Hello Team Slimsons and Welcome to August!!
My name is Ashley @AB0215 I will be your captain for this month.
Here's a little about me:
I am 33, and I have been overweight basically my entire life and in the last 2.5 years or so, I decided to change that, I have been working towards that goal for the past year. I'm down 100 lbs and I still have a way to go, but I will get there. Let's do this!
Please feel free to introduce yourselves and share your goals for the month, I'd actually like to encourage this as I know that for me it helps me to have some accountability and helps me reach my goals when I share them..and with that in mind, my goal this month is to lose 5 pounds. I've been training for an Olympic Style Weight lifting competition and that was late last year, did okay, now I have some things to work on before my next one!
I'd like to help us be as successful as possible and if I can help in any way, please let me know. Also, if you have any suggestions for the team or fun ideas to spice things up a bit, please feel free to share them, I look for new ways to help engagement and keep people motivated!!
I am committed to this group and to help where I can, and please let me know if I can help in any way!!
Side note--I follow a Ketogenic (now mostly Carnivore diet) for any that may be interested, I have tons of recipes and resources for anyone interested.
Welcome to May and let's make things happen this month together!!
Your Captain,
Ashley (@AB0215)1 -
Hi team. My name is Sharon @sherrilew.
I will be 55 next month. I started gaining weight after high school because I became less active. My highest weight was 299 at the end of last year. I decided that I did not want to turn 55 and be over 250 pounds. I missed a few steps, but I got back on track a few months ago. My birthday is 8/15 and I am shooting for 265. I know I can do this (especially with your encouragement).
Go team!!1 -
Hi, I’m Karen, I’ve been in this challenge before but kept falling off the wagon. Well now if I want to be around for a while I need to get this eating and weight under control. I found out I was born with hip displasia but it only started hurt about 6 months ago. I saw a specialist today for a cortisone shot to hopefully get this pain under control but this dr says they don’t work long enough to give them. He said the pain will get better if I lose weight. My family Dr did blood work last week and my results aren’t good, sugars and liver numbers are the highest they’ve ever been, and with a fatty liver and almost diabetic, and on 3 blood pressure pills. I really don’t have a choice anymore, I need to choose life over death.
Sorry this is so long, but I need to stick to this.
My goal for August is to lose 10lbs2 -
Hi, I’m Janet and I am excited to join this support group, led by Ashley who is leading us to success, 100 lbs is awesome.
After an earlier MFP success, I crept back to 279, not quite my high of 303. But enough to shoot my blood pressure soaring and require a trip to the ER after a tennis match. Fortunately it was dehydration and not a complete heat stroke. Since May I am down 25 pounds and yesterday I played singles tennis for the first time in a year.
My goal for August is to leave a few pounds behind for ever.
My August action goals are
1) at least 30 minutes of exercise everyday
2) at least 3 servings of vegetables every day (my ultimate goal is higher, but this has been my biggest struggle)
3) at least 4 servings of fruit every day (total for 3 & 4 >30 grams of fiber)
4) track food and exercise every day
5) visit this thread everyday to get and give support
Remember we are glorious now and we are here to become healthier versions of our glorious selves!1 -
ABOUT THE CHALLENGES & REQUIRED WEIGHT POSTINGS
We are also going to be running (Optional) Mini-challenges again this month: Question of the Week (assuming I can remember to do that or think of one) and Daily Posts
First and foremost is that participation in these challenges is optional. It's up to you as to whether you want to try this. If you don't want to participate in these challenges, you don't have to, the choice is yours, but I would like to encourage you to participate as it seems to help keep us on track and thinking about our goals on a daily basis and it's encouraging to see other's successes and struggles so that we realize that we are not alone!!
The Daily Posts Challenge is based on another challenge on MFP called UAC (Ultimate Accountability Challenge). The way UAC works is that the aim is to follow 5 basic rules.
#1. Track EVERYTHING you eat that has calories.
#2. Stay inside your allocated daily budget.
#3. Try to do at least 20 minutes of activity a day (anything: walk, run, cycle, swim, gardening, housework, yoga, gym, etc.. As long as it gets you active and off the couch)
#4. 1 pass day permitted per week (went over calories, could not track, not enough exercise, intentional pass)
#5. Check in daily (tracking yes/no, calories yes/no, exercise yes/no).
****End of the week. those who have managed to keep to plan for 6 out of 7 days are recognized in the thread as being part of the weekly "Winners Circle".
A side note as there has been a bit of confusion for new members in the past, this is not the same as the official results, which are weight based, this is just another tool to help you reach your weight loss goals.
**REMEMBER**
You set your own daily budget.
You choose you own exercise and intensity (no step limit, no exercises you cannot or should not do, 20 mins of gardening counts as much as a 10 mile run, activity is activity, anything that gets you up and moving!).
Is not weight based (as weight fluctuates day by day).
Can continue beyond weight loss.
Daily check in keeps you in touch with those doing similar. Longer term weight management is hard to do on your own.
It also has frequent resets (as in a circle each week).
It works on an honor system. Being honest with yourself and others is a key to making things work. Remember, this is a judgement free zone, everyone has good days and bad days, but the way to get to the finish line is by being honest and when we have a bad day, picking ourselves up and carrying on the next day!
Consistency and new habits have been shown the only long term successful way to change weight. We all want the progress made here to last a lifetime.
Your posts should look like this:
Daily Post (Sunday/Date)
Track: Yes/no
Calories: Yes/no (were you under)
Exercise: Yes/no (what type and how long)
Goals/Day/Comments: (Tell us a brief description about your how your day went or your goals for the day)
The Question of the Week Challenge is a fun participation booster and we will be using it sometimes just as fun and sometimes it can help to foster new ideas for others as we all are different and have different experiences so sharing ideas can help someone else with motivation of freshening up their routine even!! Keep on the lookout for these questions.
Please post your weight on your scheduled weigh in day, as if you miss weigh-ins, you may be eliminated from the challenge and we don't want to see that happen!!
Your posts should look like this:
Username:
Week: February Week 1
PW =(previous weight)
CW=(current weight)
Example:
AB0215
Aug Week 1
PW: 138.4
CW: 140.1
Please, please setup your posts in that format as it really makes it much easier for us to track your progress for the challenges and the weight loss!!
We'd like to help you be as successful as possible and if we can help in any way, please let us know. Also, if you have any suggestions for the team or fun ideas to spice things up a bit, please feel free to share them, we look for new ways to help engagement and keep people motivated!!
We are committed to this group and to help where we can, and please let us know if we can help in any way!!
Once again Welcome to August Challenge,
Your Captain Ashley (@AB0215)

Hi, I’m Rita. I’m a baby boomer and not getting any younger...yet! Age is just a number after all. It’s how we live that determines our true age. I like to think of myself as healthy in most ways even though I am teetering on being morbidly obese which is definitely not the definition of health!!! I’m active when I want to be without any trouble but I know that won’t last forever. In fact, I was able to walk 8-10 miles a couple of days a few weeks ago in hilly Rome in 95 degree weather without keeling over. The only thing that stops me is me and I’m working on figuring that part out. It’s time! I need to actively work to stay strong and make healthy choices. My weakness lies in eating too much and many of the wrong foods. I know all the right things to do because I’ve spent a lifetime trying to lose weight starting around the age of 16 when I was a shapely 110 pounds. I think too much and do too little. This week I will work to turn that around. Good luck to all and let’s get this thing going🤩. Thanks to our captain(s) for getting us started🙂2

Hi! Welcome everyone! I have been on the team slimsons since I 🤔 March! Awesome supportive group! Please feel free to add me as a friend!2

Hello Team Slimsons,
🏋️♂️🤼♂️🤸♀️WELCOME TO OUR AUGUST CHALLENGE! 🤼♀️🤸♂️🏋️♀️🏋️♀️
My name is Gloria @gjaholy33, once again I will be your Co-captain which means motivating and keeping track of your weight.
I am 40 years old, By God's grace I turned over my issues of my weight and He has instructed me to the Liver Reduction Eating Plan in March month in preparation of the baraitric surgery as long as I continue to have success and my doctors are please with my progress. My goal is to STILL weigh between 380-399 by October 23rd so no surgery. SO FAR I'VE KEPT 66LBS OFF SINCE MARCH 20, 2019
A little more about my history: I have always been obese since the age of 8 weighing 176lbs. Even with parents and doctors putting me on various diets as I child.
Just to encourage those who are struggling with staying on track; I have been trying to get healthy since 2010 and it's a constant struggle but I've learn to set short attainable goals in order to succeed. I didn't seriously try to get healthy until I was 22 weighing 576lbs and was successful losing over 225lbs weighing my lowest as an adult 323lbs. Recently I've been disable due to a work injury in 2015 and need to lose weight in order to get better as I am severely obese at 535lbs in August 2018.
My next goal is get rid of my sleep apnea CPAP machine.
In the past there were a lot of days which the pain was unbearable along with additional health issues which makes it hard for me, since the end of March I have been under new pain management regimen and working with my Physical Therapist, Connie, so things are getting better slowly but surely. Since I am determine to lose 200lbs I know I have to Stay positive and look forward and not back at what I did yesterday.
I am currently STRUGGLING JUST TO MAINTAIN FROM DAY TO DAY on my weightloss journey. So I have been doing a lot of praying and meditating in order to remain positive which is my key to being successful at my goals.
I always set goals for myself and this month my goal is to lose 10lbs! UNFORTUNATELY I DID NOT SUCCEED FOR THE MONTH OF JULY. ALTHOUGH I'M STILL taking advantage of my free bowling summer pass by going bowling once a week.
Looking forward to August Challenge!
REMEMBER WE GOT THIS!
Your Co-captain,
Glorious Gloria @gjaholy33😃👏🏾👌🏾👍🏾💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
P.S. you can add me as a friend to get a look at my new recipes or for any extra encouraging words or inspiration.1 -

Hi everyone this is month 2 for me with this awesome team!! My name is Stefanie and I’m 38 old years old with a 2-year old and a 5-year old, both girls. I’ve been married to my husband for 13 years come December (been together for a total of 18 years). I have always been the “big” girl. When I graduated I weighed 165lbs but was in awesome shape. I went off to college and didn’t gain weigh until my sophomore year when I gained the sophomore 30 quickly. I have struggled with my weight ever since. I have run numerous 5ks, 3 10ks and 2 3/4 half marathons.....I had to DNF due to an injury at mile 9.56. My next half marathon is weekend before Thanksgiving. My hopes for this month since half marathon training has will start is losing 10lbs.0

Hi Team! My name is Amy. I started with Team Slimsons in March and have lost 40 pounds so far. My weight loss has really started to slow but I am still in a downward trend. As I get closer to my goal weight some anxiety has started to build knowing that soon I will be starting the maintenance part of my journey. Maintenance has always been my down fall over the years. This time is going to be different, it has to be if I am going to be successful. Tracking and weighing will be a part of my life that I have accepted.
This month:
*Continue tracking everyday.
*Exercise daily
*Increase water intake
*Post daily on thread

Weigh in week: July Week 5
Weigh in day: Sunday
Previous Week's weight: 163.2
Todays Weight: 166
I am so disappointed in myself. I just get so annoyed that if I don't watch one meal I have a problem. My husband was excited about making salmon pasta sauce for me. I had it for lunch yesterday. My calories are in range, my steps were good BUT this number makes me MAD!
I was not sure if there is a week 5 or if this is the first weigh-in for August.
@Kin59vara It's August0 -

Hi Team.
Im Cheryl, Im 34 (nearly 35) and a stay at home mom to a nearly three year old girl called Alana.
I joined myfitnesspal today (I have used it previously but the wheels fell of my wagon and rolled away).
I am 238.8lb, which is the heaviest I've ever been, EVER!!
According to the NHS, to be a healthy weight, I need to lose about 7 stone which is about 40% of my body weight.
I need to do something because my physical and mental health are beginning to suffer.
Im looking for friends who actively post and comment.

Comments: ugh, I have been so ill over the last few days...haven't tracked until today but have been doing OK in the sense that I doubt I've been over any of those days, but that is also not great bc I've been too sick to eat much which isn't the healthiest. Still not up to snuff today but am coping and wanted to check in 👍 hope you're all well!0 -

Hi. My name is Betty. Next April I will hit the half-century mark and don't want to be this heavy when I do it. I have had issues with my weight all my life. I've lost hundreds of pounds over the years, only to gain them back, plus. In fact , back in 2012-2014, I lost over 100#, felt wonderful, looked great, and had so much confidence. Well here I am, back over the 300 mark. I can lose weigjt, I can't keep it off. I go back to my old habits. Overall, I'm healthy and active, just heavy. My goal is to take it off and keep it off.
I weigh -in on Wednesdays. I will also track food, calories, exercise, and daily check in. Wishing positive thoughts to all.1 -
