I think it is a very good idea, especially being able to refer to someone who has struggled. Lots of people go quiet and then disappear as they think it is just them and it really isn't.

Ah! And I see @TheMrWobbly is totally on top of some of the focus on struggle, the same place I was going!

Hi everyone, Kathy from Slimpossibles here. I think some sort of profile is a great idea. I don't know if I'd personally do it, I don't tend to put myself as the center of attention even though I talk a lot in our group! I do like the idea of posting struggles, even if it's not a feature and more of a weekly topic as I feel everyone can relate to struggles such as eating out, issues with motivation/dedication, working out, and so on. I'll think more on this today.

This is great. Just the kind of discussion that is needed!

You are all so right - the struggles are always there, and it is while we are NOT on top of them that we need the most support. A good conversation always comes out of what happens when you don't just give up, and you are right in the midst of it figuring things out. But we also need ideas from someone who has made it through some struggles, so that is where it gets tricky. I think the choices will have to have a great mix. I certainly do not want to present only the great success stories. There 's a whole thread of success stories elsewhere on MFP.

I still like the idea of presenting the person rather than the specific topic or struggle, though. What is great about those intros at the beginning of the month is how the approaches even to describing what is happening are really varied. If we go with the "profile" approach, the purpose is to provoke conversation, and the hope is that various topics or issues will rise out of the conversation.

I see how it can turn into something where the person being profiled feels like they have to be some kind of guru with answers, though, and that isn't good. But I have seen how the topic-oriented "challenges" can fall flat.

More thinking required! keep on posting ideas and we'll get somewhere!

I like the idea of the profiles. I know I for one love to read people’s success stories. They are highly motivating because you can often see something of yourself in them and it is encouraging. But I also agree that the struggles should be included. So many of us face the same struggles and it’s all part of the journey. Knowing the struggles of others along the way are similar to your own struggles can keep you motivated. And we all know this whole thing is about never giving up. Thank you to the moderators for this great idea.

I LOVE the personal stories...struggles and success...because we ALL have ups and downs...I would also like to see how their feelings about both nutrition and fitness change as they see greater success...how does it change their routines...but I love this idea...

I think it is a great idea. I agree struggles as well as success need to be highlighted. Overcoming the struggles are a big part of the journey and in turn make you successful.

Hi all, Maria from the Slimpossibles, one of the Motivators. I really like the idea, and agree that a short list of questions is good. I personally get a lot from F2F and it is all centered around what people share about their journey and life. I love to read of how folks have succeeded and what it looks like from that side and what they're doing now. This gives me a peek into what I might be able to expect because....gah....they actually still have struggles and things aren't perfect and a lot is the same as the losing game. I also get a lot from those in the throes of current struggles. I enjoy our community of like minded people offering insight and support in a non-judgmental way. Struggling is a part of it - if it weren't, we wouldn't have the great, groaning beast of a diet industry waiting on every corner with a golden sign. We *must* make mistakes in order to succeed and knowing that everyone is in the same boat is extremely helpful. In short (probably too late for that) - every success story has a lot of struggle in the foundation and structure of the solid home of maintenance; no one got to maintenance with it. No matter where someone is in the journey, from the newbie to the old-hand-at-it, I learn from them and enjoy what they are willing to share.

So - I think it would be great to see profiles from people at all stages and all of it will come with discussion on obstacles and overcoming them.

Hi! It is Pam from team Weight No More. Sorry I am late to the convo. :# I like the idea of the F2F profiles. I have learned so much from my team mates that I am totally on a different path than I was for most of my life. It would be interesting learning about members on other teams. I also think it would make F2F team members feel more like part of a big team as well as our little teams. I agree that it should include successes and struggles.

I also want to thank Liselyn, Beka, Lisa and Teresa for not only picking up the pieces and keeping this challenge going, but making it fresh by bringing new ideas in. Thank you ladies for all you do. xoxo

Had one additional thought today...perhaps add a few open ended questions where the person sharing their profile can talk about what changes they've made as they've progressed down the road a bit...someone else suggested mistakes they've corrected...what about new exercises they've been able to add AFTER making some progress and taking pressure off their joints/frame...what about tips they'd share with newbies...sometimes suggestions and ideas can be just as inspiring as success stories...

Just having a thought or two...

I'm getting back to work on the profile idea and should have something revised for tomorrow. Thanks for the great suggestions - and more are still welcome!

Someone drag @mulecanter @boehle @broncobuddee and anyone else who might be able to add wisdom, humour, or rants to the conversation!

@jugar Please remove BingeBattles from the TrimStones chart. I've been trying to reach her for three weeks now...no postings, no IMs, no response in chatroom and two missed weigh ins...thanks! Jessica

@jugar something is still weird with our WA step spreadsheet. I don’t think the formula is adding all the totals for the week to get a cumulative total. It doesn’t add up.

It looks OK to me - where is the problem?

If you add the week totals for everyone, the column doesn’t add up at the grand total.

AH - got it. When the new rows were added, they weren't included in the totals. Fixed now!

    Hi gang!

Just to let you know what's up over the next few days:

This is the final week of January! February runs as follows:
    • week 1: Feb 2-8
    • week 2: Feb 9-15
    • week 3: Feb 16-22
    • week 4: Feb 23-29
Spreadsheets for February will be shared tomorrow after the tallies are done. Anyone currently on the support team lists who has not appeared or weighed in, will be dropped. People on maintenance or illness, etc. will remain on the support team. Check up that everything looks OK through the week.

We will open the February chat threads some time around Wednesday or Thursday. New people who are signing up will come into the last week of January to get to know everyone, so you won't have to bounce between two chat threads for too long.

Any problems? Let us know here

    Happy Sunday!
The tallies are done, and I have put all the no-shows and other delinquents into the drop list. Please check with anyone still on your support team to see if they'll be back, and let me know.

New people will be assigned soon!

Please share the links to the recruitment threads, add them to your own networks, and see if we can even up the teams again. We have 20 on the smallest teams and 34 on the biggest, so let's see if we can all end up somewhere closer.

Encourage your team members to bring in friends, family, you name it. Thanks!

Hi! LonniJay weighed in today. Do we put her back into the mix or on support until February? She had a rough few weeks and was unable to weigh in.

Up to you - but good to hear from her! We could count her weigh-in as week 3, and if she wants to weigh-in for week 4 it might encourage her. If she'd rather wait for Feb. that's fine too. Let me know and I'll move her then.

No rush!! As long as it is fairly clear for the beginning of Feb (next Sunday) we're fine.
