Yesterday, I vigorously hiked for 75 minutes in the desert. It’s 15 minutes from our condo to the trails. I took a photo of this beautiful succulent in someone’s front yard. I’m in Phoenix, Arizona in the desert Southwest of the USA.
This Sunday, I fly back to a Chicago winter.
I’m recovering from a recent misalignment with disc bulge in my lumbar vertebrae. The real cause of the injury is decades of desk work and computer posture.
I’m researching best back practices. I’m going to start a multiweek step by step back exercise program designed to improve the supporting muscles and soft tissues surrounding an aging spine. I’m encouraged that I don’t have anything (yet) that would indicate surgery or other dramatic intervention.
How’s your back?11 -

Back ... as with many people over 70, I have some spinal stenosis. 6 months ago, before I stared this weight loss/fitness program, I was really noticing it. The mornings, particularly, we're problematic with a lot of stiffness and pain.
Fast forward 6 months ... down nearly 50 pounds and significantly more fit, it is rare for me to wake up stiff and in pain in the mornings. Yet another reason to commit to this forever lifestyle chsnge!10 -
I deal with arthritis and fibromyalgia. I can already see a change in my knee and hopefully, that will only improve as I get the weight off. Have a great day, everyone, and I'll check back in tonight to log my daily stat.

By the very nature of our human BEING...we are all subject to physical limitations from time to time. I am fortunate to have experienced few incidences which have restrained my activity beyond a restricted level I could tolerate. My dear hubby, however, has had two surgical procedures...one for an L4/L5 intervention and the second on his neck for spinal stenosis. He is less fortunate than I in structural composition. I guess, in medical language, that would be "conformation."6

I fell off of life...my Aunt has been in the hospital since the 4th and it doesn't look good...but left me taking care of her everything and being a taxi for my mom everyday...it's been a little over whelming. I have stayed on track though for the most part...I have fallen behind on a few things. Good thing I have a conference call today or this might not have gotten up till tomorrow...lol

Join on the 10th. That probably violates the group charter.
I probably won't be posting all that much.
I just want to say this.
My odometer turned half a million today.
I got 500,000 feet of climb in the last 26 months or so.
That is a lot of Eiffels.
It is a lot of adventures and road mysteries.
Heh! I inspired a goofy little family to Fitbits for this past Christmas.
Ranger Rick (@rangerrickl) knows those guys as My Little Buddy's family.
I am a geezer. Actually, at 500,000 of climb, I am a world class geezer.
Don't know why I think that sort of stuff is fun.
Mebbe I better put a picture.
Heh! I am still getting PR's.
Best wishes to all of you guys that are nursing injuries.
I don't want to give bad advice but the only advice I can even think of is... keep moving.
Keep moving in the direction of fun.

Exercise? Yes, 15 minutes shoveling snow...and 25 minutes low impact aerobics with Gilad. Too cold outside today. Wind chill is 6F which is -14C. It's just plain cold. @RangerRickL You can be thankful you are in AZ.
Calories? Under by less than 100...BUT I have not logged exercise calories earned, so there is more in the bank I choose not to acknowledge.
Tracked? Yes2 -

Exersized?- yes
Caleries?-yes
Logged?-yes4 -
I did all three.
Exercise only managed 30 minute steady walk and 20 minute hiit.
However, reading about your back I did read an interesting article at improving health and well being as we age.
I fractured my back in an accident some years back. Exercise has definitely eased ongoing pain.
https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.telegraph.co.uk/health-fitness/body/midlife-health-checklist-maximise-wellbeing-40s-beyond/amp/
The article mentions LISS being better than hiit.
Anyone tried that.5 -
Completed my diary early and pre=logged my dinner so I don't go off plan. We have a dinner to go to, I made soup, and I'm only having the soup I made. Good day today. Made 30 minutes straight at my bike for the first time. So pumped!
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? 30 minutes on recumbent bike, 8.97 miles, 18 mph avg!! (February 1 goal already met!!)
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes.
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes.2 -

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes - 58 minutes in all (2 x 7 minutes HIIT plus 6090 steps jogging on the mini-trampoline .... notice how the order of importance has shifted ...
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes - pre-logged to pre-exercise limits, then burned 311 and left 101 "in the pot"
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes

Yes x 3!!! Woo! At least that's what pre-planned dinner says.
Was able to walk the dog today, it was slow but about 25 minutes. My pedometer says 4500 steps and 1.85miles for the entire day. It's way more than I've done for weeks. Sun was shining, it was about 65 degrees outside, and though short one of the best dog walks ever
Looking forward to the start of PT next week. I am already feeling a little "squishy" and just know I've gained a pound or two, lost some muscle. Cannot wait to bounce back!
As for backs...years ago before I started working out, mine was stiff and achy, particularly upper spine and neck. It didn't take that much weight loss to see a difference, I think the difference came with physical activity. Now it feels great!3 -

Guys, I'm seeing that some of you have gone through some back injuries. @KLD145 , there is hope! I also fractured my back (T12). That was back in 2006, and I went on to run countless half marathons, a few obstacle races (Tough Mudder, etc.), and four marathons. Exercise definitely helped my pain....
Of course, then all those marathons took their toll on my back, and I ruptured some discs and had to have surgery. That was in 2015, and I still haven't come back from that. I exercise pretty much every day, but haven't been able to run like I used to.... But, I feel like as long as I'm getting SOMETHING in, it's better than nothing, right?3 -
Exercise: Yes. Fitbit says 188 minutes today.
Calories: Yes!
Tracked: Yes!
Back: I have to say, it's much better now that I have dropped 60lbs, and have adopted a more active lifestyle. Long may it continue.2 -
January 10, 2019:
EXERCISE: Yes. 5 miles with a 3 mile tempo run (at 7:48/mile). The other two miles were warm-up/cool down at 10:00/mile. Total run was 43:25, I think...
CALORIES: Yes. 2020 target; 2687 consumed (166g protein) - 790 burned = 1896 net.
TRACKED: Yes, including four Hershey's Kisses at work.
And my posture is awful. Trying to work on that.4
