Going in for surgery tomorrow morning. I'll try to post from my phone. I've never done that before, so we'll just have to see what happens. Otherwise, I should be able to post Friday or Saturday.

    Bye, bye!

@clepant - So sorry to hear about your baby. No matter how old they get, they are still our babies. It's been one of the harder things to do as an ER vet, to tell clients it's time to let their baby go. The risk for an old dog under anesthesia is high. A bloat dog is even higher. Add cancer to that and the chances of a successful surgery are very low. You did the right thing, even if it was the most difficult decision you will ever have to make with a pet. You will always second guess your decision. Maybe not the decision to put him down, but the questions of what could we have done to keep it from happening. The truth is, there is nothing you could have done. If he was doing well before the bloat, you were doing everything you could. Genetics and disease just caught up with him. You did an extremely hard but extremely noble thing to not make him suffer through a very low chance of survival. I don't envy your position in that. I do appreciate your care and love for him, making sure he didn't continue to suffer.

Hi dear friends. It has been a rough few days and I want to thank you for your kind words. Many of you have experienced loss of a dog or cat and you know how difficult it is to go through. I have had over a dozen dogs and it never gets any easier although sometimes I find the decision easier to make. This one was a hard one to make, but in my heart I did what was best.

I know that CountryCreek, V Huber, Dean, Janet and LoveMyAlex have all experienced losses not too long ago. I truly hurt for each of your losses.
Thank you LoveMyAlex for the beautiful poem. I have saved it and will add it to my memory book.

Dean, thank you for your reassuring words. It really helps confirm that I did what was right for my guy. The emergency vet was wonderful. He would have done whatever I wished but I appreciated him telling me straight up that it was not good and that if Finn were his dog, he would not put him through the surgery. We are so grateful for his honesty. I never heard Finn cry in pain, but I did driving him to the ER. I appreciate that the ER doc catherized him to temporarily relieve some of the air, and gave him pain meds to make him feel comfortable so that we got to spend some time with him and be with him to the end. I know that in time things will get better but he will always hold a piece of my heart.

Trying to get some exercise and will be back in the swing of things if it ever stops raining here. It has been terrible June weather here. Feels more like April.

2.8 miles running and walking. Was on my way to run outside the gym this morning, ran into one of my fellow Boot Campers on her way too, so we ran together. She's 14 years older than me and I had to keep up. She got me to run extra, including some hills. It was a lot of fun.

@clepant I am so very sorry for the loss of your fur baby. They become one of the family very quickly and it is the most heartbreaking decision you ever have to make and you are right, it never gets any easier. Finding the right time is difficult. You did the right thing and you had a very good vet to guide you. Thinking of you.
