Firstly thank you so much to @RangerRickL for setting this up!
First timer here - just discovered the community section. I lost 58kg/128lbs almost a decade ago aaaaand almost eight years later I was back up and more to a sprinkle over 350lbs.
I'm casually back down to ~275lbs after two years of not trying very hard to do very much - which was an interesting discovery a couple of weeks ago. I figured if I put some effort in, I may be back to where I was, preferably prior to turning 40! Yes I have just given myself three and a half years, it's a low benchmark it's true.
Good luck everyone!9 -
Hi, I’m a 41 yo 5ft 8 - mom and wife. I love fitness and run 20-30 miles a week, but have found since 40 I have this really stubborn 5-7 pounds that I can’t get off. I love to cook, eat relatively healthy but I think that I’m going to have to really cut back on portions and wine. My goal this year is to be back to 140. I’m at 149 now. I feel like I just need to be consistent with tracking.11

First timer! Had app for quite some time but have only just discovered the groups. Looking forward to being accountable and creating good habits.5

Hello and welcome new and old. A veteran UACer here (my first challenge was in 2016!). I first joined to lose baby weight and after another baby 6 months ago am trying to lose baby weight yet again. I know from past experience that the UAC can get me there. Looking forward to January and a new decade! May 2020 be healthy and happy for us all!6

Hi All! Was in this specific group in the past for a couple of months last year. Never made it to the Winner's Circle, but I still learned a lot. Exercising is not my issue as much as sticking to my calorie allotment. I plan to do this group for one month and hopefully make it to the Winner's Circle this time.

I everyone, I'm back for my second round and think I'll be making the Winner's Circle in December. I even lost a few lbs between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I've been here at MFP since September of 2013 and lost 45 lbs the first year and another 15 over the next two years. I was part of this group in the past and it really helped me stay focused.
I've had a rough 2019 with injuries and fighting vertigo 3 times...............uggghhh but I'm determined to stay fit. At 69 I really need to work hard at it.........LOL
I'm basically in maintenance mode but do fluctuate up and down 5 to 10 lbs. I was on the higher side of maintenance until I joined here and now I'm back to the lower end of where I feel comfortable.
I enjoy lifting weights, walking with my dog Penny Lane, hiking and swimming in the summer. Right now I'm going to PT for my right hip, hoping to prevent replacement so that's been a challenge but I think I'm ready to start walking again!
Good luck to all of you!5 -
Hey y'all,
My name is Tanya and I'm a newbie here. I used to play sports and I'm trying to get my sports body back. As well as, take care of my health.5 -
New to the group. Trying to lose 40+ pound after gaining it all due to medications I was taking. Can’t wait for the accountability!8

Good morning! I'm new to this challenge, although not new to MFP. I like this challenge because it focuses on habits, not results. And that matches well with what I'm focusing on right now.
My name is Jessica. I'm 41. I work a desk job from home. My goal is to increase my heart health through healthy eating, daily exercise, and long term weight loss and keeping it off!
Looking forward to the journey!10 -
Welcome to all the newcomers! It's so great to see so many people dedicating themselves to better habits and health.
I'm Kai and I've been with UAC since July and have made it into the Winner's Circle for every month except December. I found myself getting a bit off track with calories and tracking during my diet break this month. However, I'm now ready to refocus and work toward getting to my ulitmate goal weight.11 -
Hi all! I'm trying out UAC after learning about it last year in a different group (The Biggest Loser). I started MFP last April at a high of 212.2 and managed to hang on around the low-160s well into 2019. Over the last 6 months, and especially in the past 4 months, I've been battling self-destructive habits - eating too much and the wrong things, and not exercising, all because I know it's bad for me, not even because I'm enjoying it.
So, today I'm at 180.4. Over the last week plus, I've been adding back the positive behaviors that helped me in 2018, including beginning to pre-tracking my food, which I started yesterday.
I've also realized that for me, being in control of my weight is related to being in control of the other aspects of my life, including my home and work. I've made a list of small tasks to accomplish while I'm holiday break, and each day I make progress on them. It's kind of like encircling and attacking my self-destructive behaviors on multiple fronts, rather than leaving a space where they can slip through and regroup and regain strength.
Anyway, I'm Les, 41, mom of 2 little dudes, wife of one big dude. Nice to meet you all!8 -
Hi everyone. I'm a newbie here and am looking forward to that little push I need to get me where I want to be. I'm 3-5 pounds away from my goal weight. Added strength training a month ago and am already seeing a difference.
I'm Demian, 46 yrs old, mom of 2 teenagers, very happily married, addicted to pickleball.
5'4" tall, current weight 133 lbs.
Thanks for setting this up!3 -
Hi - I've been on MFP off and on for a couple years (some more successful than others!) - I'm back on a roll toward getting/keeping healthy. First time challenge joiner (long time lurker) Hoping this will help me stay accountable. Looking forward to the challenge. Happy New Year and good luck to all - thanks Brian4

Hello Everyone,
My name is Sal and I live in Minnesota. Thanks for your future support and encouragement!
My goal is a new lifestyle of more exercise, less processed foods, and mindful eating choices (e.g., awareness of amount & where I eat).
Scales set me up for mind games. So instead, I’m using a tape measure to check my height/waist ratio, plus using a full length mirror.
Right now I feel like aliens took over my body and am currently sporting a sugar belly.
Any tips on sugar detox?3 -
back again after a few months awal. looking forward to kicking my *kitten* back into shape5

Over the last five years, life has turned upside down and my weight settles right back where it was 5’ 10” and 290 lbs.
It’s a terrible feeling due to physical pain exacerbated by weight, and the shame and embarrassment of failing.
However, I know for certain that it CAN be done, because I’ve done it before!
Hopefully this group can help you establish the habits to both re-lose the 100+ lbs and keep it off FOREVER.
The key to keeping weight off is establishing a routine and food preferences that YOU can live with FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.
Part of this is de-programming the "bad habits" and "emotional eating/inactivity" safety net that a lot crawl back into when times are tough. You will need to find a way to be kind to you and treat yourself well that does not involve food.
Look forward to watching your journey with this group. We at UAC will support you as much as we can (and that you will let us).7 -
New me.. new you in 2020! HappY New Year everyone!3

Hello,
Really looking forward to being here and being accountable each and every day as it is exactly what i need.
I've been blessed my entire life when it came to weight, fitness and motivation to keep things in check - that is until life decided to gain up on me from all directions.
Although I'm used to high stress work positions, juggling life as a mother and professional it was a complete surprise when things began to rapidly change with my weight due to a combination of my age, a very bad relationship, and some major life situations (I will be making a post on my own personal page).
Things just came on so quick that I wasn't in a position to recognize that my weight was spinning out of control or to even be able to address it.
I have a habit of getting into 1-way motivation and not making connections that are beneficial on both sides (this is probably the social worker in me).
So I'm looking forward to making some online connections!

Hey all!
I'm back for my 4th month with the UAC.
I started counting calories and exercising regularly in September after moving to a new province, and to a building with a gym I have two little kids and my motivation is setting a good example and living healthy habits for them. I kept 30 lbs on after having them, so I'm working on losing that weight. So far in the 3 months I've lived in my new home I've lost 17lbs.
I've been in the UAC since October and it has been so helpful, I have never been this active and committed to daily exercise before. Good luck to all and congrats on committing to a healthier you!5 -
Hi all, I’m Kris. I’m new to this group but not new to MFP. I’ve lost 65lbs since July 2019 but looking to be more consistent in my physical activity. I’ve been exercising 3-4 days a week but would like to get in some time every day, even if it’s a 20 minute walk with the dogs.7

Hi Everyone!
I’m Eva and from Chicago. This is my third time in as many months. I’m glad it’s a new decade, since the last decade was pretty rough for a number of reasons (a health issue in 2010 that came out of nowhere and lead to almost 10 years filled with health, relationship, and work stress). I finally feel like I can come back up for air and take some steps towards taking better care of myself. My weight has been up and down and up again during that time. I currently have about 15 pounds to shed to be back in my comfort zone (and my wardrobe). Realizing that the weight will likely only come off with patient focus on healthy habits. Also realizing that healthy habits and expectations are likely more important than the weight. My goals for this month are pretty aligned with this challenge, 30 min daily exercise, stay within 1500 calories while eating mostly healthy. I’ll also try to not be a quitter this time, even if I fall off the train again. Thanks to @RangerRickL for continuing to organize this challenge and everyone for being here and giving it their best!4 -
I'm totally new to MFP and I was searching around and found this challenge.
I want to lose 20 lbs for my wedding in May! I'm planning on doing a Mung Bean Soup detox and then later the blood sugar solution 10 day detox. I'm also planning in exercising a minimum of 30 minutes a day.
One thing I'm curious of is why doesn't the challenges page on the app show the challenges?1 -

@lisajanel71. UAC should appear on the challenges group. However maybe no longer on the first page. Once the month has started, all posts are to the group here instead of the "advertising" thread in the challenges group.
A lot of ill-thought out challenges run in the challenges group and they tend to drown out more organised and long running challenges (that tend to have their own group pages).
UAC creates a new group for posts each month.
About ill-thought out challenges. They tend to fall into a number of categories:- Lose x lbs in x weeks (twice as easy for someone at 320 lbs to lose 10 lbs, than for someone at 160 lbs).
- Run, jog, swim, plank, push-up, etc... (they generally encourage people to push too hard for current ability and risk injury)
- Cut out sugars, do keto, do low carb, no alcohol, diet restrictions, etc... (these are attempting temporary one-size fits all fixes to long term problems. If you want long term change, you must make long term changes otherwise you return to where you were when you started)
There is so much mis-information about how to control weight that those who actually achieve long term results (for free) and are trying to give away real information (for free) are drowned out by fads, sponsored/subsidised government authorities, get rich quick hustlers and the multi-billion dollar weight loss industry.2 -
@lisajanel71
There is a challenge section of the forum that craigo3154 discussed above.
There is also a challenge link in the pulldown menu. That one is specifically for sponsored challenges posted by MFP (Under Armor). They are essentially contests that require that one eat a certain food or do exercises to win possible prizes. I believe the vast majority of those are US only so those in other countries (like craigo) wouldn't see them.
Hope that clears things up!2 -
Hi Everyone,
I have been an MFP member (on and off) over the past year. My goal is to establish better exercise habits and I think this challenge will be a help. I still am not sure where I check in but I will figure it out.3 -
Hello,
I just joined and I am looking to lose 100 lb long term but, realistically, short term, I need to at least lose 30 -50. I definitely need tips on how to make better choices on my diet because I always seem to go over even when I feel like I am eating healthier. I am excited to be part of this challenge. Thanks.5 -
Hi I’ve just joined and will sign in for Jan 4 later 👍4

Hi everyone,
I've been a member since August of last year but left midday through December due to holidays and travel. I'm now back! Surprisingly I only gained 1.5 pounds even after a week at home and a week in Tobago on vacation. Although at home I ate a lot and didn't exercise that much, in Tobago I did a lot of walking, did two scuba dives a day for three mornings, and did a 3-hour mountain bike tour one afternoon, so I think the activity mitigated some of the effects of all the beach-side beers I drank I came back late on the 3rd but didn't exercise and went over on calories on the 4th so am already at 4 pass days. But for me what's important is that I'm back, logging again, and part of this UAC community. I'm within 10 lb of maintenance and am excited to continue to hone these good habits with the support of everyone!5 -
@cjane917 Welcome back!1
