enough protein about 4 months ago and now I am down 40 lbs total, plus biking, swimming and starting to slowly jog (can't call it running).
Anyways, she has had numerous health problems in the last 9 months. She is maybe only 25 -30 lbs overweight. Last week she found out her left anterior descending coronary artery (the widow maker) was 45% occluded. She does not have a family history of heart disease. She says it is due to bad flora in her gut....she has consulted a nutritionist who before they even found out she had serious blockage in her heart had told her to cut down on meats and fats and increase fruits & veggies. She insisted her body runs better on protein & fats, until now. I think she was very shocked that her coronary arteries were so bad. Poor thing. I think she is an example of how a high saturated fatty protein diet can harm your body.
My pathology report came back that it was precancerous polyp. Nothing more to do but frequent colonoscopies and eat more fiber (yay)
On another note, my Rookie triathlon is tomorrow. I think the water with be 74-76*...yikes.
I am ready. The 20 mile of bike riding last weekend really helped...my ride tomorrow is only 11 miles. I have had more carbs this week. I can cut the extra carbs out after this event. I am nervous about the open water swim....but then I use to dive and snorkel a lot so its not like I have never been in open water before. The bike ride will be fun and the run...if my energy is good I will "run" and if not I will walk.
0 -
Good luck on your triathlon today Donna! Glad they got the polyp removed but that's scary it was precancerous.
That is sad about your friend. My bloodwork (which I admit I have not had done for several years and my doctor is mad at me right now) has always been good even when I've been overweight and I credit being vegan for that at least. I do have a family history of diabetes though, so being overweight at all is not wise. I could tell my blood sugar was out of whack previously, but since doing the 6 week plan and dropping 20+ pounds it has been fine. I didn't manage to get myself going last week, but didn't go too far off the rails and have maintained my loss. Going to start another 6 weeks today. I have it all marked out on my calendar like I did before, and will give myself woohoo stickers for every good day. It's silly but it really helped me to see all those days with stickers, made me want to keep achieving them.
Carla your menu this week sounds deeeeelicious! I love tomatoes, wish we lived closer and I could relieve you of some of the excess tomatoes this summer lol.
Went shopping yesterday. I had a gift card and looked at Instant Pots but didn't see the one I wanted. I think I'll have to get it from Amazon and will wait until later in the year. I did buy a new non-stick skillet instead. I only had one left that isn't all dinged and scratched. I used the new one last night and it is really nice. Heats quickly and evenly. I was amazed how expensive skillets are... guess it has been a while since I've looked at them. This one is a cuisinart and on sale for $30 so I lucked out there. Most were $80+.
Also went to the grocery store and my refrigerator is bursting with greens and veggies and fruit. I love opening the door and seeing all that green! I am going to get back to my basics of salads, lots of sauteed greens with onions and mushrooms and beans, and probably try to get back to the 2 meals a day that I was doing before once I get through the first week or two.
I finished Dr. Essy's book yesterday. It is well written and an easy read. It's very similar to Dr. F of course, but interesting that Dr. Essy says alcohol is just fine (not that I plan to drink during the next 6 weeks, it's all empty calories and makes me susceptible to bad food choices) and he allows no nuts if you have had heart issues. Walnuts (very limited) are allowed if you have not had heart disease. The Essy/Engine 2 style of diet allows much more in the way of whole grains also. I like that, but find that eating too many grains causes my weight loss to stall so the ETL 6 week plan is best for me for weight loss. Which reminds me, I also looked for big pretty bowls for salads but didn't see any that I liked. I think I'll have to go with serving bowls. Standard salad bowls are not sufficient for the BIG salads. The recipes in Essy's book are by his wife and daughter, and Ann says that they often eat more salad between the two of them than you'd generally find at a dinner for eight. I could sure relate to that!
Karrie, hope you are doing okay and the house has sold! Lia, how's it going for you?
Plan for today:
B - oatmeal with blueberries, chia seeds, cinnamon, oat milk
L - big ol' salad, apple
D - small salad, sauteed rainbow chard, great northern beans sauteed with onions and mushrooms
I'm very chatty this morning. I think I'm actively avoiding heading to the office but should get a move on!
1 -
Hi!
I finished and I was not the slowest or the oldest. It was a lot of fun. The open water swim was actually the easiest part. The 11 mile bike race included 5 big hills that were very challenging. The two mile race after the bike would not have been that bad if I was a faster runner but my knees were a little ouchy after climbing the hills. I had not trained on big hills this spring. I am looking forward to the next one in August.
Good night. Have a great week.0 -
Happy Monday in May -
Mihani - I agree about too many grains. I enjoy lentils and quinoa but anything else such as faro, burger, wheat grains seems to prevent me from losing weight. I was very inspired last week to restock on healthy foods but knowing we were going to be gone over the weekend I did not want things to go to waste. I went to TJ's and bought several packages of vegetable and grain mixes such as TJ's Quinoa Duo with vegetables. To that I added chopped roasted cauliflower, broccoli and sweet potatos and white northern beans and seasonings. It is an easy quick meal and also good on a lettuce mix. I bought TJ's melodious blend with green garbanzo beans, red & green lentils with tomatoes. I am going to add edamame beans, red peppers and onions to that one plus seasonings for tonight.
Thank you everyone for your support and encouragement. Last fall when I was very lonely having just moved to Texas and Brooks was deployed for the hurricane victims I found this site and you all have been a wealth of information on eating and cooking healthy.
Mihani - I have several bowls but I think salads look the prettiest in big glass bowls. I have found several at thrift shops.0 -
Mihani, it would be great it we were neighbors! We'd probably both get in more walking going together. I would be happy to share our tomatoes too. Too bad they don't mail well! I use serving-sized bowls for our salads. My mom always freaks out when I pull out the "huge bowls!!!" and requests a smaller one.
Donna, so good that you got your test done and got the polyp removed! So far you are really rocking May's "move more" theme. Congrats on completing the triathlon! Have you been going to the outdoor pool often now that it is open? I don't sell my yarn and I don't know exactly what I'm going to do with it. The purple one is very soft and made from merino and silk. The darker one is scratchy so it will likely get used for a tapestry or rug. Right now I'm weaving a shawl/stole last minute for a mother's day gift for my mom. I'm making it with commercial and my hand spun yarn. My MIL is coming over for a visit and we're going to make some cards together. I have to dig all of my card making supplies out from the bottom of the pile in the closet! I hope she's going to just play around and make her own things because I don't really have a plan or any ideas at the moment.
I just had my 2nd physio appointment. I haven't noticed much improvement yet, but it has only been one week. My physiotherapist helped me to switch out a few of the stretches that were bothering my knees. I am still working in the yard rather than walking since there is so much to get done. It turns out that we already had 4 of one of the plants that I bought the other day! I hadn't noticed them in particular until I was in the area doing some trimming. They are much more mature than the little guy I got. The next time I'm out there with my phone I'll take a comparison photo for laughs!
B - smoothie
S - popcorn, date & cashew ball (oops)
L - baked tofu, mixed baby greens, sesame dressing
D - Mexican corn & rice stew w/ bean dip and homemade corn chips0 -
I'm grilling a portabella mushroom for dinner this evening and serving with a big salad. I may wrap the mushroom in a whole wheat tortilla. Haven't decided yet.
I picked up some more Kashi cereal today as I was getting bored with oatmeal. While at the store I grabbed some organic frozen fruit bars. When I got home I saw that instead of berry, I'd grabbed coconut! I'm gonna eat them nonetheless, as I'm the only person in the house who likes coconut.
It was warm here today (85) when I took my walk. About halfway through I got weak and dizzy. I will monitor my BP for a few days. It could be that healthier eating, weight loss and exercise is naturally lowering my BP? If so, it may be time for a med adjustment. My sister in Austin, TX did say that exerting in warmer weather causes her BP to drop. (But 85 and low-humidity is a far cry from 110 in the shade that she refers to.) We'll see.
It was a gorgeous day in MN! Tree buds are just about ready to open and perennials are starting to peak through the soil. Loving it!0 -
Woohoo Donna! So awesome you did that triathlon! I like TJ’s frozen items too, although I have to be careful as some have added oils. Glad you found our little group too! You are fun and really inspire me with your active lifestyle. Now that you mention it, I often serve up my salads in one of my clear glass mixing bowls, and you’re right they are very pretty.
Carla, be sure to take a pic of the shawl. Love seeing your works. How do you prepare your baked tofu? How is Ruby doing?
C&P love grilled portobellas although I don’t have a grill so I either have to use a skillet or broiler. Hope you are feeling better.
Busy busy day just wrapping up some work and going to have a cup of tea and head to bed.
B – oatmeal with blueberries, chia seeds, half a banana, cinnamon
L – spinach salad with peppers, mix of balsamic and brown mustard, nooch, an apple
D – big ol’ salad of spring mix, chickpeas, cashew caesar, couple wasa crackers
I didn’t have time to cook tonight but definitely need to get on that tomorrow. I don’t want any of the wonderful produce I stocked up on to go bad.

Mihani - I don't know if Dr. F recommends grilling vegetables but grilled vegetables are delicious. Especially portobello mushrooms, egg plant, zucchini and red peppers. You might think about getting a little indoor Foreman grill to play with. In fact this weekend I am going to experiment with TJ's whole wheat pizza dough and vegetables minus cheese and thin layer of tomatoes in the grill....kinda like Amy's vegan pizza. In Northern Italy almost every place has a side dish you can order of grilled vegetables. It comes dry and you can add olive oil or balsamic vinegar. I still have dreams of the pear, walnuts, raddichio mushroom pizza i had in Italy.
Carla - I think you could sell those beautiful yarns. Maybe have a simple card in mind for MIL - or if she is crafty she will know what she wants to do. I am experimenting with new paints. I made this really ugly background card and then found the perfect stamps later on to go on it.
Here is a simple card I made for a friend

Great pic of you and Brooks, Donna! The cards are pretty. I don't grill much. I gave my grill away many years ago because it had been so long since I had used it chipmunks had set up housekeeping in there. I used to grill veggies a lot though, and they are so good. I am happy with my saute, steam or roast thing now.
I have been crazy busy and haven't prepped all the food I bought on Saturday so I'm on it tonight. Going to cook up broccoli, asparagus, chard, collards, kale. Some great northern beans with onions and mushrooms. Some cheezy chickpeas. Shred beets and carrots in the food processor for salads and steam the beet greens. Chop up peppers and onion for salads. Make some salad dressings.
I bought into the Hello Nutritarian prep guide. It's $39 and she is coming out with a new one soon which will be more, but if you buy before the new one comes out you'll get it for free. I haven't put the plan into action. It's too much prep for me to think about right now working so much, but still some good ideas and recipes, and they have a private facebook group that I joined. To be honest, when I try too hard to cook real "meals" then I end up giving up. I just don't have time or energy and it's just me so things end up going to waste. I would like to get back to trying some new recipes on weekends though.
B - oatmeal with blueberries and chia seeds
L - big ol' salad with a mustard/bragg's dressing and chopped tomatoes
D - great northern beans with mushrooms and onion, steamed beet greens
0 -
Mihani - I am not sure if actually grilling vegetables is that healthy. I love the taste and can't wait to try a vegan pizza recipe in the grill. Did you get your food prepped? I understand about cooking "real" meals. Not in the mood for soups now that the heat has settled in. It is already in the 90's.
Long walk with Cleo today. There was a small snake in the bathroom in the park and I took a picture of it...left my favorite water bottle and didn't realize until 1.5 miles later so we had to walk back.
Pool hours changed from 0830-1030 which is my usual dog walking time and then I would go swimming. Guess I have to get up earlier to get it done.
I am not losing any weight with all this cardio. In fact I was up 2 lbs today. Don't understand as I have been eating so much better.

Actually it is meat that is extremely bad grilled. This is what I found:
Cooking meat for a long time also leads to formation of carcinogens, because you are exposing it for a longer time to smoke and flames. Try fish, which cooks significantly quicker than chicken or beef, or make skewered kebobs with cubes of meat, which will take less time to be done. You can still enjoy that grilled flavor you love and reduce your cancer risk by swapping meat for veggies, veggie burgers, or fruit, all safer choices because HCAs and PAHs form in muscle proteins. Bonus: phytochemicals found in fruits and veggies may actually reduce certain types of cancer.
Yay!0 -
Donna, what about cold soups like beet or gazpacho? This is my favorite time for spring fresh salads with a grain base like quinoa or barley or wheatberries. I used to like meat charred to bits on the grill. I really can't remember how long ago I went vegetarian, but I know it was quite a few years before I went vegan which was the beginning of 2012, so I don't really even remember what it tasted like.
Got some stuff prepped last night but ran out of steam and enthusiasm. Still need to make the bean dishes tonight. Last night I cleaned and prepped red leaf lettuce for salads, and saute/steamed the broccoli, asparagus, and some chard. Still have collards and kale which look good and can wait until Friday or Saturday to cook, and need to shred beets and carrots in the food processor for salads. I'll probably cut the greens off the beets and get those cooked tonight since they look a little wilty.
B - oatmeal with blueberries, chia seeds, cinnamon
L - big ol' salad with red leaf lettuce and baby spinach, peppers, tomato, bragg's/spicy mustard mix for dressing, couple wasa crackers
D - cheezy chickpeas, chard, asparagus, a pear and apple with a few walnuts for dessert
Loving the spring weather, but man my allergies/sinuses are killing me.
0 -
Mihani - I need to try a cold beet soup! I only in the last couple of years started loving beets.
It does take more effort to prepare and prep to eat healthy but very worth it. I need to really have a dedicated shopping day and a dedicated prep day. I should be more organized.
Brooks surprised me at 0800 this morning! His morning meetings were cancelled so he came home. We took the dogs for a nice walk and then hit the pool. Endorphins were circulating all afternoon.
I am had quite the discussion with my older sister about diet. She has never been accepting when I have told her I am trying to eat more vegetarian foods. She is so fixated on protein she can't talk about anything else...all about getting enough protein. So she was shocked that I actually dieted, lost weight and was able to do the Tri. I am so tired of defending myself that I sent here this:
https://medium.com/@marla_rose/meet-the-meat-defenders-52-types-of-reactionary-omnivores-8cd873e2ad37
hahaha I can be evil.
B - smoothie
L - salad
D - quinoa salad and polenta with basil pesto0 -
That is so cool you and Brooks have so much fun together Donna! I didn't read the whole link but read some of it. Bookmarked to read more later. Some of it was pretty funny.
Another long day. I am so glad I don't have to do laundry or cook or anything tonight. Have plenty of food already prepped and will have a light dinner and early bedtime.
B - oatmeal with blueberries, walnuts, chia seeds
L - big ol' salad with red leaf lettuce, leftover cheezy chickpeas and some of the cooked broccoli
D - more cheezy chickpeas with the rest of the chard, some asparagus, and cous cous
0 -
Funny link, Donna! It sounds like you had a lovely day with Brooks.
Looks like you are back to rocking the plan, Mihani. Even though I batched, I've still gone off track pretty much every day. I should follow your example!
Ruby is recovering from her surgery, but she is pretty miserable with a cone on her head and not able to do anything buy lay around. When they put the cone on at the animal hospital, she immediately took it off. They tried a few times but that was never going to work, so they ended up adding a soft collar device and advised us not to take it off at all, even when we're around to watch her, so that she forgets it can even come off. Poor puppers, but they are probably right. She has an appointment to get the staples out in 8 days, and then a few days after that it should be okay to remove the cone.
I did a long stint of weeding this morning and then sat down and stiffened right up. There's tons more to do so hopefully I will be feeling better tomorrow morning and I can get a bunch more done. I'm also going to try dyeing some fiber soon. I was going to do it this afternoon, but it is quite involved with math formulas and lots of supplies to gather so I don't think I'm going to have the time today.
0 -
Mihani - I hope you enjoy your evening.
Carla - I did not realize Ruby's surgery was happening. I have used those soft collars before and love them. Poor Ruby. I hope she heals quickly as well as you do from weeding. Be careful. My nephew who is very athletic bent down to pull a weed and pulled several back muscles and was down for a while.
I was down two lbs today of the 3 that I went up after the triathlon. I read that after an event sometimes the body retains fluid.
Made a lentil salad with almond milk, lemon, white bean and cashew dressing. Brooks & I love that dressing. Actually I made hummus first and then added almond milk, more lemon and cashews to the hummus dregs.
Evening bike ride. Yay.0 -
What's the recipe for the white bean cashew dressing Donna?
Carla, poor Ruby! Hope she heals quickly. Some dogs are fine and others turn into Houdini when it comes to those collars. I found the ones with velcro worked the best.
Got up about 4:30 so I can get an early start at the office. I have one project that is nearly done and must be finished today, plus two meetings this morning that I haven't even prepared docs for yet. Should be at the office by 6:30.
I got into some munchies last night... I was tired and should have gone to bed. Had a slice of toast with PB and some popcorn and a handful of raisins.
Planning a big ol' tofu scramble for dinner tonight. My favorite recipe: https://minimalistbaker.com/southwest-tofu-scramble/ just leave out the oil.
0 -
I started to make hummus and after I opened the beans I realized I was out of tahini but made it without. Then to the "dregs" at end of blender I added more squeezed lemon, almond milk and handful of cashews.
Swimming early then walk dogs. It is such a pain because this pool is only open 8:30 -10:00 now and It is such a good time to walk dogs as it is only 71*.
Down another lb.
B - banana & coffee (before swim)
L - lentil salad left over
D - roasted broccoli salad and sweet potato.0 -
I hope your early start is productive, Mihani! I'll add the recipe I use for my baked tofu below. I switch between this one and a garlicky baked one that is very similar, without the ginger and with a lot more garlic.
Grats on the weight loss Donna!!! 70 degrees is the sweet spot for me. That's when I'd want to walk the dogs, too!
The card-making session with my MIL went well. We had a nice time together and she was happy to come up with her own designs. I pulled all of the related supplies out of my craft room and moved them to the dining table where we worked. We could have used a 2nd table. We were constantly looking for whatever we'd set down and lost in the pile, especially as time went on. My time wasn't that productive since I was hosting and helping her find things, but I did get one card done, and a lot of tags that I can use for gifts and also for labeling
I have a busy few days coming up. I want to get a bunch more weeding done this morning and in the evening when it's cool, and get some yarn spun up into sample sized skeins so I can start trying my hand at dyeing. Tomorrow I have to batch as much as possible and then head out to a spinning guild meeting and fiber shopping event. We're having my parents over for Mother's Day and I have to finish my mom's wrap/shawl, clean, and make a lunch for them.
I will get a pic of the shawl before I gift it and post it here soon.
Sesame Ginger Baked Tofu - Whole Food Plant Based
(Clean Food Dirty Girl, Molly Patrick)
Ingredients
1 package organic extra firm tofu 14oz
Marinade
3 garlic cloves minced
2 teaspoons peeled and grated ginger 8g
2 tablespoons soy sauce 30ml
2 tablespoons rice vinegar 30ml
2 tablespoons water 30ml
2 teaspoons sesame seeds 10g
10 turns of cracked black pepper
Instructions
Rinse and press tofu.
Place all the marinade ingredients into a medium sized bowl and use a fork to combine.
Cut tofu into thin slabs. You can make them any size in length you want, just make sure they are at least 1/2 inch thick or so. This is also a good time to preheat your oven to 350° (175°C) if you aren't marinating overnight.
Put the tofu in the bowl with the marinade and stir gently.
Marinate anywhere from 10 minutes to overnight.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper so that the tofu doesn't stick to the baking sheet.Place each piece of tofu on the parchment paper in a single layer and bake for 20 minutes.
Flip the tofu over and bake for another 20 minutes. (I end up doing more like 25 minutes per side)
Allow to cool and dig in, or store in the fridge for up to a week.
Use it for sandwiches, top salads with it, add it to stir fry’s, add it to wraps, or just eat plain as a snack.

That tofu recipe sounds delicious. I was warned off 9 years ago for anything phytoestrogens but I wonder if it would be okay.
Post a pic of your cards! I would love to see them. Swam this morning and walked dogs in the heat. Not good. They will be quiet for rest of day.

Donna, nutritionfacts.org has a few videos on tofu and who should/shouldn't eat it, if you are interested. I forget who shouldn't, I just know that I can!
I'm not that excited about the one card I did make, but here's a photo of the woven shawl I made for my mom.

Hi, quick check in. Work work work, home and haven't done a darn thing yet as far as making dinner or anything else. Carla, LOVE the shawl!
I am going to eat some leftovers and head to bed not in the mood too cook at this point. Going to be working ALL weekend. We're swamped and boss is heading out of town so we only have until Tuesday to get things that are due finished. I am a bit stressed to say the least.

Ugh, Mihani! Time for YOU to head out of town!!!! Hope you are able to get lots done.0
