June (2019)

WELCOME to all walkers!

Oh my, June is here already :o !! It seems unbelievable that we are almost halfway through the year. It is time to start a another new monthly challenge! Summer fun will be here B) which means there will be more opportunities for outdoor walking. Perhaps some of us might even discover new places to walk!

Having Leslie's, or other walking DVDs, to pop in the player continues to be a great alternative to walking outdoors. Because of the warmer weather walking or hiking outdoors might just be a pleasant alternative to the DVDs for those who enjoy getting their miles, minutes, or steps outdoors. Especially after the long winter or extra rain. However, for those of us who are possibly looking at triple digit temperatures starting this month, having the DVDs is truly a blessing during a drought or the heat waves coming our way.

This group is open to any and all walkers. The majority of us use Leslie Sansone Walk At Home DVD workouts, as well as those great walks or hikes outside on the trails or pathways that are available to us, or a walk in our neighborhood, and on the treadmill, as well as other Walking or exercise DVDs. Of course a walk on the beach would be awesome!

All of these many options count toward our miles, minutes, or steps.
However you get your walk in, come on in and join us! Post your miles, minutes, or steps that you have walked.

We are a happy, supportive group, and I promise that joining this month's walk challenge will motivate, challenge, as well as inspire you!

Set your personal goal for how many miles, minutes, or steps that you want to walk, indoors or out, this month :star:.

If you find this challenge in the middle of the month it doesn't matter which day of the month that you join in. Just set your goals to reflect how much that you want to walk, or even how you walk, for the remaining days in the month. You are always welcome :) !
So, if you are new to the group in the middle of this month, please feel free to start today so that by the end of the month you will be that much closer to your health goals. It is never too late to join in. Today is always a good day for a walk!

It is always encouraging to read which DVD, whether Leslie or another instructor, that you used. Or whatever form your walk took.

Of course it doesn't always have to be a walk :p . It is summer time! Many different exercise opportunities are right around the corner. Gardening or yard work, strength training, a game of tennis with a friend, hiking or swimming or even playing in a park or at a playground with our children or grandchildren, perhaps running errands or doing some heavy duty cleaning, it all counts as exercise. Post those times as well if you care to. We all could use some new ideas or inspiration. :p .

Let us get ready for walking the Monthly Walk Challenge together. I am truly grateful for each one of our walkers who continue to inspire and motivate one another mile by mile, and step by step, each and every month.

I know that we are all excited to see our long time faithful walking friends o:) join us for yet another amazing month together, and we are certainly always awaiting the opportunity to welcome newcomers to this month's Walk Challenge!

And now... let us lace up those walking shoes and get our water... and walk, walk, walk into June!

My goals for June are just beginning/mini goals.
1 mile walk at least 5 times a week, working up to 2 mile walks by the end of the month.
If I make my kids walk then I should as well. =)
I did have physical therapy on my right knee about a year ago, so with being careful I would like to strengthen those muscles in particular before I pursue anything of intensity. The forward kicks don't work on my right leg, so I just do a knee lift on that side. I am thankful that is program is so easy to modify.

I'm in for 95 miles tracked this month.
June 1st: Went for 1.5 miles walk on my paved trail and then it decided to rain/storm the rest of the day. We also lost power for 6 hours again.
June 2nd: Rest day or Self-care day.

I've noticed that after walking the concert trails the next day my ankle just hurts. It's goss darn annoying and is kind of leading me into not getting walks in daily. Thoughts anyone?

@deeder522 I borrowed a Jane Fonda workout from the library and she did some warm ups where she had you rotate your ankles clockwise 10 times and counterclockwise 10 times. I wonder if it might help if you do that before you start your walks? It's something simple I never thought to do before, but it does help loosen muscles and tendons.

Great job on the outside walks @texasgardnr!

I was lucky to have good energy and extra time today. Probably should've done more cleaning instead, but Leslie says its better to have a messy house and a healthy body!

Thanks, @VeggieGirlforLife! Got to love Leslie's often repeated "Its better to have a messy house and a healthy body!" quote. Good for you for putting it into actual practice πŸ€£πŸ˜…. You certainly made me laugh when I read that in your post πŸ˜ƒ.

@Deeder522, great trail walking! Only two weeks to go before you start leading walks. It seems like time just flew by since you first started to talk about that.
