Week 6

it keeps me moving when my lazy bones start telling my head I should stay in bed
It was dark when I got up at 6 to do my run on Thursday, dark! That happened so quickly, it was light at 6 on Tuesday! I am not a morning person and know I am really going to struggle to get out of bed now, I might have to go back to running at night.0 -
Congratulations Ceci on finishing the 5 to 10k!
I've decided that I'm going to go on to one of the Hal Higden training programs when I finish. I really need a program that has long run(s) only on the weekends and shorter ones during the week.0 -
I have been using the RunDouble app so far. I bought the premium version ($4 I think) It includes several different options including a 12 week half marathon program, various fun runs and event training plans as well as the regular C25k and 5 to 10k. I'll keep using that, since I have it.
I may just do regular fun runs until time to get serious about my next race, whether it's a 10k or 1/2.
Edited to say: I really like having it tell me, "Start running now" or "slow to a brisk walk", etc.0 -
Well today I ran RunDoubles timed week 6 day 1. It's a straight run for 60 minutes. I did it without music as it was getting dark and I wanted to really be aware of everything around me. I think that because of no music I slowed down. The music seems to keep my pace up. So I ran for an hour and by the end I wasn't exhausted and ready to stop. I could easily have run quite a bit more. I didn't even particularly notice running up and down the hill. The whole run seemed easy.0

I know! Friday morning at 6am and I nearly fell over the dog going to the bathroom as the day before I didn't need to put the light on.
I don't mind the getting up as I've always got up early but the actually leaving the house to go running when it's dark is going to be interesting lol0 -

It's odd how sometimes it all comes together yet others it's like nothing goes right.
If I have to go on a footpath by a road I'll have my music so low you can't hear it over the traffic and after a little while I won't miss it but I'm still weirdly reluctant to leave the house without it - maybe it's my comfort blanket? lol0 -
When I run at night, I don't wear earplugs and I have taken to only wearing one in the day. Sometimes I can't hear the music, but its still a difference when it's not on at all0

Ran Week 6 Day 2 this morning, well I kindof ran it. I decided to incorporate Hal Higdon's 10k plan. His week 4 has a 2 mile run (which I did on Wednesday and ran at close to my maximum pace), a 3 mile run (well I ran just a bit over 3.5 miles on Friday night), and a 4 mile run. So I decided that I would run 4 miles today. I thought that I could do it in RunDouble's 60 minute run and 5 minute cool down. I would just do my real cool down after I ran the 4 miles. Well some things didn't work the way I thought they would as far as the electronics and what I could do on a sunny day with high humidity and with the temps rising, but Runtastic did do my run and did post it to MFP
So I did do RunDouble's Week 6 Day 2. I ran for 60 minutes
and I did Hal Higdon's week 4
So next week I will do Hal Higdon's week 5 (adapted) and run 2 miles, ? miles (whatever I can do in RunDouble's Week 6 Day 3 run of 60 minutes), and 4.5 miles.
Maybe I'll make a Daily run topic similar to the one in the C25K group since even I am confused on what week I should be posting in.0 -

I like the daily run topic idea - because that way I can see everybody else's posts in one spot too. I don't always remember to go look at the other weeks. And everybody is doing different programs anyway so it's not like everybody in week 6 is doing the same program.
Congrats on finishing what sounds like a very confusing run.0 -
Completed W6D3 of Hal Higdon novice program! My first 5 mile run!
I ran 5 miles in 1:02:28 with an average pace of 12:29. I'm super happy with that time.
For the most part it felt really good. There were a few minutes around the 1-1/2 mile mark where I started questioning whether I was going to make it, but I banished those thoughts from my head and kept going and sure enough it passed.
1.00 - 12:29
2:00 - 12:41
3:00 - 12:40
4:00 - 12:33
5:00 - 12:01
I tucked money in my pocket, plotted my route to end by a convenience store, and bought a Vitamin Water Zero to drink on my 15 minute walk back home. Yes the clerk gave me a funny look - I'm sure I was bright red & I was still breathing pretty hard since I hit 5 miles in their parking lot. I do about a 5 minute warm-up walk but find I like a longer walk home after the longer runs, so it worked out well.0 -

That's a great run! Five miles still seems a long way off for me.
I love that you run to a shop, we've no shops near the house - maybe 2miles to the nearest? So if I had a drink there I'd need a pee before I got home lol0 -

I am giving Hal Higdon's Half program a try. Since I recently finished RunDouble's 5210K, I am just starting Hal Higdon at week 5. Half is October 20th, so I am cutting it close.0 -

You have been training for weeks already so have built up alot of running miles, that will be in your favour.0 -
I'd call that a little aggressive, but it's worth it to try and see what you can do. Who knows? xtrout (who graduated C25k just before me) is doing marathons because he found out that every mile after the 4th was just easier for him.0
-
Yes it is aggressive. I am going to see how the next few weeks go. If I can keep with the training then I will register.0

I like that idea too, please do it!0 -
it is only the 4th time i actually run/walk 10 k since i started back running in july after a strain ankle in march. So i don't know exactly where i stand for in this program especially thati do run with a running club twice a week but we only do intervalls/fartlek (monday) and short continous distance (1600m-1200m-800m, 400m, 100m) on wednesday. soi guess it does help a lot for building endurance.
Today i am happy. I was able to run for 60 min almost without stopping.Well 52 min run+ 2 min break and then another 8min run. for around 7,5K. My total time for a10K was 1h22min. So it is really a good news for me. i think my ankle is well heal now.
i know week6 is 5min warm-up/60min run/5 min cool down. that ispretty much what i've done today. so i guess i have graduated this problem.
i have no 10k race plan yet. And winter is coming soon unfortunately . in Montreal today was chilly around 15Celcius (good weather for running!!!) So i think i will wait until spring 2014 to start think about 10K. In the mean time i will just keep running! ;-)0 -

hahaha same here! just don't know where to stand.
i can run 60 min but not yet able to fully run a 10K.
i like the idea of dai;y run topic too. just to keep us motivated to get through 10K.
how about week 7,8,9 .. and specified as"finished B210K, now what 's next?"0 -

GOOD job. this is a great average pace. i wish i had ipod/iphone to actually record that too.
i usually run then remember what i have run and in how long. then go on google maps and do the maths. so it is not something acurate just estimation.
the only thing i know for sure is from doors-to-doors i have a 10K path that i have mapped on google maps.0 -
Does anyone has used this website for calculating pace. i don't know how acurate it is but i find it helpful.

I guess the new topic Daily Check In Thread -- 10k+ version
will do the trick. as it is whatever was your workout that day. I actually like that.0
