Started to post in October and realized it is November. Already!
Continuing my thoughts from my last post. I also got Chef AJ's book Secrets to Ultimate Weight Loss on my kindle. I seem to be on a reading kick lately and after a short break into mindless entertainment reading I'm back to more health and life type books. I just started reading this evening and so far like it. I've followed Chef AJ for a while but never read her books.
This week is ALL about making sure the workouts or some walking or some treadmill time get done every day. I may let myself off the hook a couple days if I do a lot of housework, but I want at least 5 days of dedicated exercise in the coming weeks.
What do you all have as goals for November?
y'all

Today's Plan:
black coffee
oatmeal (need to milk some almonds...before work!)
carrot/apple juice (not forgetting to bring along, today, forgot yesterday)
avocado sammy-avocado, onion, tomato, sprouts (not toasting bread today...yikes, it was too hard. LOL. But man, did it work out perfectly. I had a little sistema container to store all the components, separately. Delish!
roasted VEGGIES...another selection I am not forgetting to bring, today!
really good, Honey Crisp apple
DESSERT: LULU LOVE TIME...have I mentioned how much I love this little goofball. She is so silly. Still so much a puppy! Especially, in the morning, when she wakes up. I need to video tape it. Talk about waking up with a grateful, joyous heart! She has totally nailed it!
Have a delicious day, everyone!
Thanks for starting us off in@Mihani . Love the name.

Your meals sound great Magic! I feel the same way about dogs. Even after a bad day my boy can make me laugh when I get home.
Had a headache for a couple days and it hit me last night like a full-blown migraine. I have spent most of the past 18 hours in bed sleeping on and off. I feel pretty good now, just still a bit achy in my brain. I hope it will be completely gone by tomorrow because I have a ton of work to do.
I ordered a Panda Planner which should be here Monday. I'm excited to give it a try. I've read about them before but never took the plunge.
Set up my oatmeal packs and salads for the week. Made a cashew caesar dressing. I also have veggies chopped and ready to go for a big ol' stir-fry. I will probably go ahead and make that tonight so it's ready to eat over the next couple days.

I am sorry to have been quiet for the last few days. I had crunch time and Halloween and a sick kiddo, and just got a bit overwhelmed. So I checked in to see how you were doing, would get partway through sending an update, get interrupted, and then never get it sent. So resetting today!
Thanks for starting us off on November, @Mihani ! I was tickled that you gave Atomic Habits a try. Maybe something in there will support all your work on meals and workouts!
@magic71755 - I just love how much you love Lulu! And your menu today sounds delish, as usual.
@LizLovesVeggies - I have a recipe you recommended on my list for this week -- the "mind-blowing roasted potatoes." I am hoping to wow the teenager with that one!
I am having a good ETL day:
B-green smoothie (spinach, broccoli, blueberries, cashew milk), almond butter, goji berries, coffee, plus a cup of Four Sigmatics Mushroom Elixir (Natural Grocer had little one-cup packets, so I thought I'd give a couple of the unsweetened ones a try)
L-garbanzo beans; microwaved mushrooms; steamed squash; bowl of butternut and turnip with cinnamon
S-apple slices and walnuts
D(plan)-big salad, plant-based dressing, steamed squash; maybe some acorn squash and turnips
My November Goal is to get ready to rank up at December exam, or at least be up for the test. Oh, my. This means some real concentrated effort over the next 4 weeks. I need to:
-Stick with my ETL diet daily (been doing well with that)
-Attend martial arts classes 3 times a week
-Get back in the swing of resistance training sessions at gym (had totally fallen down on this)
-Daily Kicks practice
-Vocabulary drills0 -
Good luck with your training, Austin. Sounds like you have a good plan!
I'm heading to the office today. Hair appointment late afternoon then to visit a friend. Plan for today...
B - oatmeal (I filled up 6 containers and put in the freezer with chopped kale, frozen mixed berries, chia seeds, turmeric, black pepper, cinnamon, a couple walnut halves, oats)
L - 6 cup container of salad (this week's veggies are red and green leaf, chopped kale, radish, carrot, sweet pepper, banana pepper, zucchini) and I add beans, pickled onions and tomatoes before I leave for work
D - leftover brown rice and stir-fry of broccoli, bean sprouts, kale, bok choy, savoy cabbage, snow peas
I need to stop at the store and get some mushrooms.
Finished Chef AJ's book and it was worth the read. Her plan requires eating a pound of cooked and/or raw non-starchy veggies first every day, before you have any fruit or starches. I am never sure on any of these plans when they talk about a pound of cooked veggies do they mean before or after cooking? Anyway I plan to give it a try. I think frozen veggies will probably be the easiest way to do this. I can eat those quickly in the morning then take my oatmeal to eat when I get to work.

Hey there! The Chef AJ book sounds great! And your prepped meals for the week sound amazing!
(Also - I am looking forward to hearing about how the Panda Planner works out. You have sent me off to look at planners...)
In case confirmation gives you warm fuzzies -- my morning smoothie generally contains a pound or close to it of raw veggies (I use frozen and blend them without cooking, usually half greens and half cruciferous) plus some blueberries for a little sweetness, but not a lot (3-4 ounces). That evolved over time, and I am interested to see Chef AJ recommending it! From Dr Fuhrman, my big daily salad includes a pound of assorted raw greens and raw veggies, and my steamed greens meal is a pound of greens just before cooking (my grocery store sells raw frozen greens in 1 lb bags -- super handy).
And you have reminded me that I need to get a hair cut! Wonder if I can fit that in today.
Note about yesterday -- the 2 Four Sigmatic "instant coffee plus mushroom extract" packets were interesting, but I will likely not try them again. Pricey, and they made my stomach feel odd. Your mileage will of course vary. But if you are feeling an impulse to try them, you might get single/sample packets, as the full packages are pricey and might not agree with you!
Food plan for today:
B-green smoothie (spinach, broccoli, blueberries, cashew milk), almond butter, goji berries, coffee
L-garbanzo beans; microwaved mushrooms; steamed squash with raw tomatoes and raw onions; bowl of steamed butternut and turnip with cinnamon
S-apple slices and walnuts
D-big raw salad with homemade dressing (more raw veggies!); steamed squash; bowl of steamed butternut and turnip with cinnamon0 -
At work...today's plan:
black coffee
oatmeal
green juice
avocado sammy with sprouts, onions and tomatoes on Dave's Killer thin 60 cal
carrot orange juice
honey crisp apple
dinner at home: roasted veggies over bed of TJs organic herb salad with a drizzle of lemon/tahini dressing
LULU LOVE for dessert
Have a delicious day everyone!

Sounds good Magic! How are your new work hours working out for you?
Austin, Chef AJ is actually anti-smoothie. She is all about volume eating. I go through stages with green smoothies where I'll have them for a while then go off them for quite a while. Mostly because I don't like dealing with the blender in the morning when I'm trying to get out the door. My smoothies are always really simple though. Generally just water, 1/2 cup berries, a drop of vanilla, some chia seeds and then as much greens as I can pack in the blender. I often eat leftover steamed veggies for breakfast though, so I don't think getting into the habit of eating veggies for breakfast every day will be difficult. I will wait until I use up this batch of oatmeal packs before I start that.
I didn't make it to the grocery. Still have a lingering headache and just wanted to get home after 6 hours of office and then my hair appointment.
Today's meals same as yesterday and will be the same until I run out of stir-fry for dinner then I'll probably make a soup for the rest of the week.
Going off coffee again starting tomorrow. I think it is contributing to my recent headaches.

GBOMBS... check
Exercise... check
Still work to do tonight but going to try really hard to make diet and exercise a priority no matter how crazy my day gets.2 -
Good morning, all!
I have a busy day today! Got up early and worked on exercise in the form of martial arts, which is a win. I should do more, but it's a start! I am hoping to get a walk in later today, too.
Mihani -- so sorry that headaches have been an ongoing issue. Good luck with the no-coffee initiative! Hurray to making diet and exercise a priority!
Sticking with my meal plan is of course top of the list:
B-green smoothie (collards, broccoli, blueberries, cashew milk); almond butter; golden berries; coffee
L-garbanzo beans; microwaved mushrooms; steamed squash with raw tomatoes and raw onions; bowl of steamed butternut and turnip with chopped apples + cinnamon
S-apple slices and walnuts
D-big raw salad (kale, romaine, tomato, bell pepper) with roasted beets and homemade dressing (cucumber, green onions, avocado, nooch); steamed squash; bowl of steamed butternut and turnip with chopped apples + cinnamon0 -
Today's Plan:
black coffee
carrot/apple juice - small
oatmeal...raw oats, homemade almond milk, flaxmeal, cinnamon, raisins, frozen organic wild blueberries
roasted veggies over TJs organic herb salad
LARGE Joe's Mean Green
steamed broccoli & cauliflower with Plant Based Melissa's WFPB cheese sauce with a side of air fried tofu
dessert of LULU LOVE and chai
Have a delicious day everyone!
No new hours, @Mihani That is my 2020 plan...September 23, 2020 to be exact. I will have been at this job (receptionist Cadillac Dealership) five years. Just knocking off 7 hours.
I believe I am the type of person that must work...the work keeps me healthy, focused...it keeps bookends up, so to speak, in my day to day life/schedule. Too much free time on my hands is not something I have ever done well with. Anyway, just 323 days to go. (I have a countdown calendar on my phone. LOL)1 -
-
Good morning, all!
I made progress on my martial arts homework yesterday, and got to the gym this morning for weight lifting, so wins there. I did very little work on my office. Hmm. I'll go block out at least 20 minutes for that today, so I can at least take a little ground. If I clear out a lot of room, I can have a treadmill at my desk, which would maybe be cool.
I did stick to my ETL food plan, and am on track for a good day today.
@magic71755 - Your menu looks SO delicious! And your 323 day countdown calendar amazes me! You really DO like focus! I wondered as I registered that, if your being focused got more pronounced after your cancer scare? I know I think I should be more focused.
I am working on my Thanksgiving menu this week, as we are hosting. I am making vegan dishes for me (but enough to share, for the adventuresome), some standards, and a couple of new things.
My ETL dishes will likely include Apple Cranberry Relish, Creamy Pumpkin Dressing to go on a big salad, maybe a vegetable side (roasted carrots?), and a bowl of Butternut Squash plus fruit (blueberries & cranberries) and spices. That seems fine and festive.0 -
Hello! I am home early today because I had a dentist appointment. I brought some work home to do, but first my salad because I didn't take time for lunch given I was leaving early. This will be lunch/dinner and I may have a little cooked veggies or fruit later if I get hungry again.
Treadmill later. Definitely.
Magic, I'll have to look for the jackfruit crab cakes at TJ's. I have a couple cans of jackfruit that have been sitting in the pantry for months and I should try to do something with them. You always seem to find such interesting things.
Austin, your Thanksgiving plans sound deeeelicious! Congrats on accomplishing so much the past couple days. I love the Panda Planner... just takes about 5 minutes morning and evening to fill it out and it seems to be helping me focus on goals at work and with health.
I haven't been posting my meals this week because they really aren't changing much day to day. I did pick up collards at the store so I will make a batch of my white bean and collards stew tomorrow evening. I also got quite a few bags of steamable frozen veggies so I can try out the VFB plan starting tomorrow.
Have a great evening all.

Morning ladies...
@AustinRuadhain ...no...not more pronounced since Cancer...but just that I do need to still work...(for me mentally and financially) ...so working on letting one day go (my shortest 7 hours) means more time to spend with Lulu and to just enjoy life, outside of work.
@Mihani I did not have the jack fruit cakes...they are in the frozen section...in a green box, I believe...let me go check...yup, green kinds think box.
Today's Plan:
black coffee
homemade carrot/apple juice
oatmeal with the usual suspects
roasted veggies with a side salad of dark leafy greens and homemade tahini/lemon dressing
snack of Mary's Gone Crackers & Chipotle Bitchin Sauce and tea
More salad and Wacky Crispy Hash Browns with Primal Kitchen ketchup
I saw Jane Esselstyn make these:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMYLYTBpl0k
Lulu Love for dessert. Have yourselves a very delicious day, everyone!0 -
What is everyone making for their main vegan dish for TG?
This is one from Hot for Food...looks great but not sure I can manage it. I am not the greatest cook.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SNEly05Nmg&t=208s
I was thinking maybe Lasagna...easy to prepare and transport to my sister's. I am at a loss of what to take. Right now, Sprouts has a bunch of items by Cedarlane for TG...but that would be the really easy way out. I want to make a great main dish...but need a foolproof recipe that checks all the boxes. They all will be having the regular TG...so mine has to be contained in its own space and heated in its own container. Ugh.

Hey Magic,
Lasagna sounds like a great idea!
Some other ideas:
- A roasted stuffed pumpkin could be fun! I may be biased, as I really love pumpkin.
- Stuffed acorn squash could also work. Acorn squash is smaller than pumpkin, so easier to manage.
- Shepherd's Pie (this Chickpea Sweet Potato Pie looks nice, as does this or even this quick one). Shepherd's Pie is nice since it means you don't have to do pastry.
- Vegan meatloaf of some kind, with gravy
- A roasted cauliflower (like this) could be more turkey-like on the plate.

@AustinRuadhain ...thanks ever so for all the great ideas. I did buy all the ingredients to make the lentil/mushroom mix. That seems the most difficult part and it really isn't all that hard. You can make everything in advance and put it together on the day of TG and bake it. I am going to try once to see if I can swing it. But I will keep all your suggestions close by.0

Happy Thursday! I haven't thought too much about Thanksgiving dinner. My family always has some things for me and I will come up with something to make and share. End of year is always super busy for me at work, even worse than tax time really. With the new gal in the office I'm hoping to get to enjoy more of the holidays and take some time off this year though.
I have done great this week, big huge salads for lunch every day. I haven't been eating much else just some oatmeal in the mornings and some cooked veggies and fruit at night. My recent bout of snackiness seems to have passed so that's good. Nothing non-ETL all week.
2 -
Heading to the office today and tomorrow. I want to do some major catching up this weekend so we're heading into next week with a good handle on what needs to be done. At least I can put a lot aside for the new gal to work on. It's so nice to have backup!
I decided I'm putting the laptop away upstairs in a closet after the weekend. I waste too much time playing around on the internet after work and that time could be much better used cooking, cleaning, working, exercising. I think a few weeks in a closet will break that habit. By the time I check a few news sites, facebook, this group, maybe browse some recipes (that I'll never end up making) it is so easy to lose an hour or even more. I don't use my phone for social media or internet so I have that going for me. I hate using the phone for anything other than phone and text.
Plus it will force me upstairs to my office computer to check in here, and I'll be more likely to get some exercise and get started on work earlier in the evenings.1 -
Hey @Mihani - I hope you are having a great week with your ETL plan and with cooking, cleaning, working, and exercising!
@magic71755 - I hope you and Lulu are doing well this week!
My ETL day:
B-green smoothie (blueberry, cauliflower, broccoli, ginger, cinnamon, turmeric), goji berries, almond butter
L-turnip greens and diced turnips; steamed summer squash with diced cherry tomatoes, raw onions and spices; steamed mushrooms and garbanzo beans; diced steamed butternut squash, raw apple
S-apple slices, almond butter
D-huge salad (kale, romaine, roma tomato, red bell pepper); raw veggie dressing (cucumber, cilantro, spices); steamed summer squash with diced cherry tomatoes; apple slices
I made up a pot of Mexican Pinto Beans, so I have those as an option tomorrow.
I have also had a reasonably productive day, including a trip to the dentist (mostly good news!) and a stop at the health food store to pick up what I think is the right kind of B-12 (methylcobalalmin).
I have a copy of Thrive by Brendan Brazier on its way to me. I thought it might be time to read something new in the realm of plant-based nutrition. Also a copy of Change Your Schedule, Change Your Life.
I have been busy trying to do some catch-up work, and am trying to do more. But first, I am going to go do some platform stepping to get in my exercise. The arctic blast hit here, and I have not bought any winter pants in this new smaller size. My husband and I went for a walk last night in some sleet, and turned back after 15 minutes. Brrr!0 -
Hi all... hope it has been a good ETL kind of week for everyone.
I like Brendan Brazier, Austin... let me know what you think of his book. I finished Atomic Habits and enjoyed that. It made a lot of sense. I am trying to put some of the strategies in action here and there. Hoping next week will be a bit less crazed at work and I can focus more on personal life. I take a B12 most days. I forget sometimes, but I did start keeping the bottle right by my keyboard at work so it has been easier to remember that way.
I seem to be struggling quite a bit this week with cravings for the salty snackies like pretzels and blue corn chips. I have given in a few times. My sleep is off and that always results in being more hungry when I'm tired. Going to bed super early tonight.
How you doing Magic?
0 -
Oh my gosh, I have not been around in so long. I apologize. I knew I was not posting, but I did not realize it was 10 days. But, I'm back. And I hope everyone is ok!
I had a couple of days...well almost a week of a knee situation going on...too boring to give details ... but things are looking up.
I really have to watch gluten ...which is in my favorite Dave's Killer Bread ... and sadly no more Gardein Ultimate Beefless Burgers...way too much gluten and other stuff in there as well.
I am trying out juices from a place called Mad Greens...price is not crazy bad...and for now, I need something to get me back to being really healthy, knee wise...it's close to work and easy to stop by and they do deliver...so that is a plus. I will still make juice at home...just not as much...so this juice place kinda will supplement my own juices.
My goal has always been to work on getting the inflammation down...and right now, I feel better than I have felt in a whole week.
Also, today, a big ol salad with loads of good stuff...spinach, kale, tofu, carrots, quinoa, edamame, ginger dressing.
That's it. All is good with my Lulu. The weather is perfect here in my area of AZ. Hope you are all doing well.

Hi Magic, glad to see you! I was worried about you. Happy to hear that you are feeling better this week.
I was really struggling last week with the snack monster. Stressed and tired a lot and wanted crackers and pretzels and things, but I got it under control after a few days and back on track eating healthy and feeling good. I have made it a non-negotiable in bed no later than 9:30 and that certain helps since I get up at 5 a.m. Sometimes it is hard to do if I am grooving on work, but no sense staying up later to get work done then being tired and not as efficient at the office next day.
Speaking of work, I should go get some done! The end of the year is always really stressful and busy.

Just a beautiful day in the neighborhood...we are supposed to get rain...oh glorious days. Since we get so little, it is always just heaven-sent when it arrives. Actually, three days of it, starting late this afternoon. Very exciting stuff around these parts!
My plan looks especially exciting today... a fresh attitude about the foods I can enjoy.
black coffee
toast
oatmeal*- raw with loads of stuff in it with a fresh batch of almond milk
carrot/apple juice with fresh ginger
HUGE salad at Mad Greens
steamed veggies featuring sweet potato
Hope your day is going to be as delicious as mine. Later, mates!

When I say fresh attitude about what I can have, I was speaking about having to give up Dave's Killer Bread (which I love) and Gardein's Ultimate Beefless Burgers. Way too much gluten in there that wreak havoc in my joints. Gotta give those two up! It's ok...my knees will definitely thank me!1

Snack monster is just that...just arrives out of the blue and likes to cause destruction. One thing that is keeping me away from said monster...Ezekiel Raisin bread...toasted...I do use a bit of Miyokos butter...but you don't have to. It's just so crunchy and good and good for you. For some reason, Ezekiel brand bread does not mess with my knees like regular bread...maybe because they are sprouted. Just not sure. But for now, Ezekiel is my go-to.

Good morning ETL friends!
Magic, I am so glad to hear from you and so glad you are feeling better! That fresh attitude about the foods that suit you sounds very rational -- impressive, since it's not always easy to be rational and careful about food.
You have me thinking now about the whole plant-based journey. Figuring out that I can be happy 😊 with something in life that is not my first choice has been a journey. I know my taste buds/reptile brain would be happy if I ate foods that make me unhealthy 😈 and it's an ongoing practice to make smarter, healthier choices. Blah blah blah, going on here. My idea was to say something that had you know you have company and sympathy.
Mihani, your bedtime discipline is inspiring! I have been working on that, too. I was in bed by 10 last night -- great for me.
Off to get more work done!!0 -
Hello! I have been really busy with work this week but today I was definitely out of sorts so I decided not to work tonight and just chilled. I'm going to bed shortly to read for a bit and get to sleep early.
I have had a great week of ETL. Lots and lots of veggies and salads, no junky stuff. Gotta stay in the groove.
I thought about something tonight while I was water sauteeing some cauliflower. My range is always clean just needs a quick wipe down after cooking. None of that sticky grime that I used to get years ago when I cooked a lot with oil in my stir-fry or tofu, etc. Pretty cool.1 -
Gooooooooooooooooooooooood Morning fellow ETLrs!
Loads of rain the past two days...expecting a bit more today...so so wonderful. My neighborhood is just gorgeous with the winter, green grass bursting with color.
Menu is looking pretty much the same ... when I find something I love, I just keep repeating it, til the next best thing comes along.
Black Coffee
cinnamon raisin toast with a touch of Miyoko's "Butter"
fresh carrot-apple juice
oatmeal with the usual
cuties
veggie fried rice and extra steamed cauliflower, broccoli, green beans and summer squash
chai, peanut butter and apple and LOADS OF LULU LOVE for dessert
Wishing all of you a very delicious day!
Hope your sorts are back being "sorted" @Mihani ... not fun when things are a bit amiss.
My food choices @AustinRuadhain are a lot better...have completely given up Gardein burgers and Dave's Killer bread. Knees are much better...still cannot overdo, which I have a tendency to do when I am feeling good. I need to pace myself. This weekend is 100% better than last.
