Week 6

I couldn't find a Week 6 topic. I apologize if there is one already out there.

So here goes, decided to tackle Week 6, Day 1 today. I did the early morning shift, so I had been up since 2 am and planned to run after my shift at 1230. But a thunderstorm put a monkey wrench in my plan. So I went home took a nap and woke up to a clear partly sunny day. I knew that was a sign, that this run was going to happen today. I was suppose to run 60 minutes non-stop. I admit that is intimidating, so I took an easy pace. Initially my goal was to finish, but as the run progressed, I decided to keep pushing. I hit 4.41 miles at the 60 minute mark and decided to go for 5. At 5, I still had a little left so I ran some more. I finished my run at 5.34 miles in 1:12:24. This does not include warm up and cool down walk. This is the longest and farthest I have ever run. I am still amazed. When I started C25K in March and then the idea of running for 30 minutes seemed like a longshot, Today I ran more than twice that long. I still have 2 more runs before I officially graduate the 5210K program. I'm thinking of pushing for a full 6.2 miles with the next one, just to get myself ready for my first 10K September 8th.

Yes it is and in such a short period of time. If this is what I can do now in a few short months, I'm just thinking what I will be capable of a year from now.

I'm officially a 5210K Graduate!!! I did the last run today. I took a slow pace because I wanted to make it the full 10K. I was feeling a bit discouraged when I hit the one hour mark and was only at 4.22 miles, but I was tired today. I kept pushing and I finished at 6.25 miles. It took me 1:28:55 to do it, but I did it. I can't believe i ran that long. I have 3 weeks until my 10K, so I have some time to pick up the pace a bit. So psyched right now.

That's a fantastic time Ceci and a massive achievement, you must be on a runner's high after doing that!

Do you feel the urge to tell random people? When I graduated C25K I know I did, if I finish 10k I'll probably hire a billboard lol

Ditto what Shannon said about inspiring the rest of us, so thank you all :)

    W6D1: 3 miles in 36:27 (avg 12:09)

    1:00 - 12:03
    2:00 - 12:17
    3:00 - 12:06

Was tired & not in the mood. One of those runs where I had to bully myself all the way through it. Last week my 3 mile run was on the treadmill, but two weeks ago it took me 36:47 (avg 12:16), so while today's run felt slow at the time, I feel like I'm on target for how I should have done.

Saturday, I rode my bicycle 27 miles, then went to the bike shop and bought a new bike.

Sunday should have been a run day, but I had to try the new bike, so I split it and rode the bike 6.8 mi then ran for 45 minutes.

That being said- I waited until this morning to do w6d2 and opted for the timed version so ran for 1 hour + wu and a long cd.

    Stats:
    Overall pace 11:35
    Distance 5.18mi

    Including wu/cd:
    Pace: 13:11
    Distance 6.2 mi
    Calories burned: 639

Good going on the bike ride! I don't think my backside could take 27miles in the saddle anymore lol

Great run too - fantastic pace :)

I once rode my bike for 25 miles. It wasn't my butt that was sore at the end, it was my hands. Hats off to you for that accomplishment, though!

    Great job on the 10k!

W6D2 (2 mile hills run) complete.

I headed out on a different route - straight out & back that is all mid-sized hills, including one hill from the 5K I'm running the end of September. I was only partway up the final hill (the one from the race) when the app told me I was at 1 mile, so I finished running up it before turning around.

    Distance: 2.23 miles
    Duration: 27:06
    Average Speed: 12:09 min mile
    1:00 - 12:36
    2:00 - 12:03
    2:23 - 10:37

That's a great pace especially going up hills.- I sometimes feel like I'm barely going forward on a steep hill :)

The only way I can get up steep hills is to look to the top, remind myself that I'm strong (sometimes out loud), and power up it. As soon as I start slowing down I feel like I've already lost the fight. Once I'm to the top I slow down until I have my breath back and then go back to my original pace.

Officially finished my 5 to 10k program this morning!

    Stats:
    Distance: 6.22 mi
    Time: 1:13:56
    Pace: 11:50

Including warm up and cool down:
    Distance: 7.23 mi
    Time: 1:35:42
    Pace 13:13
    Calories burned: 748

I ran around my block (a BUNCH of times!) this morning which is almost 1/2 mi. After I finished the run, I stopped by the house to get a drink and my dog insisted that I needed to take him for a walk. I used this as my cool down.

Have to figure out what I'm going to do now. I have found that I like being on a training schedule. I signed up for a 5k run in a couple of weeks and am looking for a 10k to do later this fall. My brother has suggested that I run a 1/2 marathon with him in April. Not sure if I'm ready for that training commitment.

I ride my bicycle usually 3 days a week with one of those days being a longer ride (at least 20 miles). I plan to run 3 days a week, with one of those being a longer run (at least 10k).

Happy graduation!!! An April half is totally do-able. But pick your next race and find a training plan to work toward it!

Congratulations Ceci, I'm jealous of your pace! I like having a training plan too, I'd probably slack off otherwise, there are plenty out there to pick from. Having a race to work towards will really help, good luck!

    Congratulations!

What sort of programme do you think you'll move to next? I love the discipline of having a plan, it keeps me moving when my lazy bones start telling my head I should stay in bed :)
